project88mj
my dad is a little mad about storing my mj now the it is not my dd and he wants to talk me in to selling it. now i want to keep it cause in the 3 years ive had it i have olny seen about 5maybe 6 other jeep comanches in oklahoma. now i know that these trucks are a "rare" so to speak so naturally i want to keep it. not to mention the mount of time and money i have put in to it. so i know that he will push me to sell it untill i do. We all know i will not get what i want to sell it for. AND chances are that the guy who buys it will not under stand what he has and let the truck go to wast over time. so does any one know of a good way that i can store is for like 4-5 years till i can make it in to the Xtreme Truggy i always wanted? Pete M
I follow all the laws on my trucks that don't move. Each is plated and insured (for parking, not for driving). After that it's just a matter of shuffling them around to avoid the 30 day restriction (a blight rule that says all vehicles have to move every 30 days). Personally, I'd just keep the truck up to date and drive it once in a while.
ComancheKid45
Is this the fairly heavly damaged truck for the accident? that could be an issue with driving it... :dunno:
Pete M
I wouldn't drive it much (around the block a couple times), but I'd do everything needed to keep it "legal". Even if it just sits in the street (although, around here there's a 48 hour rule on that). My trucks are all parked in my neighbors unused parking lot (drs office). I've thought about what would happen if he sold the place and I lost my private parking spaces. The 86 would go to one grandparents, the 90 to the other. The 88 would stay in my driveway and that leaves the Dakota. Not sure what I'd do with it. Although, now that I think about it (again), I'm going to call the Ins company tomorrow and see if my basic parking coverage applies to public roads or just private property. :hmm:
86FUBAR
I'm going to call the Ins company tomorrow and see if my basic parking coverage applies to public roads or just private property. :hmm: dude u can't even park a vehicle on private property unless its reg,s and ins. that blows big time , thats enuf to make me move out of there . man thats funny though because people always say that it must suck living in cali with all the smog laws and other stuff but i think we got it better , and we aint got no rust neither :D
Pete M
Just small town suburbia. Our city seems to try and pretend it's a bigger and more affluent city. Bunch of posers. :fs1:
mvusse
Here in Ohio you can have a vehicle on private property without plates or insurance, although some local ordinances forbid "abandoned" vehicles on private property. Meaning you need to have a privacy fence or a tarp over it or something so the vehicle is not obviously visible.
JeepcoMJ
storage unit. 10x20. you can likely get one for less than $60 per month. get a buddy to go halvsies so they can store small things in there too. if you're going to truggy it, you could always chop the back half off and get rid of it, then get a small storage unit for $30 or so a month and put it in there :D or find a buddy with some land to put it on. OR. maybe someone would buy the thing from you, and you can find a new nice one in a few years?
JOMJ87
Well I am currently working on getting a XJ to i hate to say this Replace the MJ (try to i guess would be better) I have changed alot on the MJ and the only factory things left is the sheetmetal. 8 Years ago it was my first vehicle too. So with all that sentimental value one would ask how do you get rid of it and my answer???? Sell it to family who understands (my Cousin) the love and the fact that if they ever sell it or want to you are #1 on the list to call and the price better be good. Me and my cousin have a contract of sorts just verbal but he knows if that truck gets hurt in any way and its his fault or if he sells it without giving me a chance first then its his head when i get to him!!! :D I am helping him build it and gave him a price a brother deserves and i believe he will take care of it or i will when i visit if need be. Its the only way i could tell myself it would be OK and it still is a teary moment to think of. Luckily it will be awhile till he gets the money so i got some time. Good luck and tell your dad "its a MJ thing you wouldnt understand" :dunno: Cole
Drahcir495
As much it pains me to say this - sell it. You're in S'cool to get a degree and make something of yourself. Focus on that and in 3 or 4 years you will have the financial freedom to get what you want (unless it’s a Liberal Arts degree, then you will be taking every third quarter from the toll patrons like me). I don't know your situation, i.e. parents paying for S'crewl or if you earned a scholarship, but you need to prioritize. But if your folks are paying for your education - it's a golden egg - give the man what he wants. Now I am going to hide from the hand tool being thrown my way
cocco78
Sell it... there are alot of MJ's out there. If you store it at $60 a month for 4 years thats $2,880 in rental fee's... To bad your dad has to be that way, my dad would store stuff for me if he could get away with it where he lives. I'm not sure if its a Michigan law, but I know its enforced by the blight officer in my town, nothing in the yard without registration and insurance if its a car. A junk vehicle can sit on a flatbed for like 48 hrs or something like that, same thing with any non op car even if it has plates and insurance on it! I hate living in town. :(
pingpong
I have to agree with the posters saying sell it. Unfortunately our vehicles are not worth what we really put in to them, and If you are going to truggy it...find one that is in worse shape and cut it up. Or better yet.. start with a purpose built chasis and go from there(wish I had done that). Focus on school.

mvusse
That's like PC on GLXJ. He had an XJ, wheeled it and sold it cause he needed the money. Then missed it, so he bought another one. Traded it for a 4x4 FS Chevy cause he needed money and buddy needed aback seat for kids. Now he's thinking of wheeling a Chevy with a bunch of MJs and XJs 2/28 at Haspin. Unless he puts a home made Jeep logo over the bow tie on the grille, he'll probably be the butt of a lot of jokes. Then again, it's got posi front and rear.
