good deal. thanks guys. I'm going spring over finally. I'm guessing that 42" center hole to center hole is correct? also fellas while i was taking off the old brakes and getting it ready for the disc conversion, not one but BOTH of those little spider gears fell out! i thought it didnt move but i guess it did when i was taking that $#!& off. anyway how am i supposed to go about getting it back right?? did you make new shock mounts or did you just stay SUA?

alright so ive got my 8.25 now i need to know a few more things. do i just get perches for a 3" tube and what length, if theres a choice. i figured longer the better what angle do i set the axle at? I'm sure ill figure out where to make shock mounts but how did you go about mounting yours? i know i have a few more questions but i can't think of them. if you have anything else to add about this swap, please do so!

id be more worried about that frame rot :ack:

damn its been awhile! made some decent deals today putting the wheels back in motion on my build. bought a 8.25 rear and a non-cad dana 30 but its a low pinion! :wall: bummer here's the 8.25 somewhat in pieces needs new hardlines but the brakes are good, as well as the 3.55 gears. throw on some new perches and shock mounts and under the manche it goes :D also have my long arms on the way and working on some used 33s. seems to be coming along nicely now

only thing about Vdubs is if you wrecked them, your dead. period. ive got a 72 bug and theres no surviving a head on at normal highway speeds. damn tin can death mobile but i still love driving it cool pics man

:rotf: damn and i thought i was getting off easy with this one and go for it Vintage! it might be a breeze to get through. i walked across that one (waders) and the water wasnt too deep, its the goopy @$$ mud that sucked me down. i ended up pushing a wall of mud/leaves into a dip that stopped me dead. still worth it though

^^^^ nailed it. i wasnt going to say anything. buy another car if you want to go fast. i go 130 or more just for fun in my other car but i don't go or have even tested the Mj for a top speed. highest i get is 65, MAYBE 70 and thats when I'm hurrying to get somewhere in it. i understand where your coming from though, just be easy with it

here's my pine wood derby story.. or the one i remember most. my brother and i always made damn near the same car but this year we went our own ways. his was sleek and mine was like a box lol. i figured hell i might win but didnt hold my breath. so i went on and thought well i may not win but i can still get another award. i went for the "most colorful award" and made it all hippie tye dye rainbow type deal. cool. well we went and we both did pretty good actually. we were pleased. so they were handing out awards and up came the colorful one. i knew i had it.......wrong. it went to a kid with a solid white with red stripe going down it! turns out it was a son of a "higher up" dad that didnt win. nice. all the work i ACTUALLY put into mine and they just give it to a kid to make him feel better!!??!!! bulls**t. my dad was going to go say something since he was pretty fired up but i said no, let it go. if that kid really needs to win that bad let him have it. it was just pathetic the whole scene there. we never went back to the Scouts after that

yup, first time stuck. i had been to this ditch several times on my trail. each time the coin toss telling me no, don't do it. well i went back for a third time, flipped the coin, still no. i knew i couldnt make it but i still sat there and thought, whats life if your not living it and dropped in. two hours later and I'm free

explain??? they just seemed easier to deal with overall and i really do like that skid plate involved in the mounting on TNTs as to where RK just has brackets hanging down. after reading through this thread again I'm sort of re-thinking it but id like to get the ball rolling since ive got my build now set on a wheelin' trip date. i just want to get at least this done, axles swapped, SOA rear and locked front. which all can be done i just need to start!
-
alright, its time to buy. I'm thinking now I'm going with TNT. i just liked the Y link vs. four seperate arms of Rock Krawler in the end really. plus TNT gives you a full skid plate that the Ys link into. its only a few more hundred then RK so its "hell why not" at this point. for any of you guys running this setup, is there anything i need to know? any tricks, tips or advice? all would be appreciated

i thought you already did your ball joints??? but yeah, MOOGs

Lockers for my Blue88Comanche
SW86 replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Why's that? I have a Detroit and drive my truck every day. mainly just because of turning. one wheel has to turn faster/slower then the other but like Pete said theres a lot of variables that go into it i guess. maybe its just me but youd think that a fulltime locker and turning all the time would either wear out your tires faster or even the locker. hell your living it though so i suppose youd know better then me (without one) :dunno: anyway back to subject id still lock the front first. its like a secret weapon, its not there until you pop it into 4wd and then boom, your actually going where you want to -
that second truck is a guys on here. hell i just saw him post somewhere too.

SW86 replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i think thats the rear your thinking about. -
i usually leave mine on power but i can tell the difference when its on comfort and i don't like it at all. its more sluggish.
-
^^^ Rock Krawler sure likes to go all out thats for sure but better overkill then under

get a lunch box locker and throw it in the dana 30. I'm going with Aussie but there are a few more to choose from. plus if your going to drive it daily you don't want a locker in the rear..or at least not a full-time one -
that thing is a beast! post more pics
