Thanks Hornbrod! I picked up that socket at Sears along with a 1/2" socket wrench. Now I get to figure out how to remove the nut. I've been cranking on it but can't seem to break it loose. I soaked it with PB so we'll see if it will cooperate tomorrow. The axle is up on stands so I think setting it on the floor and securing the yoke should help.

I took apart the D44 drum brakes for a full inspection. I cleaned up all the hardware and installed new wheel cylinders. I have never worked on brakes before and putting it all back together correctly was a lesson in patience. I think Mike Rowe should work on brakes for his next Dirty Jobs episode. What a dusty, rusty mess. :wrench:

I'd like to install a new pinion seal in the D44 before I swap in the axle. The nut is larger than any socket I have in my limited arsenal so I'll have to buy the proper one. Does anyone know what size nut holds the yoke in place? And when I remove the nut and seal, is that going to mess up the gear positions because I don't want to try and figure out how to align everything?

I'm at work so I can't measure the tube diameter but it's just a soft, rubber hose that fits onto the MAP nipple. I swapped out all the shocks with KYB gas-a just shocks that I got from a wrecked 86. The shocks were only 6 mos. old so they are like new. I also installed the spare tire mount mechanism from the 86 since my cable was snapped. I swapped in my rotating receiver bar due to the 86 being a LB and the bar is much longer.

Welcome Karlo! I'm the guy that emailed you about the axle in San Diego and told you about Comanche Club. I don't mean to hijack but can someone tell me what exactly to measure to determine drum size? I'm getting ready to replace all the components on the D44 brakes. -

Just tell them you are having a bachelor party for your cousin, Harry N. Pierst, and you have to hide in the garage to surprise him. Once you get them all in place , lock the doors and inform them that nobody is going anywhere until this damn truck is running properly. Of course, you'll have to provide food and beer along with hiring a talented exotic dancer!

My swap was 2wd so the T case stuff beyond my knowledge. The AX15 is the same length as the Peugeot so the drive shaft length should be fine. The AX15 crossmember has a drop section in the center (approx. 1" ) to accept the AX15 mount. You could try to fab something but you are probably much better off locating the correct mount and crossmember. -
I decided to change the oil so off to Walmart. Out of Rotella. Wary about switching to synthetic after reading a few forums. Remembered reading store brand Super Tech is good quality, so I bought the 10w30. Looked up the filters in the hanging catalog and Jeep only went to '92 so i got the one for '92 MJ/XJ. Before going to get supplies I wanted to drain the oil and remove the filter to compare. The plug was on so tight it took about 20 minutes of wrenching to loosen and thankfully did not strip the bolt. :fs1: Oh, and when I attempted to place the metal filter wrench onto the filter, it touched the starter and I got to watch the fireworks display 12" above my face. " Why" you ask, "is this idiot removing the filter from below and not above"? Because the oil pressure sensor and the charcoal canister are placed just close enough to prevent use of the filter wrench. :wall: I then disconnect the battery and remove the oil sensor and, from above, remove the filter which has no size indication what-so-ever. (Champ brand) Hence, the buying of the '92 filter at Walmart. Back home with the goods. Installed drain plug to the proper torque and of course could not thread the filter onto the threaded rod. Looked at the new Mopar filter next to the old Champ filter and couldn't tell any difference. I drove to Autozone with the Champ part number and also took the Mopar. After discussing the dilema with the 19 year old girl expert, I left with the 20mm size Bosch filter and completed my oil change with no further delays. Thank you for letting me vent and if you don't want to read this entire rant, please stop after the first couple lines.

Here in So. Cal. the truck would be around 4K according to the set up and the pitbull would be around $200 depending on training & temperment.

I'm really impressed with the people who are selling a Comanche and they don't know what it is or how to spell it. We have all seen the misspellings and the "89' Jeep truck with a v6". :dunno: But hey, those are the ones that usually sell on the cheap.
