Octane level doesn't seem to make any diff on MPG in the 2.5 or 4L. I notice a mileage diff based on load (200# or more it starts dropping), when driving into a wind (there have been times when traveling the 150 miles of I-84 along the Columbia the wind has cut my mileage by 1/3), and trying to stay with traffic flows. Heck, cans of "off the shelf" octane boosters have no effect either. Only 2 things give me improved mileage; driving like the lil ol lady & checking MPG going down hill only. :dunno:

Thank you guru gents, thats the info I was looking for. I think I'll pull the head have it rebuilt and standing by so "if needed" I can glue it to the best , compression wise, block I can find locally. An extra head on the shelf never hurts, esprcially when you run these things wide open to get up the hill or stay with traffic.

87 MJ w/2.5 & 4 spd just bit the dust. Has lots of miles on it, & the eng been for a couple years rattling bad fr timing chain & all other moving parts. It's wore out, as in dead. My question; what other year 2.5's long block will swap in (cherokee, wrangler, yj, etc.)without to much hassel. Like I don't want to be swapping ECU's etc. Would it be better to use a later short block and bolt on the 87 head (after rebuild) & other bracketry. The point being, this thing is a stock MJ & we want to keep it that way. But we need a repl to run in it while rebuilding the old 2.5 if its salvageable. Avidly awaiting adice of 2.5 CC tech guru's.

Such a pathetically true tale he do weave. One of my friends was told by a state agency that if she quit her job then they could put her in her own apt at our expense, so, she quit her job. What a sick society we are turning into. Whine & you can get it at someone else's expense.

This one is a lil cheaper than the one Wahoo pointed out: http://medford.craigslist.org/cto/894835770.html

I almost forgot, the old Willys I had was equiped with OEM PTO winch in front and an equipment drive pulley in the rear. You could operate a cycle mower, baler, rototiller, sawmill, manuer spreader or anything else that was belt driven. Had it's own trf case & drive shafts goin front & rear just like the old military trucks. Didn't have to get out other than hook-un up ,in the snow or worry about a power shortage when operating the equip. Did waste a few shear pins though trying to pull my self up some pretty steep hills. That was fun, pins goes and your free wheeling backwards down the hill. Their brakes were lacking. Two extra levers also taking up space in the lil cab. Orig had a 4 banger when I got it

You should buy it. Yrs ago I owned one of these with a 283 in it. Great lil wheeler for getting down in the canyons to pick up the game yuh just killed. Made it's own trails w/o much body damage and all the fenders were just bolt on anyways.

Filling coolant in a closed system
deziped replied to james750's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Screw that squeezing hoses & crap. Just dump it in the bottle, run it till it warm (not hot & boiling over), shut it off & go have a couple beers or watch a game. Pour more in bottle & do same. Make take a day or so, but whats the rush. When it quits sucking it in pour it half full & screw the lid on. No mess, no hassel, just lots of relaxzation.. -
Aahh, I see similiar sights every day at constructions sites, when I pass the the gas station where the the young lady (that terms loosely used) bends over to put it in, when people stock the grocery shelfs, when the fat boys up to bat (and not standing up straight to scratch himself), when my neighbors wife pulls the weeds (I think thats deliberate though cause she knows I'm there) , when I,m sitting behind people at a sporting event ( nice peanut shell repository), when the teen age kids pass my house (I guess they don't own belts anymore), when over-weight people overtake me in the mall wearing their little brother/sisters shirts (thats gastly). and lastly, when I,m at the fast food looking for a chair & fighting my way through aisle's around all the fat hanging out on exposed a--. Obviously the complainer doesnt get out much.

Filling coolant in a closed system
deziped replied to james750's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I fill the empty closed cooling system through a heater hose until it belches (won't take anymore) & then reconnect hose. I then fill the pressure bottle 3/4 full & drive around with THE CAP OFF until the temp get up to 170 - 180 & get back home & park it. I let it set until it cools down & sucks the pressure bottle empty (below the tube). I'll had more water & do the same thing again. After a couple times the system tops it self off & will quit sucking the bottle dry, so I again add fluid to an inch above the cold fill line and screw the cap on tight & drive it until it warms up to normal. If there's still fluid above the fill line in the bottle "after it finally cools down to cold", I did good. m2c, it not the quickest way but it works for me. -
This is a good writeup & pics for the DIY Project, Can anyone move it.

You didin't mention it but do you have an auto tranny? Is it starting out in 1st gear or 3rd? Maybe it's not engaging 1st when you come to a stop for some reason. MJ autos don't shift down on deceleration , per-say, to 2nd gear like a manual tranny from 3rd, or even to 1st unless you almost come to a complete stop & the solenoids are working properly. You can shift it manually from 3rd to 2nd gear at any speed & eventually it will slam into 1st with a jerk at about 32-35 MPH if the electronics are working as they should. Not knowing what your MJ has for loco motion it hard to discern what your problem might be. And if it not shifting down going up hill , probally solenoids again -
Take sum pics & postem up. May help someone else later on.

Damn that separation line between posts needs to be some-what darker & a 64th " wider. It's the s----'s, I keep reading 2 posts as one sometimes. I'm just a lil slow, guess I'll catch up shortly.

I was wrong about where that black piece separated. Not down at the chrome as I stated , but, the 2 black pieces separate as shown in the photo. This frees the switch so you can then pull the switch up aways to expose wires. Hope this helps. Image Not Found

Which of the 3 Jeeps are you working on? Some older GM stalks (the black piece/switch out on the end) came off by prying with a couple screw drivers. That black piece was only glued on the chrome stalk. However, I can't recall for sure but I thought the set button in the end of the thing had to be removed first. Hmm, maybe that ws to get inside of the switch. Anyways I recall breaking a small piece of the thing by prying to hard, but it went back together after I had resolder the wires in the thing. There's an article out there on it, I'll see if I can find it again. Think it pertained to a Fiero or Chevell.

Block off the EGR at the intake & run it.

Knock sensor???? Half of mine is somewhere on the garage floor. Acc. knocked it off ovr a year ago & didn't bother to look for it. MJ runs the same with or without it seems. :brows:

Your right Eagel. That was my earlier point about a right in vote. I feel dis-infranchised in this 2 party system. When enuf citizens start putting their vote toward other alternatives maybe some where down the road things can change. Lets just say for now, their protest votes.

This poll is restrictive, where is the "Other" block? I,m actually gonna do a write in.
