not sure where to post this
deziped replied to project88mj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Why don't you just look in the windshield at the VIN #. Or open the drivers door & check it. Look at the tenth digit in the VIN. G is an 86, H is 87, J is 88, K is 89, L is 90, M is 91, N is 92. Leters I & O were not used. :dunno: -
Dang (Curse slang), I guess I should start knocking the mud off my spare before I crank it up. Good 3 pounds o mud on it.
-
Okay, I feel better now after being corrected about the 2.8. Forget the swap, just polish & drive. :chillin: JP Magazine is doing the rebuild articles on the FS J series. Swapped in a 4.0 i THINK.
-
Out of couriousity how did a chunk of alligator get that far North?
-
GM 2.8???? Maybe thats why it's been parked cause that ain't enuf grunt to get it over the lil hills in BC. Oh well, I'd buy it anyways for that price. Slap a 350 easy swap in it, give it a lil spit & polish & take it for a cruise on the ferrys up there.

Fired up the MJ today & ran up I-5 50 miles & picked up a 242 to replace it's 231.

0 blue production line MJ's in my area. All I see is gray (2 shades), red, beige, white, and a black one in JY.

Fixed oil blow by but now......
deziped replied to Falder's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Normally oil blowing in reverse of it's intended route is caused by excessive pressure build up in the engine as a result of worn out parts such as Oil rings, valve seals, improperly seating valves, a clogged up CCV system, etc.. The CCV was not designed to do any thing more than suck out the vapors that accumalte in the engine. It was not designed to reduce pressure other than that as a consequence of removing the vapors. So be prepared to live with the results of blow-by back thru your breather pipe and , if it's excessive, out of your valve cover top and bottom. It's gonna continue until you alleviate the problem with a rebuild of something internal. :headpop: so it can't -
Out of couristy have you blocked off like 1/2 the air flow thru the radiator with a piece of cardboard to see if the temp would go up? I had a diesel once that was acting like your vehicle. All the guages, thermostat, etc. were working properly, but, the only way I ever got it up to heat was by cutting the air flow. Just left it in year around. No explanation of why it did it. :dunno:

Turn signal/Cruise control lever removal
deziped replied to flint54's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Maybe someone could move that writeup to DIY: http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopi ... =2&t=12508 -
Man I,m addicted to that Giradardilia (misspelled I think)) chocolate made in SF.. When it melts down to the caramel center your hooked.

The 86 is not a direct bolt in. Stay with a 91 to 95 and you'll have no problems using the exact same model trf case. Compare the tag (similiar to one shown below) on back of trf cases to get a match between Model & Serial #. Image Not Foundase.

WOW! That could turn into a Donner's Pass situation. Oh, you said you got lots o beer so your set anyways.

http://www.lesschwab.com/tires/light_tr ... okrto3.asp If your driving in rain you want a tire with tread specifically designed to expell water out from under the tread and siping helps also. But since she's going to be "occasionaly" driving on forest service roads which consist of goo mud to gravel to pavement. and sand to boot, I would suggest a tread similiar to that in the link above. It doesn'i have to be a name brand tire either. I live in So Oregon (want-a talk about rain and forest service roads) and have been driving in all those conditions from Crescent City CA to BC since before I was old enuf to get a license. All you need is a tire with a general purpose tread that provides a little bite in mud & sand and will reduce hydro-planing tendacies in rain. Any good all season tire will work also. It just boils down to driving technique and experience anyway. Slow your a-- down when it rains. Hey, anybody know where the dividing line is between N. & S. Calif, I've never been able to figure it out. Maybe San Jose!!!!!!!!!! :huh???:

canopys that fit on a comanche
deziped replied to comanche13's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Late 80's early 90's S10 or Ranger/Mazda canopys will work. Measure your box and compare (Take your tape with you when checking them out). -
Okay, I'll guess: $65,739.98

Anyone have kids with automotive inspired names?
deziped replied to dasbulliwagen's topic in The Pub
I had friends who always drove junkers. They always called their teen-age son Damn Junkie. -
Well, I have located this 242 for $100 I want to install. But he may swap me for my extra AW4 or 231 I have. Other than a new tail light I don't need a lot for it right now. But, you know jeeps, A guy better keep some extra change on hand for the unexpected. Or to buy the wife dinner if he screws up again.

Been busy cleanu=ing up my mess. Just my luck, the wife's friend pulls into the driveway to drop her off. One guess what the first thing is she see's. Comes in the house and wants to know who wrecked her car. I couldn't tell a lie. Ranted and raved about how I'm always telling her to look where she's backing, I'm the one who gets the speeding tickets, etc, etc.. After an hour and half of that she calmed down and then starts on this "Well we could get a new car now that that ones been damaged and lost it value". I'll listen to that crap for awhile and then start a counter program about, bad time to buy anything, more efficient cars are coming out next year, and blah, blah, blah. She'll get over it in time. By the way the insurance company wanted an estimate from the dealer, well, I'm glad to oblige them at $1650. Got it today & already emailed it & photos to them. I can get a new fender for $175, will scrounge a little paint from a vendor, I have primer hardener & clear coat on hand. Gonna pocket the difference. YaHoo.

when she sees what I did to her car when I backed out of the garage. If I'm lucky maybe she'll run down to the market and then I can discover it as "Gee, looks like someone hit your car while you were at the store". Probally a slim chance at that one though. No power when starting on a hill
deziped replied to hogelectra's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Smash it to the floor & pop the clutch in ist gear. If it's more than a 3 % hill don't expect to shift to 2nd. Thats the nature of the 2.5, they gutless. The easy cure to alleviate this problem is use it as trading material to upgrade to a 4L MJ. It's usually less expensive than spending cash on gears or engine swaps.
