Automan2164
Please? In the ever long quest to own every weird factory Comanche part, we have found one of the holy grails. The Hidden Winch. A member here found the truck for sale on the internets, and Neohic noticed the front bumper looked a bit... Odd. So he called on it. And it is one. Guy said that it doesn't work, and that he would sell it off the truck. Ben informed me of this, and said he would keep in contact with the guy to keep him from jacking up the price when I come a calling about the same thing. The problem is that I am 7 hours away from it at the moment, with no sign of being able to get out there. 'Tis where I throw myself on the mercy of the MJ court. Is there anyone near Saginaw who would be interested in at least getting it for me? Its on the truck still, in non-working order. The guy said that if we want it, to come get it, take it off, and put on a stock bumper. I need someone go there, take the hidden winch/all associated parts, and put on a stock bumper/brackets. I would also include the money he wants for everything (of course), and whatever you might want in exchange for a parts(replacement bumper/brackets) and labor. The guy has Sundays off, and Ben has already told him that a friend of his would be the one coming to get it, rather than himself. Once its in a member's hands, then I will worry about how to get it to me. Anyone interested? Rob L.
500 MJ
:D I know lots of people in Michigan! If you can't find anyone within a week or so, let me know and I will see what I can do for ya.
dasbulliwagen
You need to get ahold of Pete M.... hes in the area, but I'm not sure he would let you have it after he gets his hands on it.
dfreeman616
that's still a couple hours from me, too. but if nothing else comes of it, i may see what i can do.
Automan2164
Pete said he'd be willing to do it if no one else is available, but I'd like that to be a last resort kinda option. His van is a bit shaky at best, and he mentioned something about his tensioner being a bit weird... I'd hate to send him up that way and have the van crap out. He's still a few hours away from Saginaw. Plus, if I had Pete go get it, I'd never see it again. I'll give it another day or two to see if there is anyone closer that catches this thread, then I might have to take one of you generous fellas up on your offers. Rob L. :D
SW86
it'd be interesting to see how they did that. i just hope some sleeze doesnt jew out the Comanche Club for himself!
Automan2164
it'd be interesting to see how they did that... It was pretty simple really. I've seen the install manuals, and a member here has a set of brackets NIB. Its just a set of plates that go where the bumper mounts are, it shifts the bumper out a couple inches, and allows you to strap on a 6,000 Lb Ramsey winch between there. Then they just cut a slot in the stock bumper, and bolt on a hawse fairlead. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/attachme ... page_2.jpg i just hope some sleeze doesnt jew out the Comanche Club for himself! Me too. I can say I was a little apprehensive about posting this, but I know all you guys are a good group, and I am sure whomever helps out will be fine with my cash and my new baby. maddzz1
This is probably a once in a lifetime find. Someone help rob out. I would if i were closer.
knever3
Ok, I'll bite. I live in Midland, work in Hemlock, but Saginaw is within 15 miles of me. The problem is that I'm in the middle of working a 16 day stretch of more than 12 hours a day. I would be willing to look at it if it can work into my schedule. I would rather take the truck to my house and work on it then work outside in the cold for something I would have no use for. I don't have an old bumper to put on it, but I may be able to find one nearby. They would be easy to attain but the time is my crutch at the moment. If the seller is willing to let me "borrow it" for a couple days I could probably work something out. Now, If there was say a set of black bucket seats and a matching center console worked into the deal I would be in like Flin!! I could pay YOU for that kind of deal!! After my stretch of days is over maybe we can meet half way to trade.
Automan2164
Now, If there was say a set of black bucket seats and a matching center console worked into the deal I would be in like Flin!! I could pay YOU for that kind of deal!! After my stretch of days is over maybe we can meet half way to trade. I catch you eyeballing my black interior? Nah, I want the winch, but not that bad. :D I drove hundreds of miles and spent hundreds of dollars to get that stuff. Anyone who wants the black interior better bring a gun and a prybar to get it out of my cold clammy hands. But I am that way with most of my rare MJ parts. The long and shortbed rollbar's are another example of that. I almost lost a nut (literally) to get the longbed rollbar. However, I might be willing to work something out monetarily, and you should have a reply to your PM shortly. Also, I am finding out that the real "trick" to this hidden winch is the winch itself. Unlike most winches, which pull with a shear load (from the side), these are made to straight pull being mounted with the base parallel to the front crossmember. Other guys who built the kit themselves found out that mounting a standard side pull winch in the hidden winch fashion leads to an untimely demise. Interesting. Automan2164
Does anyone who tossed their name into the hat have or could get a factory bumper and brackets easily? Seems to be a sticking point that one goes back on. Rob L.
terrawombat
If you manage to get a hold of the bumper, brackets, and winch and would be so kind as to dimension them and send them my way, I could more than likely reproduce them for the rest of us :D
Automan2164
I would be happy to, I just am at the mercy of this guy, and whomever I find to help. Rob L. :(

Pete M
Plus, if I had Pete go get it, I'd never see it again. ha ha. :D I'm still up for it. power steering is for wusses. :rotf: and I do have a couple of straight/rustfree bumpers if I can get them off the trucks. Automan2164
Well Pete, I think i'll take you up on your offer. As long as I'm not putting you out that is. I'll call you tonight, we can work something out. Rob
somnus
did you get this yet? I may be able to help, I could lend a hand if needed. I am in lansing, not to far, but have not pulled a front bumper before.
SubSonic
Shoulda read MI, before reading further. That's an AWESOME find however, and I wish you luck... if it was Saggin' Bawls err Saginaw, TX... I'd have it done for ya tonight... I got a supplier that has new, in box, painted front bumpers (repro of course) for $45. But MI is just a little too far... :D

Dirteatr717
If I was closer you could have my dent free front bumper and then I'm sure that'd help with the whole reproduction phase because I'd like one :D goodluck with this Rob!
Automan2164
All in the hands of Pete and Ben now... I am only a watcher too. Ben has done all the talking to the guy, and Pete is accomplishing the rescue. I'm just here for moral support and funding. Rob :D

87Warrior
Rob, in light of this thread and recent thoughts about the actual use of my build, I have begun modeling a hidden winch design for my truck. Finding any good information about the set up is nearly impossible since most threads online date back to 2004. I have my ideas how it should look/mount, but I am basing the design off of a few pictures floating around and various winch bumper mounts. Any high quality pictures of all sides (with tape measure in the pic) would be much appreciated.
