  1. I had not heard anything about this. Over on Moparts all they can do is brag on the 3.6 Pentastar. Is it only the early builds? What would that be, 2011s?
  2. Just curious, why does the airtex pump seem to get no love here? I needed a sender/pump assembly, and airtex was what I found. So far (couple thousand miles) all seems well ... although I do have this 100-150 rpm idle gallop ...
  3. I think that is a very good price! You did not go wrong there, especially if it is already set up to use in the MJ> Make sure your oil leak isn't coming from around the base of the oil filter adappter, a leak there is VERY common, and relatively cheap to fix. Also make sure your CCV hose isn't plugged, that will build pressure in the engine, push vapor into the air filter box, and oil OUT any marginal leak spots. On a previous xj (my exgrayxj) it was clogged, I did ssome mods, used a regular pcv valve and a twist in breather at the oil fill hole, cured what I had thought was a rear main seal leak.
  4. PM'd you, visors on the way. Installed the headl;iner yesterday ... by myself ...you have my respect if you do these regularly without losing your sanity! I was missing one J hook and had no velcro except in the back, that didn't help! Everything looks good now, tho, just a little off at the LR corner. At least two worlds better than before, thank you for making this headliner replacement, I have 3 stockers and none of them would been a good base for new cloth! It gave me the incentive to do some other work on it too! Thanks! Jim Would post pics (took a few) if I was smart enough to do it ...
  5. Same on my '90, Jim. Every once in a while I have to push the cable toward the dash to stop the needle from wobbling.
  6. Good advice on the speedo cable, I should have disconnected mine first ...
  7. To get my wife to help, it would be more than pizza, and before done it would be duct tape ...just sayin ...
  8. Here in the sunshine state, the fees have been raised by Gov. alien to supplement the state income. Since his election. Now it is $58.35 for my xj,$71.85 for my 2wd GMC. Normal tags. Both nearly doubled. Title transfer fees also went from around $27-28 to over $75. Consequently many titles don't get transferred until it is a necessity. Like the mj. My HD is $57.35, "supposed" vanity tag, even tho it is all #s. All due this week ...
  9. Thanks, Mvusse. That is exactly what I was thinking, my '90 has disco, and was planning on replacing both sides with non-disco later axles, but was unsure if it would also require later bearings. My plan was to gut the disco mechanism. This would then use the same inside seal at the carrier, I guess?
  10. It wasn't the pump for Flint54, guys. He posted a while back it was the balancer rubbing the front cover ... not sure what Hesco had to say to his call ...
  11. [when in 4 wheel drive the steering gets super jerky to the point the tires screech when I'm turning can anyone tell me if this is one big fix or abunch of costly little things quote] Tires all same size?
  12. If you could only see my truck, it would answer the Q. I had the tiny plastic Wrangler type, and the right was broken, the truck needs other stuff, and PM's just aren't in the plan ... maybe later with some power windows? and maybe, possibly, somewhere down the road, is a door swap, I just needed to see where the enemy was. And, Don, best reason I can give, THEY WEREN'T CHROME! JK (also my initials)
  13. Hijack I need to replace one of my joints on my '90. Am I correct that I can just replace both axles with the later larger joint axle? As in, still use my hub bearings, no other change than the axles? Thanks
  14. :agree: Did this on my '90, even with the vent window post there visibility is much better. Couldn't find any manual ones, so got a pair of power ones, and cut the wires, I just move the glass around to where I want it and shazam, good to go.
  15. "I love it when a plan comes together." When I did mine, I never noticed the PO had had the bed unbolted, and only the rear most bolts were holding it on ... when I tightened the tank straps, drove it for a few days, I noticed the bed and cab were not aligned. Tightening the straps lifted the bed! Took a few seconds to figure out what was going on. Loosened the tank, bolted the bed, and retightened the tank. Best part of the above story, and I just now realized it, is that when I bought the truck it was about 100 miles away, so I rode my dresser Harley over, drove and bought the truck, loaded the bike in the back, strapped it to the bed, and came home ...now that I think about it, lucky I didn't lose the whole deal.
  16. [ name='Sugarfoot' But I question that grand Cherokee. I though they were different than us. ] Oh, trust me, they are...
  17. Sharper minds than mine will know, but I am thinking that if you ran it with the gauge pinned at the high end you have probably fried the gauge. On another note, the sender I got from Autozone made my gauge read higher than actual temp. Looked the same, but it's replacement seems to be accurate. Worth checking when you get a working gauge.
  18. Cool it was the same one. I read the ad a number of times and thought "thats a long way to go if it isn't something I can use". Now I wish I had. Story of my life. For a couple hundred, new tank,sender/pump, at your door, that is the way I'd go. BTW they aren't mine, just ebay stuff, and what I did. Damn that is a straight truck! Even the bumper!
  19. I was told by someone that I consider to pretty sharp on this stuff, that the TJ booster (and presumeably the master with it) is virtually a bolt on. The only TJ booster I have seen does have the funny shaped, droopy pushrod and flat ground area for the switch. I also am guessing that the TJ master probably uses bubble flares, so lines will still have to be made. At least around here, XJs ZJs and even WJs outnumber the TJs in the u pull it. I have yet to see a TJ there, in any of the ones I go to. Even MJs as few and far apart as they are, are more common than a TJ in local yards. So, it will be most likely another XJ conversion for me when it comes the MJs turn. But, on the xj, it has been an amazing improvement in braking, with a 97 up xj booster master. Having brakes that work is a good thing.

    Fuel Sender

He's also in Jacksonville. Florida tho. He needs one bad, and the tank. See his other post.
  21. Rob, he IS one of the lucky non rustbelters ...
  22. Hmmm... maybe over towards Gville somewhere, advertised as no start? Pics showed it all mud? Wish I had gone to look at it! I agree, that much varnish in the tank, just replace it, the rest of the lines MIGHT just not be that bad. Finding a sender can be a bear, DAMHIK. For a couple hundred bucks you can have a new tank and sender/pump, but it won't have a baffle/reservoir. What are your plans?
  23. Since mine already had a xj pump/sender assy in it, I have no direct comparison, in fact it was by accident that I found out what I had, someone posted a pic I found in a search, and viola, I deduced I had the wrong sender all this time, no wonder things didn't communicate. As I understand it, the xj float arm is the biggest , maybe the only, difference, bent differently, goes left instead of right, or something? Not exactly sure, since I never have had a mj one to hold up to it. And when I got all done, my gas gauge worked bass ackwards, full tank read empty, and versa vica, but the low fuel light worked normally. That turned out to be that my ebay tach dash cluster had a '91 and later gauge in it, when I swapped that out with the right year one, it all speaks the same language. It wasn't until I noticed that the gauge face was a little off color from all the others that made me suspect something. Too bad you have to go this route if your tank is good, seems like somewhere there should be a good sender. OH and the grommets are likely all you need, my valves were ok, and all they are is checks so that gas won't go out the vents in a rollover.
  24. Keep in mind the bolt pattern is different and will need adapters.
