  1. Over to the right of your line with the red outline there is a 90 degree fitting coming out of a black box, about 2-3 inches over from the end of your line, might it go there? I noticed another vacuum line coming from that box. :dunno:
  2. There are lot's of threads related to the vacuum system, many folks do away with it and use a device called posi-lok which is a manual system. http://www.4x4posi-lok.com/app_jeep.html
  3. Very nice rig with a lot of potential, the XLS is the first MJ that got me interested in these trucks. There is a wealth of information on upgrading to a 3.4L on this board to compensate for the lacking of a 2.8. Do you have the full time 4WD or the part time? http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_L8BTRutV0uk/S ... d+1986.jpg And welcome to the club!
  4. Calipers are brand new from Wagner Joe. New front hoses too. I looked hard for shiny spots on all the pad/knuckle/caliper mating surfaces and saw nothing. All the new stuff I put on has done absolutely nothing to get rid of the cold morning squeeling. Brakes are much better now though and most of the stuff I replaced was original, except for the rotors and pads. :D Like I said, the noise is over in a block or so, but I just want to get rid of it. It bugs me. Know what I mean Vern? :D Don,Did they squeel before you upgrade your 96 brake MC? Verne wants to know.... :D
  5. Don,It sounds like the problem is definitely metalurgical to me since the brakes sqeak when the caliper and rotors are "cold" and hence retracted (sitting overnight), and then they quiet down when the caliper, pads and rotors are hot (expanded). Could it be the "auto adjustment" on your calipers? How old are those calipers?
  6. I wish I had taken a picture of my cheap OEM immitation muffler that literally was falling apart after only 4 years. I went with a Walker, but I am certain any name brand FlowMaster, Cherry Bomb would outlast the cheapy immitations. :rotf: :rotf: 4 years out of a muffler is GREAT where you aren't in sun and smog for 300+ days a year. Wet weather and road salt do a real number on them. I generally get about 2 and a half to 3 years out of one. I got a Holley Red Hots from Farm and Fleet(the other half of that partnership) for 20 bucks for my ZJ. Sounds pretty good on the 5.2. But I didnt really like the sound on the 4.0L. The tone was too flat. Yes no salt out here in California (except on a Margarita) where an OEM or name brand muffler has lasted me as much as 15 years, I would imagine in your area where the conditions are so harsh a name brand replacement would be essential if you wanted or cared if a muffler lasts or not.

  8. When I had my GC with selectrac I remember reading threads like this about unbinding it. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=6073514
  9. There was a color in 1991 called black cherry pearl coat, that I have been wanting to see if it could even be purchased any longer. Philberts numbers are on the money from every professional (non chain) paint shop I have checked out. $6,000 plus the reflexxion hood is where I would love to get to, putting it in perspective with all the labor one could also buy and install a tricked out stroker like Don's (hornbrod). I think I got my dreams all squared away, but it's the money part that screws things up.
  10. What makes you think it is stuck in 4WD? Is your front end binding?
  11. Thanks Don, no more cheap junk for me with lifetime warranty's!
  12. I had a clogged cat in my pre-stroker MJ. It would overheat going up long grades and in traffic. Hopefully a new one will cure your problem. Thanks Don, I got a good deal on the 50 State legal Magnaflow and my smog inspection is up next month so I figured why not just replace anyway. Replaced everything and now I have power and quiet, but the darn thing still got hot at idle, replaced the thermostat and bingo all is good! On another note I just replaced the thermostat/waterpump, and radiator in January so I am assuming cheap Carquest/Kragen Chinese made thermostat? Where do folks buy from to avoid such crappy made things?
  13. If only Tommy Chong (of Cheech and Chong fame) used your carefull choice of words when he got busted and did time for marketing such a device. :chillin:
  14. Did you just take out the front shaft or what? Rob L. They kept the shaft intact, we drove it in 2WD for almost 3 years and no issues. I asked the Dealership why do you advertise "full time 4WD" and then tell us not to use it? Of course I got no response. In 1998 around here it rained almost every day in Spring until June 30 so we used the "full time option" a lot. Do you think maybe there could be an issue with your 4WD disconnect keeping you in 4WD without the light going on? Rob(and I) have NP 249 T-cases.... No 4wd disconnect or 2wd mode and no lights come on when the VC locks in. I think you must have had a NP242 T-case. The 249 uses a viscous coupler to lock itself in 4wd. Pretty much a crappy system as the stupid VC wears out and permantly locks itself in 4wd and you are stuck with it. You are correct it had the 242, I have read about the "viscous coupler issues" in the 249's, good luck getting it back in shape

  16. Its not completely seized... it works, I don't have any unusual wear showing excessive tire scrub, normal turns are ok. The only time it is noticeable is when I have to cut it hard to get into a parking spot. I wouldn't think I would be able to run without a front D/S without having a 242. I am just looking for reasons why the ZJ would have just ate 2 bearing sets since I have owned it(1 front and 1 rear). Maybe its just common is these ZJ axles? :dunno: I know they arent exactly known for strength. Rob L. I had the same setup on our 97 GC and had the same issues. I was told by Chrysler in 1998 and 1999 that I shouldn;t be driving it in full time 4wd. The bearings where replaced under our extended warranty twice and when I just drove it in 2WD I didn't have a problem until we sold it in 2002. :dunno:
  17. You are way blessed, my wife and I are looking at retiring to horse country somewhere in the next 10 years. Right now central Texas is in the top running (my family originally came from Texas), but there are wonderful horse properties all over the Southern Uniited States that we are eyeing that are blessed.

  19. Appreciate the responses so far, so I am buying a new cat, muffler, and fan clutch. I will let folks know this weekend if it helps.
  20. Thanks for the replies, it is a 1991 and has the fan shroud, there doesn't appear to be air in the system with the overlow bottle at good levels. Don, that is about when I noticed the hot temps. If the cat is clogged I didn't think the truck would run or run really bad?
  21. I replaced my radiator and water pump a few months ago when the temp got hot at freeway speeds, now she runs nice and cool on the freeway, but when I exit the freeway and idle she is starting to get towards 230. I noticed the A/C fan going on, so I am suspecting the problem is the fan clutch? :dunno: I went ahead and bought the ZJ HD 4.0 liter fan clutch without the max/cool option any other ideas? Thanks!
  22. Billy Joel in Piano Man, too funny!
  23. mnkyboy, I am stuck with the Walker replacement so I will look into the high flow cat, the laws changed here Jan1 so most of them now say 49 state legal :ack: Don you are right this place has a bunch of Natzi's making the rules.
  24. They cherry bomb option sounds intriguing because this new power is really giving me the power I expected before I bought the truck. The only mods I have are the 62 MM TB, and an AirRaid filter, but what a ride! Don, I don't think California would allow me to replace the cat with a cherry bomb. I can't begin to imagine the power you have with all this and the 4.6L
  25. Thanks guys! I love the power but I am a 48 year old man who will be labeled as someone having a middle aged crisis if I got a performance muffler that is that loud. ;)
