  1. So my dash and tail lights worked when I dropped off my truck (oh shaddap ) for a serious coolant leak which turned out to be the water pump. While replacing the pump, the shop also replaced my serpentine belt and thermostat. Upon picking up the truck (dark out) I watched my dash lights quickly dim and go dark which I confirmed at home that my taillights were out. Next day testing showed my brake lights, back ups, and hazard/turn lights all work. Still no parking lights. I checked the bulbs. Replaced two. I checked the parking lamp fuse (amongst others) and replaced it. No taillights still. During this round, my L. turn signal stays solid but the R. flashes. Coincidence? I think not! But you know the shop will deny any connection to the lights. What should I check next and what ,if anything, might the shop have done to trigger this perfect electrical storm? Any input is welcome.
  2. ........if your insurance company wants to total your truck because you have a cracked taillight.

    Paint Job

Those are called highlights and men in certain cities would pay big bucks for that. :D
  6. Thanks for all the input Guys! If I don't find an MJ with the set up I want, I'll go the XJ donor route. Problem is I am not a mechanical wizard like some of you so I would have to pay for a lot of the swap work and that could really rack up the cost. Whichever I decide, I will post up on CC. :typing:
  7. That's a great find. I hope you did OK on the price and be sure not to back out into the support pole holding up the barn door  .
  8. I would like to someday convert my shortbed 89 MJ from 2.5 to 4.0 and from 4spd to either 5spd or auto. My question is ,as I'm shopping for donors, does it matter if the XJ is a 4dr or 2dr? I know there are a lot more 4dr but if I can get a 2dr I can also use the bucket seats to replace my vinyl bench. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

    New Guy

:waving: Welcome aboard! I'm also a recently new member and I think you will find this site to be a trove of good information. There are quite a few , very knowledgeable members and everyone seems eager to help a fellow Jeeper. I had trouble with pics also but it worked out when I opened a photobucket acct to post from there.
  10. I believe Commanche is the French spelling of the Spanish word to describe the Indians known to the English speaking Americans as Comanches. OK, I'll shut up now. :dunce:
  11. ;) 8)  :clapping: OK , so they don't appear until I submit the post. Got it!
  12. All Comanches are Hybrids. Sometimes they run on gasoline, and sometimes they don't!
  13. That's a long stretch. I drove a non-stop (except for gas) from Portland, OR to San Diego once and I was wiped out. You're lucky to have the 4.0 . In my 2.5 anything above 75mph feels like re-entering the atmosphere in a space shuttle.

Image Not Found I bought this 89 Sportruck in 2002 hoping it would last 2 yrs while I did some remodeling and landscaping. It was a good size and ugly as heck so dents and scratches were of no concern. I put new tires from Costco and got a tune up w/ oil change. That was about all I did to it for about 7 yrs while using it for Home depot and dump runs, putting about 1000 mi. per year as the spider webs encased the lower half. As the years went by and I knew I could depend on this truck, I decided to drive it almost daily. It has never broken down and has always started. I acquired two dogs and figured a shell on the truck would suit their travel needs so I found this brand new shell for $300 and then I bought $120 of spray can bedliner and "painted " the entire truck except for the bed, of course. So anyhow, this is a 2.5 2wd 4spd with bench seat. I just turned 140k and put almost new Michelins on '97 xj rims to replace the ugliest rims that came with it. Thanks for this site, it's beyond great! Remi.

  20. Thanks to All for the input. I'm going to look at the 87 today after work. If flickr will work (w/ Shawn's suggestion) I should have some pics soon. If it doesn't, then I will switch to Photobucket.
  21. Depending on the mileage it would go for $1800 to $2500 here in So. Cal.
  22. I'm starting to think you have this thing about rust:). I figured I'd check the usual stuff but wanted to know if there were certain engine or tranny concerns for the 87.
  23. Hi all, I'm looking at a local 87 MJ 4x4 4.0 5spd. I have a 89 2x4 2.5 4spd. Is there anything in particular I should focus on concerning the 87 model that is unique to that year? I really would love to get the 4.0 4x4 even if I have to sell the 89 to do it, let alone the fact that my wife will probably kill me when she finds out I'm even considering getting a "new" Comanche. Also, has anyone been able to use flickr for photos? I can't seem to make it work..or should I just switch to a different photo site? Thanks.
  24. I'm fairly new to CC and tried using flickr to launch photos but can't seem to make it work. Has anyone been able to use flickr or do I need to use another photo site?

    JY find

I'm jealous! I have been looking for a rear bumper for quite some time and am always on the lookout for the 2dr XJ seats so I don't have to slide around on my vinyl bench. You have a good find.
