  1. Well my OEM muffler started rattling and then started to sound like a duck farting in water. Not a big deal I ordered a Walker OEM replacement 21385 for the 91-92 4.0. In all this fun though I noticed a fairly large power increase with the busted muffler. The RPM's go up must faster, better throttle response. When the muffler was quiet I had to apply a lot more throttle to get the RPM's to move up, I guess my question is when I put the OEM Walker back in will I lose power? :dunce:
  2. That is one giant labor of love you got there  Awesome before and after pics.
  3. Outstanding Don! That is the steel one correct? Your shop did a great job on the paint well matched and very smooth.
  4. I just read something about that in JP, apparently ATK will be making the engines or something like that. Ya, I haven't heard good things about ATK engines in the past. i wonder where they will be sourcing their blocks/cranks from? I have only found a few things bad about them, I wonder if others have any experience with ATK? http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/0/2 ... 281289.htm

  6. currently and the last 9 years 20 miles each way against the commute Before 11 years 5 miles 2 years 70 miles each way that really sucked but it was in 1987-89 traffic was much lighter.
  7. Mike,That is a great story! I know how hard it was to find these trucks in this area, and the fact that you searched it out (and the other two you own now) shows me how much you love these trucks. I had the opportunity to pick one up in 88 and also being a poor college graduate paying off loans I couldn't swing the loan. Congrats on your trucks 19th.
  8. Mike, Did you buy it at a dealership in the Bay Area? I remember seeing almost no MJ Comanches at the dealer in Vallejo after about 1988. Perhaps because numerically more were made from 86-88?
  9. Excellent work Mike! They even match your pup!
  10. I remember Don , I think a reason for the tuneout of younger folks is a lot of the younger folks watch things like UFC (Ultimate Fighter) and have tuned out of professional boxing. (At least in my family they have and I attribute Pay Per View to be a large cause) I do remember some of the great matches for example with Ray (Boom Boom) Mancini, and his nemesis Aaron Pryor in a different weight class. All excellent and perhaps some of the best Feather-weight to Light weight boxing in history. I am an old boxing fan from the late 60's to late 80's, after that (and the birth of PPV)I kind of tuned out myself. I feel fortunate to have been able to watch Arguello, Ali, Norton, Frazier, Foreman, Leonard, Robinson, early Tyson, Hearns, Hagler, and others along with Howard Cosell hosting. I feel that SPIKE T.V. has stepped up offering folks free entertainment in UFC (although in my opinion it isn't a sport) where as any longer boxing is a thing of PPV. I do long for the days of ABC's wide world of sports!
  11. As I recall that was on Ebay a few years back and the location was somewhere around Los Angeles. Very Cool though.
  12. Maybe a reality show is in order call perhaps "The Douchebags of Craigslist" I see a lot of potential on CL, they could target tire kickers rip off artists and such ;) It's too bad it couldn't become a thread on a board as with personal information being illegal to post, and without a "handle" there really wouldn't be a way to track such individuals.
  13. That is why many of us out here call it "dregslist" Holy pesky tire kicker! I use craigslist for some sales but all too often a guy like this shows up looking for something for nothing. My dream is to one day sell one of these characters an abolute POS product for bottom $$ Watch him drive away in a car he thought he bought for a steal and have the wheels fall off. :rotf:
  14. Vehicle Registration Fee Calculator Transaction Date: June 21, 2009 Type of Calculation: New California Vehicle Purchase Type of Vehicle: Off Highway Vehicle Purchase Date: June 20, 2009 Purchase Price: $20,000.00 County: Contra Costa Zip Code: 94519 Current California Highway Patrol: 8.00 Current Off Highway Vehicle Fee: 33.00 Current Off Highway Vehicle Service Fee: 7.00 Current Off Highway Vehicle License Fee: 4.00 Use/Sales Tax: 1,850.00 Total Registration Fees: $52.00 Total Use/Sales Tax: $1,850.00 Grand Total Registration Fees: $1,902.00 If you purchase a new vehicle in Contra Costa County California, the above is what it will cost for registration. They can take those fees and stuff them were the sun doesn't shine, out here the State is undoing (raising taxes) any kind fo tax break or incentive offered by the Feds. I know cash for clunkers out here will not really save anyone any money. I suspect most folks out here will be keeping their clunkers, I know I will!
