  1. Don't blame you on that. Just didn't realize you were wanting to spend that much $$ I guess. Hope you found someone who has them on the shelf as they are on nationwide backorder from Superior at the moment... Thanks for the headsup! They are on back order with no ETA, so I went with the ALY12135 instead.
  2. Thanks, Lead_not_follow The alloy axles look like a great deal as well, but I already ordered the Superior's with a lifetime warranty. "AXLE; D44 JEEP CHROME-MOLY LH [PA6170CS] Superior PA6170CS is a premium 4340 chrome moly axle shaft designed by the engineers at Superior Axle and Gear to strengthen the rear Dana 44 axle assembly in 1997 - 2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ & Wrangler Unlimited. This quality axle shaft works with drum and disc brakes and features both a 5X5.5 and a 5X4.5 bolt pattern to fit your wheels. This is the short left hand axle (driver side). Please reference part PA6170CL for the right hand side or EV45 for the complete rear axle kit. Superior's Evolution Series rear axle shafts are made in the USA and are designed with the serious competitor in mind. They feature rolled splines for longer life and proprietary heat treating. Superior axles are competition tough and will stand up to the punishment of today's off-road vehicles. Evolution rear axle shafts come with Superior's standard lifetime warranty." I didn't get the wheel studs, bearings or seals included, but all in all it looks like a pretty good deal unless I am missing something.
  3. I agree with the others! With the absence of the Wagoneer I vote4 for the 97 +
  4. Thanks CW I was thinking of getting these Part #PA6170CS AXLE; D44 JEEP CHROM-MOLY LH Part #PA6170CL REAR AXLE; D44 JEEP CHROMOLLY RH They are the Chrom-moly shafts and go for $200 a piece direct from the superior axle website. Just out of curiosity do they require special bearings or seals or is the standard Timkin kit good enough? Thanks again! Joe
  5. Hello All, My rear axle seal is puking oil, it is the second one in three years, the PO installed them backwards when it did this three years ago because the axle was bent. :clapping: I had the machine shop straighten it out and press the bearing in properly. It looks like it was only a temp cheap fix so I am wondering the best place to buy new axles? I am open to upgrading them too. Thanks in advance! Joe
  6. I'll keep an eye out as I also feel the selectrac XJ or 4.0 selectrac ZJ are ideal for safety especially for a new driver. Keeping an eye out is easy for me these days as I continue to search for a car for my wife.
  7. Eagle, Saw this 2001 on ebay 77,000 miles auto with what looks like a selectrac transfer case 20th picture down. As I recall my wife's selectrac had green and yellow on the shifter plate, and it looks like that one does to. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2001-Jee ... 20b05a8a18
  8. Sorry for your loss! I am not an attorney, but assuming you got the CARFAX and it showed no owners, it sounds like she may have violated the contract, but the issue would be around damages. What kind of dollar amount could you paint for a court that this unscrupulous person caused you? As for pain and suffering I think a fellow with the quote "self appointed President for life of the MJ Preservation Society" might get you something with the right jury. ;)
  9. When I got my JP a few days ago I read this story with great interest. It really gave me some insight about what kind of a man the late President was. http://www.jpmagazine.com/featuredvehic ... index.html He was a hands on guy that did much of his maintenance work himself, and he used a 1962 CJ6 to do it! Absolutely great story
  10. Happy Easter to all! Its pork roast with sauerkraut, wine, coconut cake, my parents and my wife's mother and her husband.
  11. I showed her the bluetec E320 and she is considering it, and Sir Sam you must have read her mind the next question was I hear diesel's all the time and hate the "click click click". Her next question is "Does it have some giddy up and go". Keep in mind her previous cars were an 80's V8 Z-28, and 80's V8 Cadillac Ed Dorado (I think), a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4.0, and the 1998 Mercedes SL500 with the 318 HP V8. I was delirously happy with the Grand Cherokee, but it didn't have the "giddy up and go" she came to love with her previous vehicles. From my research I found that the 2009 Cadillac CTS does 0-60 in 6.6 and a 1/4 mile in 16.9, the 2009 E320 came in at 0-60 in 7.9 and a 1/4 mile 16 seconds. To get to the $30,000-$35,000 in the Mercedes we would need to go back to 2007. On Monday we will be "test driving both models" so as you can see it will be a toss-up! I'll keep you guys posted!
