  1. I ment head, I think it's that one. What type of connector style was it? I seem to have lost it in the mess. I think it was just a single rubber boot that slipped over it? No more EFI. Or wiring harness... I'm going to rebuild the wiring harness from the ground up with what I need (like, nothing...) and run propane. Gotta figure out my gauges, because I still need to know if I'm cooking the motor. Hope it all works.
  2. Actually, it's a common trick for guys who own SWB jeeps with horrid steep rear pinion angles to park facing down a steep hill to fill the rear diff.
  3. 1/4 elliptical, somebody was asking about that...
  4. Accomplished: Pretty much NADA. Ran some ideas through my head, welded up my header, mocked up the location of a few things. Put Off: Didn't bother to phone and see if my tube is in to pick up, haven't gone to the walk in clinic (I ain't dead, so I'll be okay), haven't sold the XJ, didn't swap distributors, didn't plumb my radiator, didn't talk to the propane shop, didn't weld in extra rock slider braces, didn't buy any parts other than ones I don't need, and a whole lot more.
  5. No, LP driver's side, with ball joints and unitized hubs. Some (really new) are metric bolt pattern too, methinks. And some, maybe all have a CAD too. I have a D60 under my cummins dodge.
  6. Yeah, this is a newer dodge so it is driver's drop at least. The ford one is better, but actually weaker in stock form. I'd like the HP though. Hate LP axles after putting in my waggy D44 front. I might have to take it and use it as a barter tool later though.
  7. Yes. And don't worry about getting the pre-load bang on. You can't always. A bit too tight is better than too loose.
  8. I dunno... I just got offered a dodge front D60 in trade for my XJ. And maybe I can talk him into a chevy 14B rear to go with it... The thing is, it's tempting... But, I don't exactly have plans to go to 1-tons yet. And a dodge D60 wouldn't be my first choice. And I want to sell my XJ for cash so I can buy a MIG. Yeah, I want a MIG. It's jsut easier. I think I'm spoiled though. Hmm...
  9. I take it is that stubby stud like thing beside the ground strap at the back of the block?
  10. I fill mine above the top fill hole. But I fill it on the bench out of the truck. And you can use whatever ATF you want in a 231. They don't care. Although, I do personally like the Dex/merc stuff.
  11. That's awesome. The actual header looks about as bad as mine.
  12. This is an update to tell you I suck. I welded my exhaust back up. It looks like crap. One thing I hate about stick welding is I really lose my touch after I don't do it for a while. Ohwell, it just has to hold. No, I didn't take a picture because it looks so bad. Then I tackled my distributor problem.... Image Not Found Theoretically that HEI unit out of a chevy will fit. However, it has the wrong gear on it (knew that). I pulled the gear off the stocker to put it on that one, and guess what? Not the same sized shaft. Whatever, I know a later AMC V8 gear will work. It's on its way. I also must have wrecked that disty since I pulled it. It no longer spins correctly. So I'll try cleaning it up, but might have to go back to the junkyard.
  13. I like grey. Is that a crime? But I like black in a vehicle that's more showey.. I don't really like the blue (that was) in my MJ. Is it dark blue or light blue? My 86 had a lighter blue interior than it. So I'd assume it's dark?
  14. Wait... Where's the one in the head? I was looking at the one in the block and going 'This thing plugs into the ECM, how am I gonna use this?'
  15. A few good ones have been mentioned. Stay away from the toyota one. It's a pile, IMHO. Actually, that's pretty much how I feel about toyotas in general. Nissan offers a nice little unit in some of their horrible trucks. I've seen one in an XJ. Isuzu makes a couple. The larger (good) one is rare other than out of service trucks. Which can be found. The smaller one came in the mini-trucks and some troopers perhaps. Honestly, if you want one of the smaller ones, buy an Isuzu pickup. They're actually decent trucks other than the IFS. Cummins makes a 3.3L engine that should fit. Chevy bellhousing pattern. Should be easy, but you won't find one in the boneyard. And the volkswagon one is actually pretty decent, and can be mated up really easily. I've heard of them in suzukis, so they'll fit a jeep no problemo.
  16. They're leaf sprung on all corners. Have a soft frame. Have poorly designed steering. Have an amemic engine. Have horrible brakes. Etc... If a guy wants to put the time into them, they can be made to drive nice. 4wd or 2wd. I saw one at the 'rod lot the other day. It was chopped, had a 302 in it, and mustang II suspension with a chrysler 8.75 rear. It was pretty hot if you asked me. Basically, it's all about how bad you want it, and if it really is the right one for you.
  17. Oh yeah, D44 rear are 2.75" tubes. Unless you've got a weird one.
  18. Unless he's going junkyard. A juy can swap in some lower arched leaves to get the ride height closer.
  19. For a 4oh, renix era... Anybody have a clue how it's wired? I couldn't find the diagram in the manual, until I found it under the ECM stuff. Looks like the computer reads everything from it? Don't think I can use it without a computron. I'm still trying to figure out the tach and oil pressure sender. Think I have them in the bag though... Oh, does anybody know of any cheap aftermarket gauges?
  20. You should get a crush sleeve eliminator! Otherwise I have no clue. Never done a setup on one of those.
  21. Expanded steel, maybe. Might save a few pounds. Or I might drop the whole deck...
  22. I don't follow...
  23. Can't find a job? Sheesh. Move to alberta for a while. They're pay you $20/hour to say 'You want fries with that?".
  24. Here's the propane parts. Lock-off valve. Liquid propane from the tank is fed through it. This one is vacuum triggered (see the hose?), but electric ones are common to. I couldn't find the electric one. An impco one will say 'Imcpo' and give a part number on the back. I don't know about any other models. Image Not Found Regulator/vapourizer. Unregulated liquid propane from the lock-off is fed to here via hose. It is vapourized by an element that coolant is pumped through and regulated at a steady low pressure (1psi or something). Image Not Found That's an Impco model E. If you've got a rag to wipe the dirt off it's pretty easy to tell. They made the 'Model E' label plenty big. There's other models, but the 'E' is ment for larger engines. Mixer. Just like a carb. They come with different base plates and can be had in different sizes. Imcp 425. Image Not Found Image Not Found They're labelled really clearly. The 425 is the most common one. But a guy might find an OHG 450, I forget how easily they're identified. In a dual fuel application an Imcpo 300A is the most common, and they're labelled just like the 425. Hope that helps.
  25. IMHO, I do not like that product. And yes, I had it.
