Was in Fort Wayne, In. And looking at cars with my son. I looked in the back lot and see a rust free Pioneer Comanche setting there. I ask the sales man what they want for it. He said they can not sell it because it was a $4500 Cash-For-Clunkers trade in. :headpop: I said what do you do with them? He said they look up the motor and send it to get crushed. My mouth was on the ground. I said you are going to take a rust free truck to get it crushed? He said " Just Say Thank You Obama"

we've had members of this board contemplate doing the same thing. I say that america has become a joke....and while my generation is generally "godless rebels" who are doing nothing to stop it much less help it, it's our parent's generation that's putting it into affect.

so a big Eff you to our leaders. and thank you to the troops standing up for what they thought (when signing up) was a fight for freedom and democracy.

Simple solution. Quit whining and blamimg someone else, and do something about it, or get the hell out. It's your turn.

Do you think you could have asked which salvage yard it was going to? Then you could have gotten parts from it. I live over by Columbia City. There are not too many comanches around our area, good or bad. :wall:

From what I understand, if you are willing to pay the 4500.00 you can buy them. But ,of course, 99.9% of the cars arent worth close to that. :fs1:

No shortage of rust free MJs in the NW. If you guys in the rust belt want 'em we could easily export em to you for the right price.

PS They ruin the engine and then part out the rest.

I work in a salvage yard, and most yards I know of aren't willing to pay anything for a vehicle over 20 years old that has no motor. I have had a few dealerships call and ask what we would pay for a rig with no motor. Of course, my yard specializes in the cars that Obama is trying to keep on the road, the plastic pieces of crud that don't last very long anyway. I only have two pre 90 xj's and one mostly stripped 87 MJ left. It makes me sad.

I looked over the intake when I dropped off the beat up xj last night. About half were of marginal value like my xj. The other half were surprisingly valuable. Toyota four runner with no damage for example. I don't doubt the Portland yards will pay a flat $300 for all of em considering they can get the cream puffs too.

uh. hornbrod, in our country, you can't do ANYTHING to change the government until you're roughly middle-aged. well, other than protest and that's gonna get me nowhere.

I've already called my senator on numerous occasions.

Serious question- what do you think magically changes when you turn middle age? Anything a middle aged guy can do a 20 something can if he has little character and integrity. Without those a person is a lost at any age.

that said, you can't get to a point where you're respected enough to make change over night. you have to work for it, day in day out starting in lowly political spots and working your way up. The only thing a guy my age can do to effect change is head down that path, or bich out people who have already been down that path.

I choose the latter, because I do NOT want to live a stress full life as a politician.

Who cares....... We only got 1242 days left anyway. 12/21/2012?

Just had to throw that in.

If we all did our part and helped out in some way, we would all see a difference.

I work in the used car biz and once a car qualifies for the Cash For Clunkers and is traded in It is issued a Certificate Of Destruction and can't be registered ANYWHERE in the U.S. and they require the dealer to Destroy the vehicle. They can't sell it even if they want to. This is really hurting used car dealers who are already suffering from a lack of quality trade-ins.My inventory is already down by 50% and it doesnt look like its going to get any better.

yep, there's way too much hear say and people getting the facts of this loser program all wrong. it cannot be bought, used, parted out or anything, it gets crushed. this program isn't helping anyone, and the ones who do qualify are not helped by beeing enticed into more debt. thats what we need, more debt, i guarantee repos will go up.

Sorry but you are out and out wrong. They are DEFINITELY parting the rigs. I was paid an extra $300 for the salvage value of a bone stock xj. As to people being enticed you are kidding right? If some one is an adult they can make their own decision even if you don't agree with it. It isn't any better to be a knee jerk conservative than being a knee jerk liberal.

Yep, I always vote. But lately it's more of an exercise in futility as my guys seldom win anymore. About the only thing that went right in the last few elections is finally making our redneck county wet and I can buy a case of beer w/o driving 30 miles or so and paying taxes to the adjacent county. WooHoo! At least it's not all bad.

