  1. I imagine that if it's sticking due to corrosion, there's not much you can do aside from replacing it or the throttle body. But if it's only dirt, a good brush and maybe some sort of cleaner would help. Obviously be careful about what gets into the throttle body itself.
  2. Sir, that alone would be heaven on earth.
  3. I take it you are specifically referring to the coiled wire portion, yes? I recently did a bored throttle body on my Renix and saw that mine was actually quite filthy with dirt and micro bunnies. So I took a try old toothbrush I've had since 1995 and got on there. I don't think it mattered but it was driving me crazy to look at while adjusting the TPS. As for taking it apart? I don't know if I would go that far. But that's just me.
  4. I can't name the brand as I don't even know what they are, but a friend has a 1996 Cherokee he put in some fairly close to original looking switches in for his fog lights and light bar. He learned real quickly that driving at night with either switch turned on is blinding as the lights that emit from the switches are bright as can be.
  5. As the above poster asks, what motor is in the truck? And you might have better input if you include year, engine, transmission in your sig so we can quick reference your model. And to clarify, are you stating that when you short the starter it itself cranks, but the motor does not turn over? Also, if you have not done so, please take the time to look at Cruiser54's Mostly Renix tips, particularly the grounds and other electrical tips.
  6. By CPS do you refer to the Cam Position Sensor or Crank Sensor? I just want to be sure because sometimes I see confusion between the two. I'm not sure if this is truly relatable, but I'll bring my 1993 ZJ 4.0 into the equation. I had a crank-no start scenario three years ago that was somewhat out of the blue. I forget what it was, but something electric failed and when I replaced it, my cam position sensor died out too- and I heard that it can sometimes fail in near unison with a certain electrical component. I thought I'd throw that out there, for what it's worth.
  7. Okay folks, here's the skinny!!! For those curious or in search of the answer: My '89 4.0 TPS required (x2) 8-36x1" bolts. It is my understanding that this is the standard with Renix Jeeps. Yes, McMaster-Carr does indeed stock what you will need, however, I ordered from eBay because I didn't want to create another account at this time.
  8. A very reputable mind in the XJ/MJ tech scene has been lost. Let us all take note of his wisdom and all that he had given to the community. As an historian, I cannot agree more strongly that all of his site and wealth of knowledge must be compiled, archived, and maintained for easy access.
  9. I continued my search for the query and after nearly an hour looking online, through some miracle I may have come up on the answer incidentally. I don't know yet, but apparently the Renix TPS screws are 8-36x1". I looked. Ain't not a one of the damn hardware stores within fifty of me have ever carried a 36 thread bolt before! Luckily, I have learned that McMaster-Carr has these size bolts. I'm going to order some tonight, and if they fit, I'll be posting on here with a link an everything because I doubt I'll be the last cat on the block to ask this question.
  10. I've visited two very good hardware stores and the one bolt that I have is a unicorn to them. The thread pitch is not 24 or 32. M5 80 is a bust, both 8 and 10-24/32 are a bust.
  11. I guess that makes sense because I had no clue how they would have gotten that way.
  12. Okay so my search hasn't exactly been the most fruitful of the following question. What are the dimensions of a Renix 4.0 TPS bolt and IAC bolt? I wanted to replace the bolts because I lost one, the other TPC bolt started stripping at the torx head, and the IAC bolts somehow have a triangular shape to the shaft. On a whim yesterday, I took the TPS bolt to the hardware store, and it seemed to match with an M5, but the M5s that I took home seem too big. Today I returned and noticed that the TPS bolt will thread into both the M5 and the 10-32 gauges. But when I compare the bolt to what they have, it seems the threads don't sawtooth together with the 10-32 bolts. Or maybe it was 8-32, heck I dunno, I've got so many numbers already to memorize... The IAC looks to have a larger diameter shaft. '89 4.0 Renix, by the way.
  13. Now that's an XJ! Referring to a topic I started earlier. Don't those have the curse of the Prince of Darkness? The local JY has a '78 XJ V12 that burned to the ground, likely due to the shoddy wiring I saw under the hood.
  14. Fortunately I do believe my header panel is quite solid. Now I've done. Probably going get crack in it now that I've said that.
  15. I mean I've bought Onix, Crown, Standard, NGK/NTK, Mopar, and WVE parts for my '93 ZJ before with spotty success. Mopar direct replacements are often scarce or unobtainium. I was just wondering if anyone had issues with aftermarket parts at the front end having fitment or quality issues. Lemme tell you about a freaking '93 ZJ and a freaking headlight aftermarket that **sucks**.
  16. I don't know if this will help you much at all but I thought I would throw this thought out there for you. A long time ago we had a 1995 Mazda Miata and it came from the factory with twin black pinstripes along the belt line. We were the second owners and we didn't know the pinstripes were originally black. When we bought it, it had sort of a dark charcoal gray set of otherwise-matching pinstripes that someone had replaced the originals with. When we tried to replace the gray stripes, to our amazement, wasn't available. The best we figured was that some company offered them at one point and by the time we tried to replace them, they stopped selling them. In the end we went back to the black. The question is: Could this be a result of something aftermarket? Never say never, and sometimes you just have to consider the odds may be higher than you think. :/
  17. That's exactly what I was referring to earlier. I had heard a rumor about Jeep allegedly working on a smaller pickup about a year ago, perhaps something in line with a new "Rampage" or "Dakota", I guess. The first thought it that because of the whole thing about Cherokee being offensive, Comanche will never happen. They'd probably want to pick another name like "Commando" or "Scrambler" to sully with a Renegade-like truck.
  18. Comanche engine. It was a 4 cylinder that they offered with a turbo, which brought it up to a mighty 111hp. By all accounts it's a good engine, and I believe a majority of Scouts had it up to MY 1980. But if you lived in a hilly area or did a lot of highway travel, you often opted for larger options.
  19. For me the new Gladiator is a lifestyle truck, as someone else had mentioned. Besides, it doesn't seem as practical for the money you pay. I find the bed itself to be insufficient in dimension. At the same price point, you can find a more practical pickup. If I'm being forthright, I absolutely worry about Stellantis getting their hands on the Comanche nameplate because I have a hunch it would be based off a platform ill-suited to the task. It would ruin the name in my book. Best to let it ride the coat tail of history.
  20. Oh okay, I didn't know what to call it! But that's great to know Key Parts is making them!
  21. I have replaced the headlights with good IPFs, but soon I am going to take off the old grille (dangles due to broken attachment points), bezels (faded), side markers (both cracked), turn lamps (faded), bumper cover (rusty), side extensions (gnarly), and redo the whole front end with newer parts if I can. I have a few questions: 1. What is the going opinion of aftermarket bezels, header panels, grilles, etc. Is there a certain brand to look for or avoid? 2. What is the painted chin spoiler-type deal below the front end? Mine is painted the same Spinnaker Blue as my truck but it's beat to heck and bent up? 3. Is the chrome grille moulding still unobtainium? It seems that the long strip that goes above Renix grilles are hard to find, and part of that is because there doesn't seem to be a commonly-used part name to search. Thanks.
  22. I was at an auction yesterday and a very large new section of (probably) 1/8 or 1/16 inch diamond plating was sold off for $300. It looked to be at least eight feet long and about four feet wide. I guess considering prices, someone got a deal.
  23. I look at all that diamond plate and think "cha-ching!" Sweet design though, it fits the style. Comanches were not street racers, they weren't the biggest baddest performance vehicles of their day- they were TRUCKS. If my door cards were not in excellent shape and I had to scrap ratty ones, I'd definitely consider this alternative to used ones, even if it costs a lot more.
  24. I have very much the same experience.
  25. That's the same thing I say. Likely they didn't think Scrambler would be as appealing as something based like Gladiator- I don't blame them. In this day I doubt we'll ever see another Comanche return because the European overlords at Stellantis didn't seem to keen on keeping the name Cherokee when their nation was alleged to take offense to it.