  15. First got an in inkling of Jeep itch in 1968 when Clint Eastwood drove an old CJ-6 in Coogan's Bluff. In 1971 my Scout leader had a Jeep J4000 that took us on camping trips all over California which also added to the itch. In 1974 were stationed at Subic Bay Naval Base in the Philippines, where I got even more exposure to Jeeps. I got to drive an old Kaiser Duece and a quarter with that granny gear, man oh man what a rush that was. An old retired Marine had access to an old retired USMC Mighty mite which was an absolute joy to drive for its age that had to be one of the most awesome Jeeps I ever got to drive. I first set eyes on a Comanche in 1987 when I was in the market for a pickup. My family owned a Nissan Dealership, and I was pricing an MJ 4 cylinder 4X4 against a Nissan pickup. In the end I couldn't get the credit I needed for the MJ so I went with the 1987 Nissan. I kept following the MJ and always wanted an Eliminator, but could never afford one over the years. I kicked myself in the behind ever since and then in in 1997 I bought a brand new Grand Cherokee for the wife, and in 1998 a Jeep Wrangler for myself. In 2005 I happened upon a 1991 4X4 Eliminator with the D44 from Ohio, and I had a little bit of money in my savings made an offer and I never looked back.
  16. Excellent! Re-establishing funding for the Comanche addiction should lead to some new mods. I can hardly wait to see more in your build thread.
  17. When it rains it pours! Congratulations  I read somewhere that G.M. might be heading out of BK earlier than Chrysler, what a tough choice you have, either way the dealership you choose will have a top notch counterman.
  18. Good luck Brent! A top notch old school counter man you are!
  19. A "spaghetti" Jeep ?
  20. Great, Keep the Jeep name and kill the wrangler (I am assuming this since I do not see it on the list). With Hummer sold off to a Chinese company, and G.M. also BK I can't imagine Ford wanting to buy the rights to the Jeep Wrangler.
  21. I am anxious to see what Fiat considers "most valuable assets".
  22. Eggzakerly right. Makes you wonder why the AMC/Mopar engineers didn't design the tank baffle plate so the MJ and XJ sending units were interchangable in the tanks. The hardest sender of all to find is the 91-92 MJ-specific HO sending units mainly because there were less of the MJ HOs manufactured. But at least by then the MJ and XJ shared the same pump regardless of engine size, and the MJ tanks were standardized, so there was only one HO MJ sending unit. I found a new sender on Ebay by doing an advanced search using the correct factory part number. The guy had no idea what the sender fit, but did include the p/n in the description. There are many many sellers on Ebay that sell NOS parts on Ebay and are clueless as to what they fit. So, ascertain the correct factory part number of what you need, and do an advanced search on Ebay motors for it. And with all the Chrysler dealers going belly-up and selling off all their NOS parts, sooner or later they'll show up on Ebay. Prolly be plenty of MJ tail light assemblies showing up too. I guess by 1983-4 the AMC designers weren't as efficient as in the Brooks Stevens day of reusing parts for different models and applications.
  23. Glad to help  If you are going to wheel a lot take into consideration what Pete said about the YJ front brake lines, and the 1995 Dakota rear brake line.
  24. According to others particularly Don (hornbrod) use the N40L for the rears which is the Grand Cherokee shock. I used this for my Hellcreek 3 inch rears, but I used the RE 3.5 inch springs in the front (Like Brent's BLHTAZ ride) with the OME N35. If you get springs longer than the OME 2 inch you might consider the N35L. Sounds like great choices you have made, you might also want to consider an adjustable trackbar.
  25. You might give these guys a call, there are a lot of us that have tried a number of vendors to get a replacement. In case you are not aware the Airtex is simply the Cherokee unit which does not fit the Comanche tank. http://www.fuelsender.com/fuel_send.html Don (Hornbrod) got lucky and found a brand new NOS unit on ebay, I know there is a renix unit at JW autowreckers. If you go that route you will need to replace the fuel pump, I went that route and wound up with a renix unit in my HO instrumentation. :fs1: It now reads the fuel reading backwards.
