  1. If it weren't for the dirt on the end of the bed, next to the tail gate, I'd buy it right now!! Oh yeah, and if I had some money. :brows:

    An even dozen

I suppose when we have our first Annual Comanche Roundup it will have to be at your place since you won't be able to move all those trucks. Although, it would be pretty damn cool to see you rolling up in a full size, 12 vehicle big rig car hauler. :jump:
  3. Thanks! I thought that but I had to be sure before making a 45 minute trip.
  4. I can't seem to find what I know has been posted. Q: How many bolts are there at the base of the shifter rod connecting to top of transmission on a ba10 v. ax15? A guy on CL is selling his from an 89 XJ but doesn't know which one and has no pictures. He said it has 3 bolts. If it's a ba10, I'll pass.
  5. This engine was professionally rebuilt 1 year ago under previous ownership. Would the harmonic balancer have been part of that process? I saw a DIY on that so I think I'll try to inspect it when I replace the damaged pulley. All this "mechanical" stuff is somewhat new to me but with help from CC I think I can venture in past my comfort zone.
  6. I test drove the 88 the other day after tightening up some hose clamps. After about 2 minutes of driving I heard whining from the engine. Went back home and opened the hood to see/hear the problem. The belt was the culprit and it was pretty loud. After shutting off the engine I could see the belt was sliding off the pulleys toward the engine block. The water pump pulley looks to have some small dents around the inside edges. I think I can figure out how to re-seat the belt but what causes the sliding and how do I prevent that in the future? Also, is it difficult to replace the damaged pulley or should I hire a pro? I don't want to drive very far with the belt slipping but there is a shop about 3/4 of a mile from my house.

  8. Alright, thanks for the details. To be clear, I have a 2wd 88 and do not plan on converting to 4wd at this time. The "good deal" used AX15 is a 4wd w/o the transfer case. I probably will be better off hunting for a 2wd AX15 but if that proves too impossible, then I will have to follow your guidelines on the 4wd version. Thanks for the info.
  9. Given his 4.0 is an 88, I'm assuming he's just upgrading from a pukey. What year is the AX-15? If it's 92+ You'll need the 74 CJ 304 pilot bushing. The T-case is a 93. I think the guy had it in a XJ but not sure. I really don't know enough about 4wd to ask the right questions. The BA10 is on it's last legs and I will not invest $$ into it. If you could tell me EXACTLY what I need to transition to a NP231 via the easiest/cheapest route, I welcome any and all input. Thanks, Remi.
  10. Thanks JeepcoMJ! I'll try that route. Now I just have to find a great deal on a T-case.
  11. So it will drive just fine with a transfer case even though it's 2wd? I have very little know-how of mechanical things and zero of 4wd things, so sorry if my questions are basic in nature.
  12. I can get a 4wd ax15 for a good price but a have a 2wd. Can it work , and how??
  13. Congrats!! I just purchased a 88 Eliminator to be my project truck and i will refer to your build often to get ideas.
  14. Thanks. So I guess I can drive it without trouble from those two items at least. Good to know.
  15. Looks like a fun project. How do you guys find such inexpensive junkyards? I went yesterday for my virgin trip to a San Diego junkyard that specializes in trucks and suvs. I saw four XJs and one of them was a Limited in great condition. I was going to go crazy with stripping it until I was quoted some prices. $100 per door. $90 dash. $100 front grill. $90 bumper. $800 D44 etc.,etc. I composed myself and left with a nice leather steering wheel and a passenger side pivot wing window assembly. $70 for both. Anyway, have fun with the couch and don't forget to hook the tail lights up for ambiance.
  16. While looking around on the project 88 I saw a line next to the BA10 (L side ) that wasn't hooked up. Can someone tell me what this is and does it need immediate attention? Also, next to the bottom left of the rad I saw this unhooked device. There are many other questions I will have in the near future. Thanks for any help.
  17. Have a great Thanksgiving everyone. I look forward to the meal each year but this year I can't help but think about spending time off work to get some parts for the 88 I just picked up. I think someday in the near future there is going to have to be a "nervous hospital" constructed to house all of us that suffer from Jeep Comanche Disorder or JCD, as it it known in the medical field.
  18. http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/cto/2074436240.html Even though it's a Comache :shake: , it's still for sale near San diego.
  19. I'll look around for those years. I want this to be as simple of a swap as possible. The cross member info is good to know. Pardon my ignorance on the next one. Do I need a transfer case on a 2wd?
  20. Since I just bought this project MJ knowing the tranny is going south, I don't want to put money into a BA10. I will put a reman ax5 or ax15 in it's place but I don't know the pros & cons of either one. Is the ax15 better and are there issues with fitting it into place when the BA10 comes out. This truck is going to be a very good quality restoration project so I don't mind reasonable differences in cost. 1988 MJ 4.0 2wd 5spd Any input is appreciated. Thanks!
  21. A) What is it that says Eliminator? I don't know how to tell from the options. B) No, I did not get permission from wifey. She thought I was going to pick up a couple parts, not an entire truck. The fight went on for quite some time. Luckily, I have two dogs because I will be rooming with them for an undetermined period of time.

    Its my birthday

You are younger than every MJ Comanche ever built. Happy Birthday.
  23. I found this 88 on CL a few days ago and thought it would be gone by Saturday, which is the first chance I had to drive 70 miles to see it. It's a running 88 4.0 2wd 5spd swb with 300k on it BUT the engine is a shop complete rebuild with 2k on it and documentation to prove it. ($1600). Now, a year later, the gears are starting to grind and the elderly woman owner doesn't want to put any more $$ into it. So..... it was offered at $850 due to the tranny and a lot of cosmetic issues needing attention. For $600 I took it to it's new home to be my project truck. I hope the following photos come through. If not, I will work on getting pics posted as well as registry info. Also, I realize it looks a lot like my 89 2.5 :D Image Not Found Image Not Found

If you have the back wall carpet panel and/or the headliner panel, I would be very interested.
