  1. May the Lord help them overcome, my prayers are with you both.
  2. Clint Eastwood as Dirty Harry used to say a man has to know his limitations, well I know mine. I frankensteined the old unit to the newer JY unit and now my fuel guage works in reverse! That was the deciding factor for me to get another JY unit and send it to the guys in the link.
  3. I came accross this company that rebuilds sending units, I am not sure of what they charge but I will be buying another JY unit and send it to these guys. http://www.tristarrradiator.com/Foreign ... 0Page.html
  4. You are correct it was the pump, I removed the old one from the old leaking housing and it works like a charm. I suspect this will be a headache for others in the near future.
  5. Just got the new (JY) fuel pump assembly installed and filter. Now when I drive over 2500 RPMS on the freeway or up a hill it starts to cut out and buck. In my experience if the fuel pump is bad it usually works or doesn't, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated I hate the Mother-in-laws little car :ack:
  6. Thanks Mike  Sounds like another well worth while JY safari! As I recall the earlier pumps polarity is the reverse of the later model but I am not sure the year breakdown. I quickly paid the $125 asking price at JW because my truck is my DD and I have my Mother-in-Laws toyota corolla (which I hate). These things are becoming scarce and most of us don't realize it until we need one.
  7. According to my 91 parts manual the senders are the same for all 91 MJs, there is no differentiation between engines. Same goes for the pump, so it should work just fine. Thanks Don  these things are getting very hard to find I hope some after market company steps up as I have heard a few of us ask where they could be bought and this is my 3rd unit. The first died to rust, the second cracked at the hose nipples, and hopefully the 3rd from JW wreckers will be the last.
  8. Well my second fuel pump assembly cracked and puked fuel down the side of the tank, I have called every junk yard in the country (I think we all know the new airtek is for a cherokee). I found a 1991 but it is from a 4 cylinder. Does anyone know if the 1991 4 cylinder will work in the 1991 4.0 liter six? The fellows at JW's are saying yes but I thought folks here might have better knowledge. TIA
  9. I can't let this one go, especially since you offered...so tell us, how do you know? I only ask because I hate clocksprings, especially the ones in small 2 and 4 cycle engines that use recoil starter assemblies. I've been owned more than once by them..... please share your experience with them, so I can laugh at someone else's misfortune other than mine, for once ;) Jeff Well, the one that I finally decided to try and repair had been jammed by the PO, and after examining it for awhile I drilled out the 5 rivets surrounding the edge of the case, grasped both halfs and pulled hard. The damn clock spring emerged from all sides of the newly created opening and several loops actually sprang right out at my face. Having no idea that the thing was possessed and wanted to slice my nose off (or worse), I abruptly yelled everyone's favorite adjective and threw it towards the ground, which only caused the evil spring to expand even further. When it finally finished flopping around like a beached fish, I grasped it firmly and finished the eviseration. After carefully examining the parts, I noted the clock spring had been contained in a steel circle that had several pieces of steel across it. I re-seated the bent end of the spring, and then proceeded to cut the $h!t out of my fingers trying to feed it back into the "cage". Eventually, I managed to restrain it in the correct position, which could be compared to herding cats. Compared to that feat, the rest of the re-assembly was anticlimatical. Now that I have done it, I will gladly re-build anyone's underhood light that wants me to do so, but understand when I tell you I will wrap the damn thing in a blanket first when I take it apart.... I have a factory light, but have found Chevy pickups use a extendable light on a cord that is long enough to walk all the way around the rig. It's much smaller, has a magnetic base and has a handle on it to roll it back up. It mounts to the fender and has a switch on it to turn it on and off. It also has a swinging latch to hold the light in place and any junkyard should have one. :brows: I use the Chevy light and two mercury style underhood lights. The mercury lights are mounted about two feet apart so they light both sides of the engine bay. X2 on the Chevy light, I have couple of the Stock Jeep (Ford) lights in my garage that do not retract very well.
  10. Outstanding truck! Put a sticker in the window and it would look like it did at the Dealership 21 years ago!
  11. That is great work Mike! I wonder if this company http://yhst-97102109552530.stores.yahoo ... nting.html might build some of those toy trucks you made? If it was financially feasible I know I would buy a few. It looks like they need at least a 150 minimum order.
  12. I am 30 miles East of San Francisco if you run into any problems here in the Bay Area I am happy to help.
  13. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2226&hilit=bed+bolt+locations Check the links in Pete's post 2nd one hopefully will help.
  14. New RE 3.5 springs to go with Hell Creek rear springs (like Brent's MJ), Crowne Rebuilt calipers, and new Citizen watch. Merry Christmas everyone!
  15. I used the IPF's and Magic bulbs, and the BigOffroad harness http://www.quadratec.com/products/97017_600.htm They work well except they aren't "DOT", As I recall I think the Hella's are DOT for those that have State inspections it might matter.
  16. How right you were, check the link now $7,995
  17. 30 cent discount. But $1.51 is still cheap. Heck I was paying $1.51 for premium in King City California in 1984!
  18. If all else fails and you have XP I find the "restore point" to be quite effective. If you do not install a lot of applications it restores registry settings to the date you choose depending on your hard drive space. You just need to make sure that the date you choose isn't before you installed an application once you restore it will be gone.
  19. Read my post above. The one you're looking at is only 2 HP, mine is 3 HP and can't keep up. Notice that they conveniently do NOT give you any specs on how many cfm this "gem" produces, and that's the critical spec that determines whether or not it'll keep up with your tools. Look for a spec on "Standard Cubic Feet per Minute" or "SCFM." If they don't tell you -- be VERY suspicious. Heck, it's a single stage. I believe that means, in compressor lingo, one cylinder. Ain't no way a 1-cylinder, 110-volt compressor is going to keep up with an air grinder. And I don't believe for one moment it's made in the USA. Pretty much all compressors today are made in China, and it doesn't matter whose name is on it. I may be wrong, but I don't think so (in this instance). Eagle, Here are some better specs http://www.aircompressorsdirect.com/Ing ... /p684.html I must admit I am a newbie but from my research 4 CFM at 90 PSI is allegedly adequate to run an air grinder this one rates 4.9 at 90 PSI 6 at 40 PSI. If there is a better USA made compressor I would love to hear what folks recommend. I am not as lucky as Don ;) to have all that power available, the wife's tanning bed and our A/C take up all my available 220 multiphase slots.
  20. I have been eying this one when I get my vacation payout. http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/ ... _200339041 It is pricey but uses 110 V and can power just about any tool you throw at it and it is made right here in the USA!
  21. http://www.jpmagazine.com/featuredvehic ... index.html I believe his name was John Hubbard, and there used to be a YJ fellow by that name that ran a diesel on jeepsunlimited but I do not know for sure if they are the same guy.
  22. Well I have three of those Jeep (Ford) retractible lights and none of the connectors is the same as my old underhood lamp connector on my 1991.
  23. Yep those are the ones I installed in my truck, work great!
  24. Don's DIY is excellent, here is a discussion for those that might want black trim instead of chrome. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=12251
