What type of DD car should I look at? Opinions!
Knucklehead97 replied to Knucklehead97's topic in The Pub
there's a Miata on Instagram that a guy actually lifted and put 31" MT's on, it's crazy! I'm not really leaning away from the Miata as much as I am postponing it until I get a little more settled down as a manager in a nearby store with Publix. Miata would probably end up becoming another big project car for me... -
Genssi 80W CREE LED White 1156 Reverse Lights

True :D I tend to park as far away as possible to try and keep from having to reverse in a crowd. Phones kind of keep peoples attention more than walking now a days... -

Knucklehead97 replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You back up and hit someone/thing...You are the one who is in the wrong. Backup lights or no backup lights, it doesn't matter. But for us old farts, more light is a good thing! I realize it would be my fault. But more light would give more warning and allow me to see more. Any person with a small amount of sense knows to watch out while someone is reversing anyways. I've been tapped by a car before because of a guy not having reverse lights and just flooring it into reverse. -

Knucklehead97 replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm going to do both. The flush mounts will be ran off of a switch, though and just used as an extra backup light when needed. Or just to say "hey, jackwagon walking behind me, my reverse lights are on" -

same here. Always has been the most reliable coupon source for me.

I ended up ordering this kit. Had a mechanic do the lines for me and apparently he didn't know what a double flare was because he regular flared it and then told me I would have to go somewhere else after I said that was the wrong type of flare. Sadly have to wait EVEN LONGER to get this project done. Harbor freights tool just looked too cheap to justify spending 22$ on. Plus I needed something to put me over 50$ on Amazon so I ordered an OBD2 software key and cord for my laptop.
-
Hydraulic? why? What? everywhere I've read on the internet says that the hydraulic ones are the way to go if you have the cash (300$) perfect flares each time apparently. I doubt I ever will need the tool often enough to justify that, but it would be nice to one day have. Just haven't liked my experience with the manual ones so far haha

Head unit wiring
Knucklehead97 replied to GeorgiaJeeper93's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
brake fluid IS clutch fluid. Both are DOT3 from factory. Best to refill the clutch with DOT5 from what I understand so the master cylinder has no chance of ruining your block when it eventually starts leaking. -
Head unit wiring
Knucklehead97 replied to GeorgiaJeeper93's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
On my stickshift MJ I had to run another fused wire for the 12v constant line because my fuse block is ruined from brake fluid. On my auto one, however, I simply had a blown fuse. The 12v constant does NOT run through the "radio" fuse but actually through the "dome" one. Do your dome lights work? If not, then chances are there is your problem. Or just check the wires with a multimeter. I forget the colors but one should always have power and the other one should kick in when you turn the key to ON. I just bought 3 Pioneer bluetooth radios from Walmart because they were marked down for 40$ (came with 4 speakers each as well) and installed one in my MJ since the aux cord was getting another. It's awesome because the bluetooth one actually has an internal battery for maintaining the memory when the car battery is disconnected -
Well after 3 rental tools all of them failed to give me good flares. Not sure if it was the tool, or me. Every one of the tools had something wrong with it though. One had a bent stem on the 3/16" adapter, the threads on the clamp were stripped on another, and the last ones pintle was messed up on the tip and wouldn't press it into a 45 degree flare. Tomorrow I will be stopping by a local mechanic shop and seeing if they will double flare the 2 lines for me. If I see myself needed to flare more often I'll drop the cash on a fancy hydraulic tool...

Military Wrapped Springs With Lift, Group Buy
Knucklehead97 replied to Biotex's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Just got off the phone with Joe. He is ordering the springs for us and it will be 4-6 weeks before they're done, of course. But he won't be changing the price or anything until about a week before they're done so keep the money put back and try to hold in the excitement! -

Check out redpepperracing.com on Facebook, there's lots of older ones listed that aren't "riced" out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk nice! Thanks! I've been researching a BUNCH lately. And while I'm on the track of keeping the Contour and saving money, I have decided on my next car. A Ford Escort ZX2. I looked into them a bunch and they are apparently very reliable (ends up the 2.0 isn't as crappy as I thought...) and also great little project cars. I love how they look, as well. Upon looking around C-list they can be had for 1500-2000 for a clean low mileage one. Much better pricing than the Miata, and more room. Only downside is it is FWD. But I will survive. Plans for it would be a daily, of course. With as many slight performance mods as possible within budget and ect. Just gotta add my own little touch to it, ya know? -

http://www.generalspringkc.com/product_p/gsc-571.htm Here is a link to the springs for anyone wondering the exact specs. They are built with an extra 1/2" arch and when Biotex installed them on his MJ which hardly had any spring sag he got 1 1/2" lift. But that was BEFORE they settled. I would see on a brand new MJ these would provide 1" of lift after settling. Money is burning a hole in my pockets as well, we currently have 4 definites and hopefully 5 if Schardein is good. Once we have 5 I will call as soon as I get the chance and let you know what Joe says. -

the springs have another 1/2" of arch so they provide a LITTLE lift. I'll paste a link to the springs when I get home because they're hidden on the website -

That's 4! And these will take the same time to manufacture as the last group buy did. 4-6 weeks. Personally I'm happy about that because it gives me time to figure out some other stuff on the Jeep. -

Awesome! That's 3 people so just 2 more. Joe will be chiming in when he gets the time. Basically once we get 5 people in he'll change the price on the website or we can order over the phone from what I understand. -

If you're a speedperks member at Advance Auto then you can get at least 40$ off a battery if you buy online and pickup in store. I paid exactly 100$ for a new group 34 battery after taxes- 38 replies

Hell Creek springs are 834$ shipped to me for a set, so this is definitely the route I'm going. My rear sags way too much with just my tool box so I'm excited to have MT springs :D
