  1. This may or may not apply to your situation but double check your vacuum lines are all correctly in place. I spent money at a smog shop for repairs to get my 88 to pass smog. Five days later and $$$ I told the owner to cash me out since he couldn't figure out why it ran so rich. I took it to another guy recommended by a friend and within a few minutes he noticed the vac line from TB to MAP was dangling below the motor and the MAP was connected to a T above the evap canister. He corrected the problem and solved the smog issue. I felt like an idiot for assuming the first shop would have checked the lines for correctness and for not checking them myself upon purchasing the truck. Lesson learned!
  2. I thought this was pretty cool if someone wanted a Willy. http://sandiego.craigslist.org/esd/cto/2159918445.html
  3. Actually, it looks pretty good. Remember, the black paint usually oxidizes worse than other colors because it heats up more. It's worth going to look at and trying to talk them down with cash in your pocket.
  4. Very high asking price but it is dressed up with upgrades. http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/cto/2157733341.html
  5. Happy Birthday Pete! You, your work, the Mods, and this site means a lot to me and the other members. There's more than just tech info on here. There is a sense of brotherhood (and sisterhood) that goes beyond our common interest in the Comanche and you are the guy who makes it happen. Thank you. Mark. (Mark J. Remillard aka MJRemi)
  6. Found it. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=27191&p=275238&hilit=ba10+or+ax15+transmission#p275238
  7. Engine size? 2.5 = ax5. 4.0 = ba10 or ax15. There are pics of both side by side in a previous post if you scroll through or search. If you can lift your shifter boot and see where it is mounted to the top of the transmission, the ba10 has 3 bolts and the ax15 has 4.
  8. Dropped off the 88 at a mechanic who was highly recommended by a friend that has an XJ. Two things need to be done asap. Needs to pass smog ( running SUPER rich ) and having the AX15 installed. Should get it back next week.
  9. Prop it up on some type of frame, paint it yellow & green, and name him John.
  10. I think 64 Cheyenne did a detailed write up in the DIY section. Look for it there.
  11. These are blemished but perfectly functional. 5 X 4.5 http://www.spidertrax.com/Blemished-1987-06-Wrangler
  12. Have you checked the electrical wires that run to the MAP. Perhaps there is a bad connection causing the sensor to misread.
  13. I've looked around but can't seem to find how ,exactly, to remove a front fender panel. I need to get to the door hinges. Thanks!

  15. A) Try to replace the grates with a flatter material. B) Shorten the crank by relocating the knob closer to the spindle and trimming off excess handle material.
  16. I asked the same thing a few months ago. Read the following post. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=25237
  17. Not a bad price for this one. http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/2104397693.html
  18. Seems like a nice truck for the price. http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/ct ... 39336.html

    Happy New Year

Happy New Year from California!
  20. Welcome and Happy New Year!! This site is as addicting as owning a Comanche.
  21. Today I picked up a ECU from an 87 MJ to swap into my 88, trying to get it to pass emissions. I asked the mechanic how long to install and he said "maybe" by the end of the day. I took it home, searched the forums, and found some hints. It took me awhile but I managed to do the swap. Those bracket bolts are a PIA to get to. I also installed some JY finds. Glove box lid, hockey stick door handle, and parking light lens.
  22. I wish I had known about those insulation panels. I used expanding spray foam insulation on my roll-up doors but now they don't roll up. Can't seem to figure out what I did wrong. :dunno: ;)

    Another MJ?

I just spent $200 on a few parts at a typically, overpriced, San Diego junk yard. If you can get a parts truck for $150, get it.
  24. Hopefully I will get my truck back from the shop on Thursday. The owner/mechanic seems to know what to test but i don't think the MJ is a priority for him. I really need to learn how to do this work for myself. The labor and mark-up costs are killing me. I'll be glad to get this smogged so I can move on to the transmission swap.
  25. I came across a 95XJ 2wd that had the tranny in the back of the vehicle along with various parts. It is a 2wd AX15. I took the crossmember and the shift lever. It's at Ecology Auto Wrecking in Oceanside, CA. The XJ is a red 2 door Sport. Grey interior. Sorry no pics.
