Great story! Thanks to Mike for keeping the MJ in the family and thanks to Jim for making the 5 hour round trip to get it!

And a special thanks to Colorado for not hauling the thing away :)

Now - on with the pics!

I found this absolutely hilarious - crossposted from to the OP's thread about taking this truck to Sacremento: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=23706

Save yourself the misery of worrying about it. Give me the truck and I'll pay for the bus ticket to Sacramento. If you feel comfortable enough to be driving it as a DD then Follow the advice given above. Check everything and don't push it. It's a Jeep. It'll make it.

Somebody owes someone a bus ticket...

Well, glad someone picked it up!

One of the NAXJA guys showed up (fortunately it was only about a half hour drive for him) after you had already taken it I guess :dunno:

I seem to recall suggesting bringing lots of spare parts.. don't think I mentioned an engine though :( I'm actually doing a ~750 mile round trip to NACFest at Rausch Creek this weekend in mine, been planning on bringing a spare engine/tranny/transfer case/everything else since I don't trust my current engine at all.

The story.

I wanted to go get it the minute I saw the post. However I felt near Denver, a couple million people, 3 hour trip, surely somebody would get it. I fretted over it all day Mon and spent a sleepless night . Tue morn I said 'OK, I'm going. Gf pointed out all the roadblocks, distance, time, somebody beat me to it, the state got it, etc, Finally said to heck with it. I'm going. At that point the GF became supportive and said OK. Lei's go. I was going on the assumption I had 72 hours, not 48. Also that Mike had broke down on MOn. Not Sun, so I was counting on 2 days that I didn't have. Loaded 4 tires, couple sodas, the dolly and away we went. All the way I'm berating myself, It's gone, nobody will want it. It's still there. It's gone. Nobody wants it. It's still there. Did 80-85 from Pueblo to Denver. Did 65 to dead stops and wait, bumper to bumper traffic from Denver to Genessee. Missed it until I was pass it. Next exit, cross over, back to exit and back to MJ. Was kinda surprised to find it wasn't stripped. Didn't need the tires. Cab was open but Ign was locked. Searched cab and under hood hoping Mike had left key somewhere. He hadn't. Under truck, remove shift rod, move tran shift lever to N.. Couldn't do anything about the front wheels cocked and locked at a angle. Dropped the dolley, drug MJ back far enough to get in front of it. Moved dolley in front of MJ and guessed the angle necessary to place it so it would load centered with the cocked whells. Got it loaded, Hooked the Dodge back up to the dolley, checked everything again and away we went. A tow truck pulled into the area as we pulled out. Don't know if he was after the MJ or something else. There was the orange tag on the tail gate latch. The 48 hour deadline was 11:20AM on the 15th. I pulled up behind it at 6:30PM of the 15th. Back to Pueblo but at a more liesurly pace. Must of been something going on at the REdRock arena. Had a half hour delay there for traffic. 20 minute break at Pinion truck stop for coffee and blueberry pie, arr back home at 10:30PM.

Time:6 hours

Mileage:310 miles

cost:$51.90 for gas, $10 coffee an pie.

Benefits: 1 MJ saved from crusher.

Was it worth it?: Yes

Would I do it again? Yes.

Side note. I have a 4.0l engine from a '88XJ with 30K miles on it. Guess where that motors going. Jim

That body looks to be in exceptionally good condition. Also, judging by Mike's previous post, there are lots of good, new parts on there :)

Thanks again Mike for giving us all the heads up on this MJ! And thanks Jim for going to get it - we can all rest easy that it's in the best of hands now.

Edit: Is there a sunroof on that truck?

What's wrong with the motor, anyways? Puke a rod out the side of the block, or something else?

If it'd been me... I probably would have rented a uhaul and a dolly and just towed the darn thing the rest of the way, then picked up a motor myself and put it in. But I've got a few screws loose concerning MJs, and for that matter, most jeeps
