  1. Not so fast. What you wrote is true for the HO versions with the Chrysler ECUs and injection, but the Renix engines have a knock sensor, and higher octane reduces knock. Which means you can work the engine harder without having the knock sensor shut things down. Also, at cruise throttle it allows more spark advance, and that means better fuel economy. I ran my '88 XJ on high test most of the time when I first got it. I was getting in the mid- to high 20s for gas mileage on it. Best ever was 28 MPG for a 250 mile trip. It is true that the Renix engines have a knock sensor. But the question is what does the computer do with the knock sensor data? Answer: I "think" it retards the spark to stop the knock. Don't think the Renix ecu uses the knock sensor data to advance the timing curve to where you would gain from 93 octane fuel. .
  2. Jeep Driver is correct - "These card games that people play are for people with money, not tight budgets." They work if you pay off the balance in full each month. If you do not pay it off every month then it doesn't work so well. If your budget is tight and you pay late - well you will get the sharp end of the stick in your back side. I use a Costco American Express card for just about everything and pay it off every month. Once a year, I get a check back that I promptly spend at Costco for the most part. I know some people who do like to play the multiple credit card games and get lots of airline miles, etc. But I have found it to be more trouble than it is worth. But that is just me. Now, my better half likes to save grocery coupons - she gets a kick out of it. Me? I don't care to put out the effort.
  3. :huh???: These HK researchers should look at their own government first. Sometimes some fresh, outside eyes see things a little differently. Still, interesting article.
  4. Nice looking truck and spoiler! Any idea where it came from? Yes, the Archer spoiler would not last on the street or a parking lot.
  5. Posted to CL over a month ago. Anyone contact the seller?
  6. I killed a small rattler in my back yard 2 summer ago. Cat was playing , trying to get the snake to play. Not a smart cat! 4 or 5 rattlers so far this summer on my block. Helped kill one of them. Animal control got a couple. The other two slithered away. A long handle shovel is a good thing for snakes.

    Thanks, Gents

Open heart surgery added 15+ good years to my father-in-law's life. On top of that he met his second wife at Mended Hearts. Not so bad. So just do what the doctors tell you to do and you will be better for it.
  8. The engine is designed to run on 87 octane pump gas from the factory. There is no provision in the engine management system to use higher octane fuel. In the "old days", you could change the ignition advance curve to get more power by advancing the timing or change the timing curve to use lower grade fuel without detonation. But today, you have to be a programmer to change the ignition curve. Stop throwing your money away.
  9. HOAs tend to be the rule in urban California. Best thing you can do is read and understand the CC&Rs prior to buying a home with deed restrictions. Once you are in the community, take an interest in your HOA by being a small part of it. That way you will learn how they function and why they do some crazy stuff. Professional HOA property managers tend to be very poorly paid because the home owners don't like paying the HOA fees, so you get poorly paid and over worked people sending out form letters to ask for compliance with the rules that Property Owners agreed to accept when they purchased the house. Then the owners don't want to follow the rules they agreed to and somehow, it becomes the stupid HOA - rather than the owner who will not live up to what they agreed to do when they purchased the house. In event of a dispute, the best thing is to talk to the board at a regular board meeting. That will usually lead to a good resolution of the issue. No, I am not an HOA property manager. Just learned how to live with them since I purchased my first house in 1972. 6 months ago was the last time I got a violation letter. Turned out the HOA was wrong and the problem went away when I pointed out they were wrong.
  10. "Needs to be smogged" That is a sign the engine has been screwed up. When emission stuff has been tampered with, there is no upper limit on how much you will have to pay to fix the problems AND you don't get to register the car/truck till you pass the smog test.
  11. Jim, You have not lived till you have a "transesophageal EKG". The put the EKG transmitter half way down your throat, with the cable running up your throat and out your mouth. All so they get a good view of the back side of your beating heart. A CAT scan is just a walk in the park (as long as you don't mind tight places). Like Don said, Do as they say and quit complaining.
  12. Like Jim said, just pull the sender from the tank and check it that way. You should see the contact that moves over the coil/resistor. Make sure it is making contact over the full range of float movement.
  13. Yes, it will fit just fine. Jim, glad to see you seem to be feeling just fine!
  14. Check out the shipping size on Ebay auctions. Some vendors will list a size. http://ecat.spectrapremium.com/a/000061710 Spectra says the 18 gal tank is 29 3/4 in. x 17 1/4 in. x 13 5/8 in. Their 23.5 tank is 29 3/4 in. x 17 1/4 in. x 13 5/8 in. The bigger tank needs 3 straps to hold it, the smaller tank uses 2 straps. If you have a long bed (you do) the bigger tank just slips right in - the factory did it and so can you. Failed to proof read my post!! Glad I posted the link to my source. Thanks for correcting my error!
  15. Have you had your hearing checked recently? Seriously. I have a family history of hearing issues and my hearing is getting to the point I need to take corrective action. You can also get an app for the cell phone that turns the phone into a sound meter. Measure your radio output then another XJ. Should be close to the same. If not, you know the radio is the issue.

  17. Just saw the ad, Know nothing more. http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/pts/4485367992.html
  18. Remember your truck is 25 or 30 years old. Lots of people have worked on the car during that time. So we do not know the truck electrical system is just like it came from the factory. What you have been doing is not working. So, as Jeep Driver told you, move on to another plan. With the key off, find a hot terminal at the fuse box. There is your 12 volt supply. Next find a fresh, direct ground. Use these two points to power up your radio. The radio should now power up and function. If it doesn't there is something wrong with one (or more) of the other wires you have connected to the radio.
  19. Awesome??? I posted this a few days ago - what would you call it? http://www.kijiji.ca...gationFlag=true 94,000 Kilometers is less than 60K miles. $1500 Canadian is less than 40% of $4K U.S. And it is WAY closer to you guys in the east. I have no financial interest, never seen the truck, don't know anything other than the ad. Just seems like a way better deal to me.
  20. Or post a Wanted ad in the Clasified section. Actually think I may have one in my parts collection. Know several others have them also.
  21. Use the stock, factory air intake. Also use the stock type air filters. Best for long engine life and for well filtered air. K & N air filters do not do a good job of trapping small particles, so your engine eats more "dirt". Horse power increase claims are mostly just that, claims not supported by anything. And ZERO for any car run in the real world. IF, the K & N type filter was worth anything at all in the "real world", auto makers some where in the world would use them in their expensive, high performace cars. But you don't see them used by any manufacturer, do you? Want to do something useful? Measure the temperature of the air going into the stock filter. Then find a source for colder air and route it to the stock air filter. Don't forget to get back to us with the before and after temperature readings under the same driving conditions. Cold air works. That is why you see intercoolers on turbocharged engines from the factory.
  22. Bill, Not a 4 x 4, but you can fix that. Here is a low miles 92 Eliminatior: http://www.kijiji.ca/v-autos-camions/trois-rivieres/1992-jeep-comanche-eliminator/593960306?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true
  23. For you guys in Canada and the eastern U.S who don't have $20K - This one with 94K kilometers looks like a better buy to me. 94K = 58K miles $2,000 Canadian. http://www.kijiji.ca/v-autos-camions/trois-rivieres/1992-jeep-comanche-eliminator/593960306?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true Before you call, it might help if you speak French. I don't, but my better half grew up in Montreal. So I have a translator. And, if I teller lets go to Quebec, she will be fine with me buying a truck there. Last time I found an engine I wanted in Quebec and got it that way!
