Jeep4life Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Ok ive been looking for sometime now and couldnt decide if the MJs were every factory bulit as a dually :???: .....ive seen some but didnt know if someone had just done it at home in the garage. And were they ever made in crew cabs? :dunno:
DirtyComanche Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 A dealership did dually conversions, from new, I think. There's a couple pictures floating around here. No crew cabs... But there might be one or two made out of Cherokees by now, people were talking about it, then I fell out of the loop, that was a while ago :dunno:
johnny quest Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 like Dirty said, no crewcabs or extended cabs; just the regular cab that we all have. id love to know more about the duallys, like if the drivetrain was any different, if the axles were swapped out for something a bit more heavy duty, and so on and so forth. or if it was just some fiberglass bedsides and some wheel spacers... so much want...
DirtyComanche Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Apparently somebody looked at one of the dually trucks. It was a metric ton with wheel spacers/adapters, and dually fenders from some other type of truck, IIRC.
shelbyluvv Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Rich is working on one right now. http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=30377
Drahcir495 Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Rich is working on one right now. http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=30377 Thanks Shelby  - They are just fiberglass dually fenders and adapter/spacer as Dirty stated. Got mine from Custom and Commercial in California.
Jeep4life Posted March 27, 2012 Author Posted March 27, 2012 I always thought they were really cool looking.
MCF90 Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 I just saw a Comanche based motorhome for sale that had the duals on the rear. Can't recall where I saw it though. Matt

HOrnbrod Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Yep, that's the one I was thinking of. That must be a real joy to drive in a heavy crosswind with a sloppy steering gear box.
HOrnbrod Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 ok, so is it for sale?? Err, there's a telephone number there in the pic. Give them a call and find out.
yellaheep Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Damn, I wish that craigs ad was still up.......... I'd love to get more info on this truck. It appears that the "Spirit" motorhomes were an Itasca motorhome product and they made lots of these using Toyota platforms. I sent off an e-mail to Itasca (which falls under the Winnebago company apparently) hoping to get some info about how many of these were made and what years. I'd assume these to have been made during '91 and '92......... :dunno:
HOrnbrod Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 I'd assume these to have been made during '91 and '92......... :dunno: That MJ is an older model as it has a pre-1990 three-piece chrome grill, so maybe they were made earlier?

xjrev10 Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 I must say I have finally decided what my ideal MJ is. Talked to neohic yesterday about it and he agreed its something probably everyone has thought about. I'm a little slow to the game. LWB MJ 2wd Dana 60 rear with duals Cummins 4BT NV4500 Frame stiffeners 16-18 foot Custom made aluminum gooseneck to haul your trail rig!
dlee Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Here's a current build on jeepforum of a crew cab. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f53/2000 ... n-1327006/

Pete M Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 And 4wd. that too. I once got stuck on slimy gravel on the side of the road because the tow rig I was borrowing didn't have 4wd.

And 4wd. Nah. You would have to have a lift to clear the front diff with the 4bt oil pan because the engine itself is tall. Brakes? Yeah, good controller, four wheel discs, and a manual trans. I think it could work. Pipe dream! Ha just noticed I put "XJ" in the original post. Or just in the quoted posts? :hmm: nevermind, I hate April 1.
