Update. Drove it to work for the first time. My little clear coat experiment didn't work to my satisfaction, so I'm doing a little spot painting. Did the tailgate and driver's door yesterday at work. Tailgat was really bad, bought another, but I won't use it now. I'll do a little bit each day at work. A few other issues cropped up, blower motor works on low only, wipers don't park, mainly minor things.. Brakes stink on this one also, Bench seat no where as comfy as buckets. Got to put this one on the back burner to lift the other one 3 inches. Passenger side looks a little better than it did.

Mine is the 2nd from the left, third row-PQ9, but it changed to a HQ9.

Didn't try that. But did try sanding. Got down to the paint before the flakes came off, go figure. I'm done now, got all that I could get. Got one side clearcoated. I'm gonna finish wet sanding with 1500 and clearcoat the other side. Not sure whats it's going to look like in the sun, has to be better than it was.

Well, this may sound stupid, but it seems to be working. Please understand that this may backfire, but like I've said, I have little to lose. The old clearcoat flakes off, so I'm helping it by shaving it off with a razorblade, being careful with the basecoat. Then I'm buffing the paint, to even up the basecoat, them removing all wax, contaminants with prepsolve, then spraying clearcoat(rattlecan). It's looking pretty good, some places you can't even tell. Hey, it's a $500 truck. Just time consuming. I'm pleased with the results so far. One good thing, the top and hood were repainted at some time, I just need to buff them out.

Just a little surface rust under the carpet just like my other one. Sanded it down and painted it. Just going to do a little spot repair. I'm removing the "white stuff" and re-clearcoating. May not be the hot fix, but what have I got to lose? Not going to do any major(expensive) work. Don't care if it looks perfect, just acceptable. Also, got a reciever hitch with the bumper, putting it on the 4x4 for recovery, the kids that pulled it said it went with bumper, I didn't argue.

Some before pics finally. Didn't get one of the front before I tore into it. I used the tailgate to experiment with the clearcoat problem, because I found a perfect one to replace it with, but I've actually got it looking pretty good. I've got a few places on the body looking good. Using a time consuming method, can't believe I 'm doing it, but since the paint sucks, and I have little money in this thing, what the heck. Found a better bumper to replace the one in pic for $35, will be painting it today at work. Gutted the interior, steam clened the carpet and seat, installed new speakers, got the interior lights working, got it looking pretty satisfactory. Wife hates the truck, she has no vision, I keep telling her, wait until I'm done. I just did one and she still has no faith. No payment, cheap insurance, and I'm having fun, she needs to get over it. Actually the pics make it look worse than it is. Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found

Thinking about a DIY roll-on bedliner. Yea or nay? Would you do that to your Comanche? Anybody have any experience with any? Got a plastic one in my 4x4, it's too narrow for my four wheeler, so I'm thinking about putting it in my 2x4 and doing the kit in my 4x4. Thanks!

I'll post more when I get time. I hit the ground running this morning, just now slowing down. I think it will suit my purposes nicely for now, I don't want another car payment right now.

Picked this up today for $500. No rust, strong motor, usual clearcoat issues. Front end damage, drivers side. 2wd. Planning for daily driving, and donor motor if the other Comanche lays down on me. Gotta get to work.

Maybe a first, but here's the culprit: Image Not Found

Anybody ever broke the clutch pedal? I haven't found any evidence so far. I wasn't driving it and I'm stuck at the fire station so I haven't looked at it. I'm hoping it will be a straight forward repair. There was one manual tranny XJ at the pull-a-part, so I'll be heading up there when I get off. tommorow.

Getting Ready to Start My First MJ
KYMJ replied to StylerG's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
They're awful. Still trying to decide what I need to do to help mine. -
Yeah I meant from the fenderwell in, with the nut on the outside of the frame, between the frame and alternator.
-
I noticed the alternater. Looks like there will be just enough room for the nut. I'm going to try that size bolt, using a nut on the outside of the frame with a washer, when I get off in 48 hours. Thanks.
-
I've put a dozen or so sets of 'hooks on ZJ's and WJ's, but putting a set on my Comanche was no fun at all. Now the question-How about the bolt in the furthest back hole on the frame bracket. I'm figuring maybe a 1/2x3 or there abouts will work. Does that sound right? I didn't have one to try and I got called into work tommorow for an extra shift, so I thought I'd ask. Thanks!

Went to a friends house today and saw a Comanche for sale on the side of the road. Although I'm looking for another, this one didn't suit me. If anyone else is interested, here goes-I believe it's an 86 or 87 2wd, therefore 2.8 or 4 cyl. more than likely (strike one). Auto on the tree (strike 2). Long bed(strike 3). Body looks solid, a few easily repairable dents. I didn't look long, but I didn't see any indications of rust anywhere and it was on gravel and I didn't get a real good look at the floorboards, but what I saw looked good. Gray exterior, decent bench seat, rubber floor mat, PLAIN JANE and drab. The guy had $1600 on the windshield. Not a $1600 truck IMHO, but it might be OBO. I can get the number if anybody is interested.
-
Thanks! Exactly what I needed.

Anybody have a pic of the "other" brackets. I bought some brackets and 'hooks just like the picture, without the other brackets, guess I'll fab some. Thanks.
-
Sorry, never had any problem with him.

Don't know when and if I'll get to this. I'm not finding anything out on the internet. This is what I know so far. The measured length of my Comanche springs is 12.25 (in the truck), my UpCountry springs measure 17.5., so I believe there is something to be gained. I'm hoping I can go with a 2or3 inch AAL. I've been fooling with Grands so long all this is new to me. My gut feeling is to go with Rusty's 3 inch kit for $245 and be done with it. I don't want to be installing and removing springs over and over, but I guess I'll put them in when I get time and see what I get. This won't be a hard core wheeler. I'm still wanting a TJ for that.
-
I'm going to give it a shot. I'm getting a full length 2" AAL. All I'll be out is the cost of that and a little sweat equity.
-
To anybody who has used these. I have a never installed set of ZJ Up-Country coils that never made it on the ZJ. Would it be worth it, and what would be a good set-up for the rear, to go with them? Did a search and got 14 bazillion reply's. I'll try to read through them tommorow. Thanks!

Been awhile since I've seen any those wheels.

Been lurking around awhile, love my little truck and hope to get another someday:
