I was a loyal blackberry owner through two 7105s (bulletproof, if I could get one with modern tech specs memory/processor speed wise I would) and then had an 8820 wreck the mood for me. Worst phone I ever had, crashed and rebooted at random and took 5 minutes to boot back up. I now own a tmobile G1 (htc dream) and couldn't be happier.

You took their new part and returned your used part. That is stealing. You're just making up excuses. Meaning of word "return": (transitive) To give something back to its original holder or owner. What you did was "exchange" and it was not an equal exchange either.

np231 fluid level how do you fill it....
kastein replied to 90eliminator's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
always remove the fill plug first. Why? It sucks having to fill it through the drain plug when you pull that one first only to find out the fill plug is seized! Just fill it till it starts coming back out, wait for it to stop, then put the plug back in. -
maybe gettin a new to me manche...revised w pics

that motor is a turd, but if it's nice and clean and rust free I'd buy it and toss a 3.4 V6 in it. -
that's known as stealing and you shouldn't do it.

hahaha, seriously? Those nails are neat and useful, I can't believe they stopped you for that. What the hell did they think it was? Were they worried you were gonna stab someone with it?

Speedometer Doesn't Work
kastein replied to FireFighter32's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you never took the VSS out of the transfer case and just transferred the whole thing you can disregard that part most likely. I'm betting the signal simply isn't getting from the VSS to the gauge cluster, or the +5V sensor power wire isn't connected to the VSS... where it stops is the part to figure out now. -
Pulling engine/tranny/t-case all as one unit...
kastein replied to KMAPRO's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If it's the same one I have, don't worry about it, I have had an entire 4.0/aw4/np231 drivetrain on mine with it set for longest reach (500lb limit) and I was horsing around on it pretty good to get it lined up, didn't even budge. Make sure you have the piston release cranked down as hard as you can get it though or it will slowly leak down. -
Speedometer Doesn't Work
kastein replied to FireFighter32's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Did you swap the wiring harnesses and such as well? The signal from the VSS (sensor on the transfer case tail housing) needs to make it to the speedo/odo input on the gauge cluster somehow, if you left the stock 89 instrument panel and interior wiring harness in place that's probably the issue. It will be easier to wire that signal independently than it will be to swap the whole harness as you will need to modify the 94 XJ harness to fit an MJ. -

Wow, never knew that adapter even existed, my 91 either didn't come with one or it got lost. Just the jack crank handle itself works fine so far for lowering/raising the tire winch however. -
that guy needs a spellcheck... I would also offer 400, an 89 with the motor pulled and needing a rebuild for an unspecified reason isn't worth that much, my friend got my 91 MJ with a running motor for 600 (I later bought it off him for 800 after we put about 300 dollars in parts into it.) The guy claimed it had an oil leak and would need to be trailered home but I figured out the problem, bought a foot of 3/8 tranny cooler line at napa, threw it on with a couple hose clamps and we drove it home. I rarely see 2drs, never mind Limiteds... and those vent windows are pretty rare too!

post office is no problem around here. RMV (yeah, we call it the RMV in this stupid state) is a disaster. I spent the first hour and a half of my birthday sitting in that hellhole this year. Some old decrepit smelly dude who thought he was a comedian and voicing everyone's thoughts spent the entire time griping about the wait quite loudly... well, he spent 45 minutes doing that, then finally his number was called and he had been an idiot and not actually filled out his paperwork so they sent him to the back of the line! :rotf: :wavey: :shake: he got his paperwork and filled it out very slowly at the back of the room while reading each line item to himself, then went back to his seat and continued griping. EVERYONE else was glaring/muttering/wishing he would keel over already. Got tired of it and went over, asked him if he could either gripe less, or more quietly, a few people clapped and he shut the hell up. Got my darn license renewed and was for once glad to go to the office. Airport is a joke... been through it several times with ultra sketchy packages. First time I had a 6 foot long twisted pair ribbon cable with 64 coaxial cables spliced to it in a massive heatshrinked mess (breakout cable for a 64-channel ADC board) and my co-workers had their suitcases loaded with ADC boards and assorted computer parts. They xrayed our stuff and just said "telecom workers?" we answered yes to make things simpler, we were actually working for the navy and doing a hydrophone array data logging / processing unit install. I looked at the screen on the xray machine and when my stuff went through I could have sworn it looked like a bomb or something. Second time I checked a pelican case with 2 folding boxcutters, a leatherman, 3 two-way radios and external mics, a charging base, a network switch, and a small set of hand tools... it clunked and clanked strangely and they didn't even blink, but when they went to load it they thought it was expensive tools (due to the case and strange sounds) so they handled it extra carefully and sent it direct, it was waiting for me in the baggage claim office with a special handling tag on it instead of on the conveyor belt. I'll be using that method again, it cut my baggage claim wait time down significantly...

I have not gotten that far yet either (tried double face tape, it fell off) but I am planning on removing the B pillar trim (need to anyways to put my headliner back in after I reupholster it) and epoxying some 1/8" ABS sheet across the back of the hole. I figure I should be able to bore the right size hole in it afterwards and then a few small screws will hold it in.

Newbie with a couple questions
kastein replied to ClemXP's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Not sure on 1), 2) yeah go for it (it was eliminated in later years, just block off the vacuum lines etc), 3) is your radiator plugged or corroded badly maybe? could be time for a replacement. 4) don't bother with aftermarket! Go to your nearest junkyard and pull the gauge cluster from any 87-90 4.0L XJ or MJ that has the full gauges, along with the oil pressure sender and temperature sender at the rear driver side of the head right next to the valve cover bolts. Set the odo to match yours (it's easy on a 90 or earlier) take a digicam pic for legal proof and stick all the new parts in yours, and you are done! You can use an 87-90 2.5L gauge cluster as well, but you'll have to adjust the tach to be accurate since it basically counts pulses from the ignition control module, on a 4cyl there are only 4 pulses per rev while the 6cyl has 6 per rev so obviously it'll be way off without being adjusted. Not sure about if you can use the cluster from a diesel XJ/MJ but if you find one, let us know, a bunch of guys on here would LOVE to buy parts out of one. -
If you get stuck because you have tires spinning, and don't have a locker, ride the brakes a little... may blow up your pinion and side gears if you get too friendly with the go pedal, or have a d35, but can save your butt.
