  1. The flywheel should be the same, regardless. I'd go with a new disc and pressure plate for the '86............the 9.6" that is called for.
  2. Ok, I'll bite. When? Why?
  3. What did you do with each bearing/journal that you spun? How did you resolve the problem?

    XJ Brakes

Yeah, I was going to suggest ceramics but I could not remember what used last on the wife's XJ. Pretty sure they were ceramics, Everlast or Everwear.....whatever Advance sells, the better of their line. That was about 4 years ago, 0 dust.
  5. Ratcheting 1/4 wrench takes all the work out of getting the doors off. Doors are in perfect shape, no dents or rust, if anyone wants to buy them.
  6. Who's doing what for hinge pins? Drill stock? Doors are coming off today, got to get started on this. Thanks.
  7. Bodywork is the most difficult thing I've done car related. Most of my highs-n-lows are inherent in the stamping, although it did have a couple of dings to get out.
  8. Allow me to open your can of worms. I don't want to be accused of giving bad advice, everyone has to take their own path. You asked me about my 2.5, I would not encourage you to do what I did, you'll be disappointed. Knowing what I know now, I would never do a 4.0 swap. Too much work, time, effort, money for the return. And no, I promise you you will not fix nor rebuild your current 4.0 for anywhere near $700. Machine work alone will chew that up. You've already stated that you don't have the tools.....and I'm assuming space....... I would encourage you to rethink what you want to accomplish and come up with a plan.

  11. I didn't even think of that. But isn't there a back plate? guess I could make one..............
  12. There is not one 97+ XJ at the PnP. I have noticed that many other vehicles use similar strikes, have any of you found strikes from any other that will work with late doors? Thanks

  14. Well, I don't' know that it will be just that easy................ You'll need to make an adapter plate, plug the injector holes. NOS TBI with 52lbs injector.
  15. No bother. This is not a MPI conversion, I converted an MPI intake to TBI and retained Renix. I have no idea what results you'd get just swapping the intake. I would not convert to MPI, I have many thoughts on this but all I'm going to do is tick people off. In fact, I'd put my engine up to any stock MPI anytime. The way this engine runs compared to the stock engine is apples to oranges. In the vid below you'll notice a what sounds like a blip in the throttle, I'm starving for fuel at mid throttle. New Bosch pump and still starving, I'll have to resolve this issue but what I do know is that demand for fuel/air is much greater than the stock pump can supply. Plus, this engine only has about 60 miles on it and about 2 hours or so of run time, it's not even broke in yet. You'll have to look at the big picture, cam timing, header, exhaust...etc.... The stock TBI intake is pure garbage, it just is. And you'll have to bypass the coolant around the intake, the heated intake destroys HP and is completely unnecessary. I'm effectively running dual open exhaust, no Cat. Those who claim that the 2.5/4.0 must retain some 'back pressure', it's just nonsense. AFE header. It's up to you but I don't think you can alter just one part of the whole and expect a great deal of change. If you swap intakes you'll need to at least go the the header. Oh, and sensors too.....all mine are NOS Renix or Mopar.........it's takes a lot to get it to run right.
  16. I got a quote from a local glass company an independent company 175 installed that's a brand-new windshield I could not imagine trying to swap glass out of an XJ without breaking it or damaging it to save 175
  17. Wow, that is cool. If I were not saving for brakes at the moment...........
  18. I grease my nuts, splines, bolts......even my lug nuts, you bet. I have a blunt shank for my air hammer.......impact always works for me.
  19. I've done it and it works, what do you want to know?
  20. I'll tell you what works for me. You mentioned you have NOS springs for the front...........don't know what you did there........... I had the standard springs on the rear, new from GS, ride was harsh. When the military wrap became available, I swapped. MW springs in the rear are a perfect match to the OME 930 springs in the front, the perfect combination, in my opinion. If you want an even (aft to fore) ride that is FIRM but not harsh.......that is the combination to go with. Of course, those are combined with 5100s.........very happy now. Any thing you do will change height, considerably, plan well.
  21. I've done it and I will never do it again. For the cost of new springs.......old springs are not worth the effort. Happy Trials.
  22. Trucks have now replaced the family sedan...........it's a different world from 1986.
  23. Why do you want to log out? I have never logged out of any site, no need to.
  24. Replace the fuel pump relay and bypass the fuel pump resistor. Curious, how long did it sit? How long has it sat before you got it?
