Manual to Auto Transmission
relyt120 replied to JeepFanactic's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My understanding is that yes Renix to Renix would be easiest for this conversion. -
All right so I pulled the lower dash panel and checked the inline fuse near the TCU and it was good. Just for the hell of it I replaced it anyway and checked to make sure I have 12v on both side with my volt meter. Since the fuse was good I went ahead and pulled the TCU and cleaned both sides of the connection with QD electronics cleaner. I also went ahead and did the same for the two plugs near the dip stick. After all that the symptoms have not changed. I am still convinced its the TCU since I can drive it just fine by manually shifting with the 1-2,3,and Drive selections. Anything else I should try before searching for a replacement TCU?

Hey guys. This is pretty out of no where but yesterday when I was leaving work I put my truck in drive and it seems like its in a higher gear than it should be. What I mean is I give it some gas and it has to rev up for a good little bit before I get any kind of speed, as if in too high a gear when driving a manual. Decided to utilize the 3 and 1-2 selections on my shifter and when I put it in 1-2 and then switch to 3 at the appropriate time and the to Drive after that I can get it to go through the gears just fine. Thus, The problem seems to be with the automatic changing of gears while in Drive. I have not done anything to try to remedy the problem yet but my first thought is something must be up with the TCU. Someone at work suggested it may be something with the torque converter but I not want to go down that road if I do not have to. Anyone have any thoughts? For now my plan is to pull the TCU and clean it up and apply electronics cleaner to both ends of the plug. Suggestions appreciated!

renix computer overheating
relyt120 replied to xman9282's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've never known it to get hot, but I don't go fishing around under the dash while I'm driving either. If you need another they can come out of any 88-90 xj/mj and i have one on the shelf you are welcome to if you want to pay for shipping. -
What is a good reputable re-manufactured engine?
relyt120 replied to JXP's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Like everyone else is saying a 4.0L will fit into any non-86 MJ's engine bay the same as it would any MJ which came with a 4.0 One thing to remember though is you can't just drop in a 4.0L with all the 2.5 wiring, radiator, trans, etc a lot of stuff has to be swapped out to move to the bigger engine. BUT IT WILL FIT!- 34 replies

It looks like A lot of time went into this ..
relyt120 replied to Strokermjcomanche's topic in The Pub
It looks really nice from the front but I'm not a fan overall. Would much rather see a real Comanche done up the way the exterior of this one looks. One thing that bugs me is that they say its a show truck but the engine isn't even cleaned up for the pictures. :hmm: -
To give you an idea of how bad my alignment is.. Here is my rear passenger tire: Here is my front passenger tire: Both were bought at the same time (new) a few month ago!

Wow its been a while! I finally got around to doing the ball joints Only ended up doing the passenger side since those are the ones the shop said were bad ...Man what a bear of a project the tool I rented was just the right size so I could not get my breaker bar and socket on when using it correctly so I had to improvise for getting the top one out. Also my caliper mounting bolts, well one of them, got destroyed and I had to search hard to find suitable replacements. I went to Napa, Oreilly, advanced, autozone, the junkyard, and the dealer. NO ONE CARRIES THE MOUNTING BOLTS and the junkyard did not have any older model XJs to get one from -apparently mid way through 92 they changed the caliper/knuckle mounting to use much longer bolts. I ended up finding the specs of the bolts from a yj forum thread about this same useless search and ordered replacements from fastenal. The replacements are a perfect fit but have two differences. 1-instead of a 12 pt half inch bolt head it has a 19mm hex head 2-it is threaded all the way up, unlike the originals The length was perfect and they slid right in with no problems. Here's the specs: 10.9 Hardness 35mm long M12 w/1.25 thread pitch (M12 x 35, 1.25 pitch, 10.9 hardness) In other news my death wobble is back... I think the new tires along with the steering stabilizer and several replacement TRE's masked the issue but with my alignment still out of whack (I was waiting until I did the ball joints) my front tires have worn unevenly. Specifically the outside edge is excessively warn, especially on the passenger's side. I was hoping finally getting the passenger ball joints in would remedy the issue but it seems to have only made it worse...I can only imagine the work caused the alignment to get even worse. I am going to get an alignment, tires re-balanced, and a rotation. After that I will see where I stand with the death wobble. On another note my battery had been dying periodically and I thought it was all the extras I had wired in (amp, windows/locks, power inverter, etc) so I removed a bunch of it trying to troubleshoot. Then it died while I was at work for no apparent reason. I think the battery has given up the ghost, I got it in 2012 or that's what the sticker indicates and I have let it drain several times so at this point I think it has to be the issue. I am going to swap it with the battery in my other truck and see how that goes. If anyone has any other suggestions on the death wobble I am all ears!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jeep-Comanche-Pioneer-/171909533369?forcerrptr=true&hash=item28069b4eb9&item=171909533369 Is there something I am missing about this truck? It looks like a plain jane '88 to me but its already gotten a 4k bid and reserve is not met! Let someone offer me 4k for one of my trucks, that thing would be gone so quick...then buy 2 or 3 more.
