I'll take one!!

So a welder can fix this? That's good news. I really didn't want to dish out 50-100 on a new, used shifter. Thanks!
-
I just bought a AX15 but the shifter was bent at the knob threads rendering it basically useless. Image Not Found I also need to get a crossmember.
-
I'm in the same boat. I need to find a AX15 crossmember. I did see an adapter plate on Advance Adapters website that states it attaches to the BA/10 crossmember to specifically mount the NV3550 tranny. Isn't that the same as the AX15? The item # is 716007. Has anyone tried this adapter plate?

Wait 2 days and if it's still there, offer him 350 or 400. He makes a couple hundred and you get a cheap Comanche. That's different than a Cheep Comanche. Here in San Diego most MJs are sold by Hispanic fellows so when you call them they say they have a Cheep Comanche. Just an observation.

This is weird! Just this morning I drove about 90 miles to pick up anAX15 (one way) and on the way back I was wondering how many CC members drive their MJs long distance. My 89 has never broken down but it still is a 22 yr old truck. Then I wondered how many of us would drive long distance without a cell phone or similar communication device. Just that that was weird after reading this post! :hmm:

Pete stated on an earlier ax15 post by Jimoshel to check the diameter of the spindle to tell the 89-91 vs. 92+. I just picked up a 2wd ax15 with internal slave but don't know if I need to buy an appropriate pilot bushing before taking it to the tranny shop. If anyone knows what exactly I should measure, please let me know. I posted some pics, so this might help. There were #s on a metal tag on top but after three rounds of GUNKing it, I can no longer read the numbers.

Maybe he will let you roll the MJs into the garage on Sundays to work on them. Is your Dad going to be OK with you being his Boss in a couple years? :D
-
That could be enlarged into a poster and hung up on your wall or sold to the Pub to hang up on theirs.

Congratulations!! That is a real accomplishment. I would have stayed in longer but our Scout Master was kinda nutty with the NRA course and started doing things that were fairly dangerous. I wish now that I had stuck it out. Sounds like there should be a Comanche Badge!
-
Hence why he said if he got a 92 or newer. Actually he said '92 or older. I'm not arguing, technically we're both right That's true, I did say "older". ( I meant newer of course) Now shake hands !!

From what I've learned from other members, if you can get inside the vehicle, check the shifter connection to the top of the tranny. BA10 has 3 bolts and AX15 has 4.
-
Thanks Guys, I'll search Autozone tomorrow for the bushing. I meant shifter but I thought that was the same thing as a shifter rod. I don't think the BA10's will fit so if the ax15 doesn't come with one, I'll shop around. I'm just glad the drive shaft is the same. I can't wait to get this tranny installed and enjoy driving the "project" without grinding gears. On a side note, I read the post about the Sea Foam solvent. Never knew about it but now eager to try that stuff out.

Believe it or not I actually found a 2wd ax15 and I'm picking it up on Sunday. The seller has no photos and is not sure what the year of it is or what it came out of. If it is 92 or older I know I have to get the 74CJ 304 pilot bushing as well as the shorter drive shaft. I can't seem to locate that pilot bushing. A) Does anyone have a source for that part or do I need to search JYs? B) What drive shaft length do I need and is there a specific one that will work so I can try to locate it locally? C) Are there certain shifter rods I need to look for? I don't know if the tranny comes with one or not. Any help is welcome!!

I replaced the MAP sensor and coolant overflow bottle with new ones. I removed my door panels and scrubbed them down with 409 and Clorox to get decades of dirt and grease cleaned off. The PO apparently had no sense of cleanliness since the entire cab is filthy.

That's for the little red wagon. I saw one with a bike rack attached so it could be carried on the back of any bicycle and another one with backpack straps so you can bring it into the house. :D

A filthy air cleaner question.
MJRemi replied to MJRemi's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks. The hoses look new so I'm guessing the PO had them replaced when they did the rebuild but apparently failed to clean out the air box. I always thought the air flowed out the back of the box, not realizing it can flow into the box from the engine. -
 If the truck has no major malfunctions, buy it. Most of the guys on here would jump at the chance to get a 92 with super low miles. WHEN you do BUY it, post some pics so we can see this great find.

The 88 I just obtained failed the smog test last week. I replaced the MAP with a new one and started double checking all the air and vacuum hoses. The large diameter hose from the air filter box had a crinkle under the hose clamp so I dismantled the air box connections to see if I could straighten it out. Upon inspection, I saw a large amount of black gunk coating the entire end of the air box adjacent to the rear end hoses. It took 30 minutes to really clean all the crap out of the interior. It seemed like semi dry oil or grease. What would be the source of this greasy gunk and how do I prevent this in the future?

I was always for the Registry idea but until today I kept putting it off as something I would do "next time". As of today, I am registered with both trucks and apologize for the delay. :thwak:

Serpentine belt whining & sliding off.
MJRemi replied to MJRemi's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I was able to get the belt pulled back onto the pulley with some effort. It seemed to stay put during a short test drive. I'm taking the truck into a shop to get smogged so I'll have them adjust the belt tension to spec. Thanks to all for the help!