  12. We love our 1998 SL 500, it has been a quality car, and I wouldn't doubt wifey would love a newer MB but I don't think she would ever accept the smell of a diesel.
  13. Thanks for the tip jeepcomj! comanche09 as it is we are looking to buy a 2009 used which can be had with all the bells and whistles for as little as $33,000 with low mileage. Used CTS-V still goes for over $50,000 which would be way out of our price range, and to be honest I would not trust my wife in a vehicle that goes from 0-60 in 4.0 seconds
  14. Thanks again everyone I am checking things out and the new CTS is really getting a lot of great reviews. As for a Diesel If anyone in the family is getting one that would be me in the form of a Dodge 2500 :D , but that won't be until retirement time hopefully they will still make them in 2016.
  15. Thanks Gents! She does have her mind made up, and we do have an agreement where I won't buy another Jeep but she can't complain that I spend money on my Comanche. My whine is that if she buys the Cadillac I will be on the hook for it running smoothly  I am proud as an American that the Cadillac got such high marks, but I am bummed that if they do not live up to their promises I will be on the hook to making her happy :ack:
  16. Hello Rob, I totally agree except that the newest MB's reliability ratings aren't that great according to JD Powers. I know it is hard to beleive but the Cadillac CTS received an 8/10 while the Nissan and others have scored less. I llooked at an older S500 and the best years we can get an acceptable realibility rating is a 2004 when they still made them in Germany.
  17. The time has come for my wife to buy a new car, she has looked at many luxury cars and chose the Cadillac CTS. She currently has a 1998 Mercedes SL500 which has given us eight trouble free years. The Nissan Maxima has a reliability rating from JD power of 6, and then Toyota's ratings currently are a disaster. I would love to hear opinions from folks I trust!
  18. That would be great to have our own "In memoriam" dedicated to such people
  19. All I can say is WOW! That gentleman deserves something more so other lovers of AMC and Jeep appreciate his life long AMC/Jeep accomplishments. If it is OK with his family do you think we might have a section in comancheclub dedicated to such Jeep legends? We could post up the pics that Automan got from his shop and maybe from the April 10 get together? I am certain that there will be others deserving to be chronicled in that section as time passes. It could be our tribute to folks that gave their life and soul to jeeps.
  20. Unfortunately it is 1975 :ack:
  21. Actually sometimes they don't last for life. Sometimes because of constantly filling your gas tank all the way to the top, fuel will flow into the canister thru the gas tank return line saturating the charcoal. There is a vacuum operated built-in purge valve that is supposed to prevent this, but the fuel will gum it up over time. This can cause excess fuel tank pressure, a gas smell in the cab, and of course high HC readings on your smog test. Most emissions systems have a separate purge valve you can replace (the ZJs do), but you have to replace the whole canister in our rigs. I replaced my canister awhile back because of the gas smell, and it took care of it. Don, Funny enough you have convinced me that in addition to failing the smog test that I need a new canister as whenever I fill my gas tank to the top there is a gas smell in the cab, if it wasn't for the good food out here in Vallejo Ca I would be outta here! My wife and I aren't huge fans of snow and she has arabian horses so it would be the horse country for us.
  22. Thanks again Don! I am would not be surpised if they were mixed up parts in as we have found in the past. For most of the other 49 states these canisters aren't an issue because they are supposed to last the life of the vehicles (except for here in CA.)
  23. Thanks a million Don that is the one I will buy! The odd thing is, it looks exactly like the charcoal canister in the first link I gave which was out of a 1988 MJ. Was there a difference from the RENIX Jeeps and Chrysler HO Jeeps?
  24. Well, it is that time of year and I failed my California smog inspection. The shop says I need to replace the charcoal canister on my fuel system which looks like this. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2549&hilit=charcoal+canister But the only replacements I can find shows the 1991-1996 to be different and look like this. http://www.teamgrandwagoneer.com/parts/ ... d/793.html As you might notice the neck of the canister of the gray one is much thicker than the black alleged 1991-1996 replacement. I can't seem to find another part number, is there something I am missing here? I know this won't apply to many folks because they aren't subject to a bunch of persnickety smog laws but any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Joe
  25. Spencer from Jeepsticker is on the verge of making the 1991 Eliminator decals available. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=21650&p=223049&hilit=eliminator+decals#p223049