I find that just entirely bizarre. I don't think there is any area of Canada (currently) where the religiously affiliated whack-jobs managed to prevent the sale of alcohol or other 'sins'. There's dry towns, but that's for an entirely different reason, normally having to do with (uh-oh, stereotyping) the native population being unable to handle a little booze. There's also towns where you can't buy booze in a glass bottle; something to do with too many people being stabbed with broken bottles. My stereotyping applies there too... Religions though, they have little clout. Other than the Sikhs can wear a kirpan in schools, and a few other little 'problems' that have popped up.

Now, about the program in question... Is not the stated underlying purpose to get people to buy newer, more fuel efficient and emissions friendly vehicles? And would not perhaps the other purpose be to stimulate a little economic action as cash NEEDS to flow for the economy to work at all? And might there not be a little vested interest as your government (and unfortunately mine) happens to have bought into a few of the auto manufacturers, which would be at this point a positive thing as if those said companies fail again it will be on your dime? Obviously there is bad with the good, but ought you not accept that it must be and make the best of the good? I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that lenders aren't going to give people loans for vehicles when they have no or terrible credit, but I could be wrong. And also I'd say there's probably going to be a lot more $#!&-boxes removed from existence than perfectly good used vehicles. Again, I could be wrong.

Of course, I imagine at least some of you don't believe in global warming. I'd like a reasonable explanation on that, as I have trouble understanding what part of that you don't believe? (If that seems out of left field, well, I read chit-chat on pirate)

I blew this offer off by mistake at first. My wife needs a car badly. I'm getting a Nissan Sentra, $4500+$2000 rebate. I didn't think you could get rebates with this offer, but I found out today. So, 18k car for $11.5. A good deal for us. I'll be trading in my wore out Grand worth $1500 tops, but needing $1000 in repairs. I'm keeping the Comanche, I don't want to see it crushed. Sorry, but this program works for me.

they have changed the details since i first read it, and i read the earliest version. seeing how the program just started, the early versions said the trade would be destroyed, no ifs and or buts, no parts no nothing. but here is how its stated in this artice: http://www.chicagotribune.com/topic/orl ... picgallery

Q: What happens to my clunker?

A: The dealer will permanently disable the engine, then send it to an approved salvage yard. The salvage-yard operator can sell parts off it, including transmission parts, but not engine parts. The rest will be shredded or crushed.

I don't vote, therefore I have no right to whine, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

But my situation is different from most:

1 - I am not allowed to vote. Part of gaining the right to vote is to give up my Dutch nationality. That is not likely to ever happen.

2 - I am not allowed to "get out". I'm a divorced father with joint custody. Even if I were willing to leave my kids behind, my ex-wife and I are forbidden by law to move more than 25 miles away from each other without the other person's written/signed/notarized permission, more than 100 miles required a judge's permission as well, and out of state is "NO", period.

Do not get divorced when you have kids under the age of 18. You have no rights whatsoever if you do.

The time to cry about this was a few months ago when the bill wasn't passed yet. Day late and a dollar short now.

Watched an interview yesterday on CNN  , with one of the jokers in DC that was trying to explain how great this was. He has defintely drank the cool aid and couldn't be persuaded that this was dumb. The bill was passed in the hopes that 250,000 new cars would be sold under this plan before it ends this fall. Right now they estimated only 50,000 have been sold. I'll bet they extend it.

Local dealers here are offering double the amount on select models. Great deal if you are in the market or have to have a new car. There is one thing about all this besides the lost of some nice vehicles. This program is being paid for by your tax dollars. And since the price varies, I averaged the cost at 4K, then multiplied that by thier planned 250,000. Yeah, thats one billion dollars on top of how much that the government has paid out to the failing auto companys? But wait, I would take a good guess that a lot of that is going to non-US auto makers.

It's hard to believe that this great nation is in debt to other countries around the world because of these bright ideas. :shake:
