  1. The Pub section has a few of these reviews: "Team Cherokee Sucks" is one that comes to mind. Another thread that comes to mind is the recent one about problems with fitting an aftermarket rear bumper - that thread ended with a happy customer. Over the years, we have all seen the threads asking for advice/where do I get this type of questions. Lots of review type info there. Every time the B pillar light comes up, there is a good review for one particular supplier. My point is the reviews are out there if we search and ask for experience with this or that.
  2. Most excellent pictures Rob! Lots of Lighthouse pictures. All on the Great Lakes I assume.
  3. AAA card as ParadiseMJ noted, cell phone - both of which I carry with me. In the car - cell phone charger plugged into the cigarette lighter. That covers me for just about everything. Most other things - American Express or another credit card. But I don't go off road and don't use the truck for long distances. But, since I got rid of the SUV I may need to tow more with the Comanche or just replace it. Right now the Comanche works for what I need a truck.
  4. Big Ton or Metric Ton package required: Long Bed required, AW4 Transmission, H.D. Trans Cooler, H.D. Cooling, Power Steering and Brakes, Dana 44 axel, H.D. Springs, front and rear (3+2 on rear). May be more I am forgetting - can look at my window sticker. Trailer hitch, snow plow, front control arm drop brackets were not part of the Big Ton/Metric Ton package.
  5. This is a nice feature! Had mine for about 3 years.
  6. as awesome as that might sound, I'm very hesitant to go down that road because it takes more than money to make that happen. It requires work to set up, work to maintain, work to fix peoples problems, and a lot of responsibility on my shoulders to keep it all intact forever and ever. Yes, it is annoying when photos aren't in old threads, but for the most part google retains just about everything so you should be able to find anything important. as awesome as that might sound, I'm very hesitant to go down that road because it takes more than money to make that happen. PayPal money sent anyway <BG>
  7. Hey Pete, How much extra $$ will it cost to buy some space to host our own pictures? That way we don't loose pictures when Facebook or somebody else makes changes to their site. I am willing to kick in extra money for that.
  8. With enough time and money you can do just about anything. The question is why would you want to make your own shell/topper? You should be able to buy a used Comanche shell/topper for much less $$ and time than it will take to make one from scratch.
  9. Niagara Falls is a nice place to visit. Take the Maid of the Mist boat tour. Good up close view of the Canadian falls. You can take it from the American side without a passport. During the summer, they had a nightly fireworks display over the falls. Not sure about winter. We were there on July 4 several years ago and had dinner on the Canadian side on top of a 500+ft tall tower. Great view of all the American fireworks along the border. Know it is too late for this trip, but do spend the money to get a Passport and a Passport card. The Passport Card is good for land crossings at Canada and Mexico. I fits in my wallet just like my drivers license. Some nice places along the lake to have dinner, It has been 2 years since I was last in Buffalo for work. No other good reason to go to Buffalo I can think of.
  10. No you would not be first in line! It would be a stampede like in Saudi Arabia that killed 1400 people to buy the truck for less then $30K. But, both GM and Toyota are selling all the mid size trucks they can make - so do not expect decent pricing.
  11. I have been waiting for this diesel for quite a while. Don't think we are going to see much off MSRP for 6 months or more. Have also been looking at the Ram 1500 with the ecodiesel. Some good discounts on 2015 trucks that get the diesel cost down to $34K for the quad cab. Even less if you want to order a single cab work truck. The ZF 8 spd on the Ram gets excellent reviews. So does the 3.0 diesel, not to mention a 6 will be smoother than a big 4 cylinder, no matter how much you try to dampen out the vibrations on the 4. So the price of the Ram diesel will be the same or just a little less than the Colorado/Canyon, with the same/similar equipment and you can get the Ram diesel without all the bells and whistles of the high priced truck if you are willing to order it. Just something to think about. Yes, diesel is great for low end torque and for fuel economy. I drive a VW TDI every day for that reason. But the old gas Comanche keeps going and does 99.9% of what I need/want a truck for.
  12. Just to confirm: My 91 base truck has the 3 spoke steering was original equipment.
  13. For those of you who may think the VW 1.9 TDI engine does not/can not have enough guts for the MJ. I thought I would share the results of a turbo upgrade I just did on my 96 Passat. 160 horsepower and 285 lb/ft torque at the front wheel (not the flywheel) for an every day driver tune. Changed the turbo to a VNT turbo from the 170 hp factory engine from Europe - GTC1549VZ and up sized the injectors to match. The first tune was way to smoky for me, but produced 172 hp and 313 lb/ft of torque. The second tune with less fuel but still too much smoke = 165 hp and 303 lb/ft torque. Final street tune was developed after 6 or 8 runs on the dyno. Boost is set to a max of 24 psi on each of the tunes out of respect for the 20 year old pistons with 287K miles on them. Only fuel was changed to reduce smoke for the daily driver. Right now smoke is just about zero under full throttle. In the next few months, boost will be raised to 28 psi and fuel will be added with a goal of 180 hp and 330 lb/ft.
  14. I would look at this Honda CRV: http://gadsden.craigslist.org/cto/5243096577.html At $2K, the price is attractive for a 2007. But have to wonder if it seems too good to be true.
  15. No matter what the motivation, it is always a hard decision to move from home. Ohio in general has been a changing area for most of the last 30+ years. Like many places, old established employment patterns are changing. If I were much younger and in your place, I would rent out the house you have for at least a few years. Move to Colorado or another place and try it out. Rent a house where ever you land till you know you want to stay there. Then it is time to buy a house.
  16. From experience with a VW TDI... B20 performs similar to "normal" D2. BTU content of Bio is down a little bit (4%) from D2. Fuel lubricity is better with Bio/B20 than straight D2. In general, Biodiesel tends to swell injection pump seals after considerable use. Going back to 100% D2 after many many miles on Biodiesel can lead to leaky injection pumps. Note - many, many miles means many thousands of miles. B20 is generally an approved fuel by most/all manufacturers. On the down side, home made biodiesel can be full of contaminates and can vary from batch to batch. Not something I want to run in my TDI. Personally, I tend to stick with 100% D2, but not opposed to running a tank of B20 now and then in my car. Suspect you would notice more of a change if you went to straght B100. Perhaps that is what Bo noticed - B100 vs B20 There is a renewable diesel sold in California at Propel stations called HPR diesel. Not Biodiesel, but imported from Finland. Very high cetane value, about 98% btu content of D2. Reduces smoke by more than 30% (I have seen it in my car). Doesn't foam like normal D2 when you fill the tank - easier to top off the tank right to the top. I really like the ProPel HPR.
  17. Stock: 205 hp 368 lb/ft torque. Get it chip tuned: 235 hp & 415 lb/ft torque
  18. Local Pick your part lists a car door for $40 plus $3 core. When I wanted to replace the doors on my Comanche with full power windows/locks in factory white, with Laredo interior panels - I paid $100 per door. Everything worked, and I thought the price was fair.
  19. Girl Scout Cookies! Why my son was in Kosovo and Iraq - they went over really great!
  20. Pat, Here is his current Ebay listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/73-87-Chev-GMC-Reg-Cab-Truck-Headliner-Kit-Black-with-extra-for-Sunvisors-/171901988047?hash=item2806282ccf&vxp=mtr Why not contact him thru this listing and see what he can do for you.
  21. Pat, Here is the solution: http://comancheclub.com/topic/35290-comanche-headliners-i-found-a-great-supplier/ This guy gets great reviews. Don't waste your time on anything else. And you can buy from a fellow who supports our trucks! Not too many people making things for the Comanche, we need to support those who do such good work.
  22. Bo - post the link to the Fold forward conversion from the 95+ 2 door XJ seats being adapted to the Grand Cherokee seats. Also, you can do a bolt in conversion for the Grand Cherokee seats to the Comanche with some angle Iron and bolts. Did it in my truck for the driver seat. Well, Maybe not " bolt in". But I did use lots of bolts! Here is a link to another thread with more details and some pictures of GC seats in a Comanche, and a bunch of answers: http://comancheclub.com/topic/46762-zj-seats-bolt-on-for-mj-bucket-tracks/?hl=seats
  23. The 96 seats are not bolt in replacements. 1995 marked a change in how the Cherokee seats were mounted to the floor pan. You need to retain your Comanche seat brackets from the bench seat, no matter what. Because they fit the Comanche Floor Pan. I changed from a bench seat to buckets and found the buckets gave me a sore back. Then I read some posts here about fitting Grand Cherokee seats and some additional posts about how to convert the 4 door GC seats to fold forward for the Comanche or a 2 door Cherokee. So I fitted a Grand Cherokee seat in the truck - no more sore back - short trips or long trips. As for the pockets on the back of the seat - I had an upholstery shop ad the pockets to my bucket seats. And some Grand Cherokee seats have the the pockets from the factory.
  24. Wangonmaster has been around for quite a few years selling these things for just about that asking price. So it must pay,
  25. AutoZone still carries carburetor cleaner in gallon cans. So does Wally World. Saw it today. Thanks, gentlemen. Will have to pick up a can of it in the next week.
