Okay so my search hasn't exactly been the most fruitful of the following question. What are the dimensions of a Renix 4.0 TPS bolt and IAC bolt? I wanted to replace the bolts because I lost one, the other TPC bolt started stripping at the torx head, and the IAC bolts somehow have a triangular shape to the shaft. On a whim yesterday, I took the TPS bolt to the hardware store, and it seemed to match with an M5, but the M5s that I took home seem too big. Today I returned and noticed that the TPS bolt will thread into both the M5 and the 10-32 gauges. But when I compare the bolt to what they have, it seems the threads don't sawtooth together with the 10-32 bolts. Or maybe it was 8-32, heck I dunno, I've got so many numbers already to memorize... The IAC looks to have a larger diameter shaft. '89 4.0 Renix, by the way.

Now that's an XJ! Referring to a topic I started earlier. Don't those have the curse of the Prince of Darkness? The local JY has a '78 XJ V12 that burned to the ground, likely due to the shoddy wiring I saw under the hood.

Fortunately I do believe my header panel is quite solid. Now I've done. Probably going get crack in it now that I've said that. -
Ordering front end parts

I mean I've bought Onix, Crown, Standard, NGK/NTK, Mopar, and WVE parts for my '93 ZJ before with spotty success. Mopar direct replacements are often scarce or unobtainium. I was just wondering if anyone had issues with aftermarket parts at the front end having fitment or quality issues. Lemme tell you about a freaking '93 ZJ and a freaking headlight aftermarket that **sucks**. -
Decal Twilight Zone

I don't know if this will help you much at all but I thought I would throw this thought out there for you. A long time ago we had a 1995 Mazda Miata and it came from the factory with twin black pinstripes along the belt line. We were the second owners and we didn't know the pinstripes were originally black. When we bought it, it had sort of a dark charcoal gray set of otherwise-matching pinstripes that someone had replaced the originals with. When we tried to replace the gray stripes, to our amazement, wasn't available. The best we figured was that some company offered them at one point and by the time we tried to replace them, they stopped selling them. In the end we went back to the black. The question is: Could this be a result of something aftermarket? Never say never, and sometimes you just have to consider the odds may be higher than you think. :/ -

That's exactly what I was referring to earlier. I had heard a rumor about Jeep allegedly working on a smaller pickup about a year ago, perhaps something in line with a new "Rampage" or "Dakota", I guess. The first thought it that because of the whole thing about Cherokee being offensive, Comanche will never happen. They'd probably want to pick another name like "Commando" or "Scrambler" to sully with a Renegade-like truck. -

Comanche engine. It was a 4 cylinder that they offered with a turbo, which brought it up to a mighty 111hp. By all accounts it's a good engine, and I believe a majority of Scouts had it up to MY 1980. But if you lived in a hilly area or did a lot of highway travel, you often opted for larger options. -

For me the new Gladiator is a lifestyle truck, as someone else had mentioned. Besides, it doesn't seem as practical for the money you pay. I find the bed itself to be insufficient in dimension. At the same price point, you can find a more practical pickup. If I'm being forthright, I absolutely worry about Stellantis getting their hands on the Comanche nameplate because I have a hunch it would be based off a platform ill-suited to the task. It would ruin the name in my book. Best to let it ride the coat tail of history. -

Oh okay, I didn't know what to call it! But that's great to know Key Parts is making them! -
I have replaced the headlights with good IPFs, but soon I am going to take off the old grille (dangles due to broken attachment points), bezels (faded), side markers (both cracked), turn lamps (faded), bumper cover (rusty), side extensions (gnarly), and redo the whole front end with newer parts if I can. I have a few questions: 1. What is the going opinion of aftermarket bezels, header panels, grilles, etc. Is there a certain brand to look for or avoid? 2. What is the painted chin spoiler-type deal below the front end? Mine is painted the same Spinnaker Blue as my truck but it's beat to heck and bent up? 3. Is the chrome grille moulding still unobtainium? It seems that the long strip that goes above Renix grilles are hard to find, and part of that is because there doesn't seem to be a commonly-used part name to search. Thanks.

