In the past I've built adjustable quick disconnect links using rod ends and all-thread. Worked great.

Radesigns Rail Controller
Darren replied to 88mancheman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had the original version of the RADesigns Rail Shifter in a 94 XJ. I loved it, and several other people I know have ran it and they feel the same way. I'd recommend reaching out to Rory at RADesigns about what your situation is and what you'd like to accomplish. Don't mention my name though, he's not a big fan of mine. -
Life is very busy. I work full-time, travel at least 10 weeks a year, I have a wife and two children, I’m remodeling our 100 year old home, we have 13 animals, I have a podcast, and my biggest waste of time is I am commissioner of my fantasy football league. So when three separate people sent me the same ad for two broken MJs that were 4 hours from me, I should know that I don’t have time for that at all. So here’s what I bought. A mildly built 88 longbed with a blown-up transmission (pukegoat) in a box in the bed and some random parts pulled from under the hood, and the second MJ is a 92 longbed 4.0l 5-speed 4x4 that is absolutely beat to hell. I paid $1200 for both trucks. I got very little info from the seller before showing up in Winnemucca Nevada with two trailers. My buddies and I loaded them up and dragged them home. My my original plan was to fix the 88 and sell it to fund a nice build on the 92. Once I saw the trucks in person I knew instantly that wasn’t going to happen. I got the tucks home and came up with a new plan. The new plan is to combine the best parts of both Jeeps to build one truck. Two Jeeps one truck. This still ends with me getting an HO MJ, I just have to tear two trucks apart and then assemble one from scratch. Sounds like just what I needed in my already busy life. I’ve missed you guys so much though, and I know it was probably hard on you all while I was gone. Don’t worry guys, I’m going to be back for awhile now.

The plan for this truck is to cut it up and scrap it. It’s a 92 4.0l 5-speed 4x4 longbed. I had some more time this evening so I was able to remove the entire harness and all the interior pieces. All I have left to do is pull the drivetrain then I’m going to cut the truck into pieces that will fit on my trailer and scrap it.

Of all the sh*tty vehicles I've owned, this is the only one I regret selling. I regret it every day.

I would have went with Trucklites.

Thank you for posting this. -
I haven't logged on to the site for a while and I noticed today under my name it says "0 warning points". Somehow I don't have any, but I also don't see this on anyone else's avatar. Just wondering what this is and how it works.

2" in front is about as low as you can go without any other modifications.

Rear Main Oil Pan Question.
Darren replied to 1992EliminatorSWB4x4's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The last few times I've done it on stock height MJ/XJs I've just pulled the whole axle and dragged it out of the way. It's a messy PITA job and I like the extra room so I can make sure it's done right. Pulling the entire axle doesn't add any extra time to the job. This is all assuming you're doing this on your garage floor or driveway. -
Thanks Bo.

Don't buy a 4-banger MJ. There isn't much (if any) difference in price between 4 and 6 cylinder trucks. The 4.0 makes more power yielding similar fuel economy, so why buy a four banger? Never buy a 4 cylinder thinking you may swap in the 4.0 later. It's not worth the time or money when you could have bought one to begin with

WRZ's comanche Now the 96 od2 swap in progress

Very nice truck. I like it a lot. -
I've always ran cheap 10-30 in several AX-15s and had zero issues.
-
It was also used on SNL recently.

My '88 Mj Streetable Autocross / Road Racer Build
Darren replied to yellaheep's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I lowered an MJ also, with similar goals to yours. As far as lowering the front is concerned, the biggest issue if, keeping factory mounts and geometry, are the upper control arm mounts. I lowered mine as much as possible and dropped the lowers the same amount. This allowed me to shorten the bumpstops and lower the truck further. Even with a custom tracbar, notched axle, and relocated axle mounts, the axle mounts would contact the motor mount and or unirail preventing me from dropping it any further. This was at 3-3.5" of drop on 2wd springs. Here's a few pictures to give you an idea of what I did. I hope this helps. There's a build thread on here named George. It was a fun truck, I miss it. -

Yeah, I built that rear bumper a long time ago. It was the first bumper I ever built, it was stupid simple. -
Nice write up, but using stock control arms is a terrible idea. I've seen stock control arms fail on the trail several times. Including both stock uppers fold like a taco on an XJ with drop brackets and aftermarket lowers. Using the factory lowers with drop brackets is just asking for failure. If your now extra low hanging control arms ever touch anything, they will fold. Drop brackets and factory control arms are okay if you ONLY drive on the street. Even then I wouldn't do it, but that's just me.
