More payload add-a-leafs.
Knucklehead97 replied to Knucklehead97's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I haven't gotten around to verifying it yet, but I believe that a cut-off XJ main leaf would be perfect for adding carrying capacity without adding lift. The key is to find an AAL that has approximately the same free arch as the MJ springs have when sitting at curb weight (unloaded). Unscientific eyeballing tells me that an XJ main leaf should be about right, but I haven't actually crawled under one of my MJs with an XJ leaf in hand to compare. There is no reason why an XJ AAL would make the ride harsh. I've done the XJ AAL using cut-off main leaves twice, and the resulting ride was very comfortable. I see no reason why it would be any less comfortable in an MJ. Keep in mind that the XJ uses 5/16" center pins for the springs, where the MJ uses 3/8" pins. You'll probably have to drill out the holes if you use XJ leaves. Hmm. Also sounds cheap! Plenty of people around here part out xj's for super cheap. Last time I was at the JY there was a metric ton packaged XJ as well, I'm sure that main leaf would add a good bit. I need to look into the free arch and see if they would work... -

do those take a lot to install? -
Afternoon fella's! I had seen a post from a LONG time ago about Hellcreek having add a leafs that simply increased payload. There was a regular one and a metric ton one. I loved the idea and looked into them. I contacted Tom from Hellcreek and he told me that they discontinued them (bummer). Does anyone else sell something similiar? I want to increase payload but can not afford the 500-1000$ for a set of MT springs right now. The auto MJ that I bought a couple months ago is going to end up being my trailer tow-er/weekend-pickup-supplies-from-the-hardware-store truck and I would like for it to be able to handle a little more weight.

Just got my Krustyballer hitch last night. It is fantastic, I have to say. I have not installed it (will update when I install and test it, it will be a couple months) and the build quality is amazing. The welds are beautiful, everything is lined up perfectly, and the sucker is SOLID and HEAVY. The build quality is much better than the Draw-tite front hitch that I have. I have not found a single con to it, so far, and I don't see me finding one. One thing I was glad to see is that the trailer-chain hook ups are no longer pieces of 1/4" rectangular steel. But a thick piece of steel with holes cut into it (image below.) All together I am VERY pleased with my purchase and can not wait to put it to good use. My other Jeep will be getting one as soon as it's back on the road.

My gauge on my stickshift MJ was pegged over full. It was because a wire was burnt off the sender inside the tank. I have the old sender somewhere... I'll look for it and snap a pic when I get the chance.

awesome, thanks! I've been throwing around the idea of putting a top on the bed. Just prefer the open bed look.

right? The price is too much for sure. I more so was asking if anybody had done anything similiar :D I always seem to find a way to do things I find on the internet for a tenth of the price.

Only problem I can see is the fact that neither of my MJ's have top-of-the-bedrail connections. I was thinking I could do this, plus use one of the removable gutter mount roof bars I have and run a string to a tree for a tarp so I would have cover over me. Otherwise my camping plans are to make a bar which goes in my hitch to string my Hennesy hammock to a tree :D

My brothers got a 40" Samsung 1080P for 250$. I got two half decent phones for 70$ (I'm not into fancy phones, if it works and lasts long then I'll take it...) and then of course I got a set of 2awg battery cables and a Krusty hitch while they were at good prices :D

Dual electric fans?
Knucklehead97 replied to johnj92131's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Doesn't having dual electric fans help with horsepower and gas mileage due to not having to spin a big metal fan to pull air in? I'm sure it's a very slight increase, I just had heard it did help nonetheless -
I'll keep you and his family in my prayers, Cruiser. Hate to hear that sir.

So what's the point of that Knuck? It accomplishes nothing except maybe a silent protest that no one hears except yourself. But that's cool. I don't recall the number, he'll probably know, but if the part gets X percent of the popular vote they automatically get to participate in all? of the debates the next election. Basically, it's another big step to actually being heard, and being considered a legitimate party. Or something like that, I'm Canadian, I get confused with how your system works at times. :dunno: I believe it is 15%. I think we were at 12% during the first vote this go round.

So what's the point of that Knuck? It accomplishes nothing except maybe a silent protest that no one hears except yourself. But that's cool. The way I see it is I would prefer to "waste" my vote by voting for someone I actually stand behind the beliefs of rather than voting to keep a "greater evil" out of office. My party is making progress. This election we got a higher percentage than we have in the last 20 years. Definitely could have done better though. And also, it's hardly a silent protest. I've gotten in multiple arguments over the election because other people enjoy bashing me for being Libertarian. It's just the way the cookie crumbles. Either way, I'll always support someone with beliefs that I can stand behind. Gotta stand for something :D

I was definitely disappointed by the 3rd/4th party showing. Both the mainstream parties definitely shouted "A vote for 3rd part is a vote for (Trump/Hillary)" and it seems it sunk in a bit. I personally feel it would do the US better if you wound up with 4 legitimate parties that represented something more like the 4 corners of the political spectrum. I know many Libertarians that jumped ship and voted for one of the main parties. I just wish we could get on the debates. You know, just give us a chance.
-
I prefered Trump over Hillary but I voted for neither. Voted, still, but voted for neither. Being Libertarian I'm never happy with the way the election turns out.

Was that with brights or lows on? That's about equal to the low my H4 bulbs produce.

Added to my Christmas list. Also finally got around to buying a shirt from you :D will be ordering multiple other colors once I see how the fit is!

I like the TJ front bumper. Simple but different. The camo looks great but needs black rims :D

I would love to see how bright these are.

dreaded flickering headlight syndrome
Knucklehead97 replied to 54bobby's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Si. Put the harness in anyhow. Hated it? That's kind of strong mate. I don't like the yellow loom, but the harness itself works just fine. the yellow just ruined it for me. Stood out like crazy. I bought it back when I was dumb and didn't think to check Ebay for a black one. As far as it working, it got the job done for sure. But it was double the price of the Ebay ones and didn't come with fuses (or at least mine didn't) plus I didn't see the reason for two positive wire connections. Just crowded up my positive post even more. Nit picky, I know, but all of that led to my hate for it. Lastly the wire insulation started to deteriorate after about 8 months of being outside on the truck. Hate is a strong term... how about, strongly dislike? :D -

Don't get the Putco. I hated mine on my other Jeep. The Ebay one I bought was 20$ shipped and works/looks way better,