I was at an auction yesterday and a very large new section of (probably) 1/8 or 1/16 inch diamond plating was sold off for $300. It looked to be at least eight feet long and about four feet wide. I guess considering prices, someone got a deal.
-
I look at all that diamond plate and think "cha-ching!" Sweet design though, it fits the style. Comanches were not street racers, they weren't the biggest baddest performance vehicles of their day- they were TRUCKS. If my door cards were not in excellent shape and I had to scrap ratty ones, I'd definitely consider this alternative to used ones, even if it costs a lot more.

That's the same thing I say. Likely they didn't think Scrambler would be as appealing as something based like Gladiator- I don't blame them. In this day I doubt we'll ever see another Comanche return because the European overlords at Stellantis didn't seem to keen on keeping the name Cherokee when their nation was alleged to take offense to it. -

Don't count the "Gladiator" of new? I give it a hard time only for the name, same I as I give the Mach E a hard time for falsely being branded a Mustang. -

The thing about factory chassis codes is we use those in the production environment a lot. For seven years I worked for a fuel tank supplier. We never said Mazda CX-50 gas tank, we said Mazda J34A. Nodge Ditro/Leep Jiberty was KA/KK. Ford was always the "U" code. Speaking of which, since I was responsible for leading all of the stress and other testing on the gas tanks, there is a difference with the Nitro tanks from their Liberty counterparts, even though they may look the same. So yeah, the chassis codes make sense in a production environment. I can just imagine working in a factory at the time having to make "XJ" parts. -

And that's a sign you have a conversation piece. -
A few days ago I stopped in Advance Auto for some oil and a filter for my Ranger. As I'm browsing their deals and what not, two highschool-aged boys came in and they were chatting with the fellow behind the counter about this or that. For clarification: I live in Chevy country. Silverados and Sierras are built just up the road from me and loyalty is strong locally. And since older Chevies and Fords have gotten both difficult to find and afford for most, older Dodges are making somewhat of a comeback here. At the same time, so are older Jeeps. Well one of these two younger boys I saw drive up to the store in an XJ, nice to know those are getting a second wind around here. The gentleman behind the counter is a smart fellow; he semi-retired after nearly thirty years working in a local shop, and he is just enjoying himself working behind the counter. He's quite knowledgeable and has steered me right each time I've inquired about a product or part. So I've set the stage... The kid who drove the XJ to the store with his buddy asked about a part for his Jeep. I don't recall- but the gentleman begins the search on the store's online catalog. The kid said: "It's for my XJ." "Okay, son. What year is your Jaguar?" Asked the clerk. "Jaguar? Naw bro, I drive a Jeep XJ, it's a 1998." "XJ was a Jaguar." The clerk told him. Needless to say the kid clarified it's a Cherokee, and the gentleman acknowledged that he was aware and was justing giving the kid the business. But as I've thought about it, the dude has a point. I think Duesenberg even had a prototype once called the XJ- feel free to fact check me on that. Has anyone here ever gotten a weird look when they say XJ or MJ? I never say those or refer to my Grand Cherokee as a ZJ unless I know the person I'm speaking to knows what it means, personally. I just found the conversation amusing to listen to. What does MJ mean anyway? I like to tell my buddies that it stands for "My Jeep" for obvious reasons. I know XJ supposedly means Xperimental Jeep, but I recall seeing original AMC drawings claiming it to stand for Xciting Jeep.

It seems it's just a design that has been made so far. I didn't see it on their site either. Pre-production prototype, likely.

It's nice to have the option because one of these days, the instrument clusters will become unobtainium for some folks. I'm curious: How easy would it be to do this swap if I have a cluster with the dummy gauges?
-
One lucky fella won that. I see they did a few J-series builds and some Fords that I really liked to.

My '88 Ranger has an S-10 topper on it. I'd say the S-10 is slightly longer because the PO of the Ranger has to put down a foam tube at the back for it to fit right.
