  1. EPA said 25 city and 26 highway for the 1985 Jeep Cherokee 2.1 Diesel Here is the link: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymodel/1985_Jeep_CherokeeWagoneer.shtml By comparison the 2.5 gas Cherokee was rated at 18 city and 24 highway Not much of a highway improvement, but a good city improvement. But, remember the 2.1 diesel is hard to find parts for and poorly understood in this country.
  2. Interesting toy for somebody with an 86 Comanche body in good shape. Wonder if it would drive 1200 miles home on Interstate 5?
  3. Sounds like you have a good plan. Fix it and you save some money in fuel. And you have a pot load of cheap spare parts for any future needs. But don't forget to adjust your tire pressure and adjust your driving style. Both of those things can gain more mpg on either a 2.5 or a 4.0, just should be even better with the 2.5 I would also be looking to see what I can do to bump the ignition advance forward for more mpg. That used to be a good trick - just get a different vacuum advance in the distributor for more ignition advance at cruise conditions.

No doubt this hit a nerve with some people. But voter turn our was very low, so the enthusiastic few turned out and most of the potential voters stay home. Sadly, a common story.

    Some time in ancient Athens!
  6. The XJ belongs above the MJ, far and away. The Agri-Jeeps sure earned their keep and kept the story going. Agree with you about postal jeeps being worth their weight. Bottom line is the Comanche was a niche product. Other Jeeps got the bacon home and paid for AMC to keep going for years. The MJ did not do that. And as far as high mpg - the MJ is nowhere near the top of the list. Want a 1 ton payload? Get an 85 Toyota 4 banger. Way better mpg and just as solid an engine as the 4.0 Still, glad I have my BigTon long bed Comanche.
  7. Thanks for the response. Kind of what I thought. Oh well.
  8. Just found this today. Very nice build! It is a shame you have not used it much. That is what tends to happen with trailers/campers. Don't think I have used my camping trailer in 3 years now.

  14. Long time ago the latch holding my sliding window and the aluminum piece on the slider felloff my slider. Naturally I put the parts in a very safe place. After moving to the new house 2 years ago I can't find the safe place I put the parts. So I have been hunting for replacement parts. Found them 6 weeks ago and installed them Sunday. Had to wait for the silicone to dry for 3 hours. In the mean time decided to chec out some parts boxes in the garage. Guess what I found Sunday afternoon? You got it the old latch assembly I could not find for the last 3 or 4 years.

  16. WRONG! concrete blocks can fail suddenly and totally. Wood blocks do not fail in the same sudden way. A concrete block failure can kill you, not so with wood blocks.
