More new MJ Owner ?'s - Dash Cluster/"Dome" Lights
KYMJ replied to SuperWade2's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Have you actually looked at the interior lights? They're not a very good design. Sometimes they just simply don't make good contact with the bulb. I had some that were corroded just enough to keep them from doing so. I sprayed them with contact cleaner and they worked for a while. Replacement was the only permanant solution. I bought new ones for 1 of my trucks, don't know if they are still available from the dealer. I paid $24 wholesale each. The lights in my remaining MJ are doing the same thing now, and once in a while they will come on with the doors open, but most of the time not. They will come on with the light switch turned to the interior light position. You can try cleaning the contacts, but after you see the lights up close, you'll realize its not as easy as it sounds. Plus the more you mess with these stupid lights, the more chance you'll break the tabs that hold them in the side panels. Mine hang from the wires  . Poor design. -
Gas smell - but no gas leaking! Any suggestions
KYMJ replied to robfg67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You might see it on the heat shield. You actually might see a stream coming from the injector. They can be hard to trace, one minute they're leaking the next minute, they're not. -

Check for a leaky injector. I assumed you only looked under the tank and on the ground. -
Yeah, noticed that, among other things, Thanks a bunch.

I just bought a 99 F-150 OFFROAD4X4 after only owning JEEPS for years. Nice truck, know nothing about them, except there not as easy to work on. I can't work on it like my JEEPS. Common problem(Iknow now), broken bolts on the exhaust manifold. Too much trouble for me, so it's already been to the shop. Changing the oil is a pain, not as easy as my JEEPS, the filter is right above the front pumpkin, oil everywhere. I've got the 5.4 Triton, however. Just my observations so far. Nice trucks, however, so good find for you.

Repairing front header panel...
KYMJ replied to BRC 88MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I just used 1 layer, I'd say more would be better. Might add, I bought a replacement header once, didn't fit well(too wide of gap between it and hood), and I didn't use it. -
Repairing front header panel...
KYMJ replied to BRC 88MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Fiberglass resin will work fine. I used it(with the mesh cloth) to repair a place on a header. Quite nice repair actually. -
They come with everything to pop it in.

Got mine overnight at O'Reilly's. $13 and some change.

Ditto, Thanks to Pete.

Aight Blowby and some grit.............
KYMJ replied to CMMagnussen's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've got a 90 4.0 w/240,000. I replaced all the lines and took the valve coveer off and cleaned it, still blowby. Mine didn't have build-up like yours. If mine had that much build-up I'd do it, not that hard, I just had to make new gaskets for the vents inside. I replaced the hoses and didn't clean the vc on my 89 w/140,000 and cured the blowby. Up to you. -
Am I missing something here? Are they not available at the dealer any longer? I bought some last year for $24 ea wholesale. I need another set, guess I'll call them.

There's so many of them out there, but it took me like 6 months to find the one I wanted. I bought mine used at a dealer. This dealer was the exception. I noticed some new parts on it, when I inquired about them, the salesman produced the work order showing everything replaced. Like $1500 worth of parts I haven't had to mess with, and its been a great ride. Not many dealers do things like that anymore, if ever, they just send it to the auction. Hope you find what you want.

No you don't have to drop the tank.

Had one break on my 4x4. Went to the pull a part and got one off a junk XJ. The old one had been welded once.

Pilot bearing puller. I bought a cheap one at Harbor Freight, $15. You'll have to modify it for the needle bearing, but since you've already got that out, you're good. Yes, I tried the grease method, and tried other tools, no luck. Didn't want to do more damage.

You're in CT? rejeep always has a used motor I'd like to get my hands on, but might as well be in Japan..

Can't answer that specifically. Can you hear the pump running? Mine wasn't running. My test light barely lit, I wished I had checked it with a voltmeter, but didn't. The ballast resistor was bad and the pump wasn't getting enough voltage. So, if your're trying to diagnose a problem that might help. If you just want to know, sorry.

I love the color, guess it reminds me of my old team green Kawasaki days.

It would be worth the wait, but you'd better latch on to that beaut'. Pull an old American thingy.......SICK DAY. 8)

Any idea on costs? Sorry about the hijack, but I got a system with the TJ I just bought. A converted fire extinguisher, and I'm not sure about it yet. Is this common?
