Local auction has 100's of hitch for sale near me, mostly Drawtite. Question is what is the Drawtite Comanche Part Number? Maybe I can find one or two, if I get the correct part #.

What Other Camper Shells Fit?
johnj92131 replied to jeffheffe's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Sorry if I came over as harsh - not my intention. That is why I provided an answer to his question. Best place to look for a shell is here on the ComancheClub and then on Craigslist. Trouble is, most likely you will have to travel if you find a Comanche specific shell. When looking for an S10 shell as a replacement, I would use Craigslist and ask the seller to measure the length and width of his shell to get an idea if it was close to fitting before I drove out to see the shell. There is an old post I will attempt to find with the years and dimensions of the S10 shell that does fit the Comanche bed. The last shell I got for my Commanche was on CraigsList, BUT someone on the ComancheClub had reposted the CL ad here. Then I found it here and drove 300 miles to get the shell. Jeez dude, if people only asked questions that had never been asked, there wouldn't be much of a forum, would there!!? You scared off a noob!! I'd like to know the answer too. I've looked far and wide for a shell that actually fits and looks good. The people listing on CL just say "off a Chevy" or "fits any small truck". Nobody prints dimensions. Very frustrating. I don't know if there is a perfect shell for an MJ. S-10...too short height wise (and narrow)...older Yota, wrong angle at cab...I even tried one off an Isuzu truck...too narrow. The only one that I've seen actually fit are the aluminum ones. I don't personally like those, but they're light...seems like they'd be noisy -
What Other Camper Shells Fit?

Not to be an @$$...This has been asked and answered before. I "think" some years of S10 shells fit, but are lacking in height. -
Hood Conversion, Hydraulic

Jimoshel, Let me know if the Redline installation manual helps you do the install. I like the Redline kit, but I am too cheap from other projects right now. -
Dual Battery Set-Ups - Diesels?
johnj92131 replied to Bornindesert's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If I recall correctly, the dual battery setup was factory on the overseas Cherokee diesels. Perhaps check GoJeep site? Or other Austrailian off road jeep sites for more information. -
Keep your Comanche seats if they fold forward. Then check out the local yards for decent Cherokee seats. They are out there and you can find them for a reasonable price. When I did my conversion from bench to bucket seats I found a set of Commanche buckets cheap for the seat mounts and the folding seat backs. Then I looked hard for Cherokee bucket seats in good condition for the fabric and cushions. I purchased two sets of Cherokee buckets then put the best parts of the seats together to make a close to new set of buckets. You have the time to do this with your build.

Led License Plate Illumination
johnj92131 replied to AMCJeepMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I too have doubts about their longevity, but with eight of them it should be a lifetime supply. Yes, but how many times do you want to do the job over and over again. Buy quality, do it right the first time. Not saying you get more for a higher price, but sometime it just pays to do it right the first time. -
Don, Where did you get the lighted mirror with the homelink? I really do like my lighted mirror. Since I am allways switching grage remote controllers, I would love to find a lighted mirror with homelink for the Commanche. Can you point me where to look? Thanks, This is very nice little upgrade. I have personally done it with great success. What's even better is the lighted mirror with Homelink.

My Mj Turbodiesel Project
johnj92131 replied to altrocker1's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
The Puegeot automobile was sold in the U.S. till about 1991. The last Puegeot diesel powered cars in the U.S. were sold in 1986 with a turbocharged 2.5 ltr 4 cylinder. MUCH more reliable than the Renault diesel. My dad owned two different Puegot 504 cars. The first was a 1970 they purchased for delivery in Europe. The 504 had a great ride with lots of suspension travel. That car was totaled in a car accident. My dad purchase another new 504 with out even driving it. I drove it for the test drive and he just sat in the other seat for the ride. He had made up his mind to buy the car before he even went to the dealer. -
Welcome to the club! Did you get the Slund visor also? Good score. $1000 is a nice price! I paid $1150 for my 91 long bed metric ton with a SnugTop shell. Again, Welcome! lol I doubt it. Supposedly accoridng to him what is rare is finding a seven foot bed and the ginormous fuel tank ect ect. Its why I said you guys could tell me lol. This first picture is showing the condition I got the truck in. The guy had painted it with a paint brush. This second picture is newer. I've painted one side of it, Right now its in the driveway with the new to me buckets sitting in it half bolted down lol. I'm still working on some things. I'm going to be looking into swapping the cluster so it is not just dummy lights. I've also got to look as to why it is not kicking into 4x4. Axle will disconnect and stuff just no 4 wheel lol.

Actually, 23.5 gallon tank was optional in 1987. Standard long bed tank was 18 gallons. 23.5 tank became standard long bed about 1990/91

Mark, I sent an email on this truck just a few minutes ago. Might be a good find. Interested in looking at it with me? JJ -
I used a power mirror switch from an Isuzu Rodeo. Put it in the blank spot right between the light switch and the steering column. Looks and works great. Way better than trying to adapt/install the Cherokee mirror switch. And shorter wire runs.

In California, you need a Class 1 drivers license to do that. Only seen it 1 time and called CHP to find out what the deal was.

YES! Dakota tank fits shortbed, it is plastic - not steel. Plus 4 extra gallons over short bed 18 gal. tank. -
Military Wrapped Springs With Lift, Group Buy
johnj92131 replied to Biotex's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My 91 long bed came with the factory "Big Ton" (aka Metric Ton) package. The second owner added two additional overload leafs to each side. He hauled drywall. My truck still rides OK when empty, but it is a truck - not an SUV. A 300 mile one way trip is not an issue for us at all. And the truck is still OK with a 3300 lbs of blocks properly loaded in the bed for a short ride home. A short bed would, I expect, be less comfortable. Military Wrap sounds like a "possible" issue and an extra expense. -

Will she really swallow that line???? -
Sure, why not. Automotive engines are usually the source for forklift engines. Easy to get as an oem, much cheaper than building your own. Easy to work on, convert to Propane and you can run it inside a warehouse with no problems. Old Chevy inline 6 for example or Nissan diesel 6 if you like.
