  1. WOW! I don't know what that substance is but be sure to clean out the axle tubes along with the differential. Good luck!
  2. I'm getting tired of setting my alarm at 0159 hours to wake up just to change my clock. :dunce: I think I'll move to Arizona.
  3. So a gauge switch is what it is actually called. I've heard them called different things, which leads to confusion at parts stores.
  4. On my 4.0s, they look like these:http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Result.aspx?Ntt=oil+pressure&Ntk=Keyword&Nty=1&Dn=0&D=oil+pressure&Dk=1&Dp=3&N=0

  6. Those are the "flag style" mirrors that some trucks came with. My 89 had them.
  7. I was flipping through the Web page photos of the destruction caused by the recent tornadoes and just wanted to extend my concern to anyone in those regions. I pray you and your loved ones are safe and well!
  8. If the brakes lock up, then you are just sliding on the surface without any real control of the truck. My 4x4 had the valve removed by the PO and not properly adjusted regarding brake fluid distribution. I was driving on the highway in rush hour and had to brake a little harder than normal due to a sudden slow in traffic and my rear brakes just locked up. I slid toward the car in front of me but luckily was able to stop before colliding.
  9. Thanks, I was searching on Yahoo images for a comparison side by side photo but didn't find one.
  10. I removed the diff. cover on my 87 to change fluid and reseal due to a slight leak. Upon seeing the gears, it seems to be different than my 2wd 88 but now I can't remember for sure. Can you tell from the photo if this is open or posi? I'm going to sell the 87 in the near future and want to be sure if the question comes up. Thanks! Why did my image disappear?
  11. Wallet sized photos? Small vial of engine oil??

  13. It's 2" wire flex hose and auto parts stores carry it. It comes in 3 ft (max extension) length and made of aluminum. In CA I have to have it in place to visually pass the smog requirements even though it never gets cold here and is completely unnecessary.
  14. Haynes says 7.2 pints of 75W-90 GL-5 but doesn't distinguish between BA10/5 and AX15. Just keep filling until you feel the fluid level at the fill plug. Any quality name brand should be fine.
  15. I'm not sure how the test was done since I was at work but the tech said they have to test the system under pressure and twice the test revealed a leak. And if I need to replace the pump hose as JeffN suggests, does the assembly just pull out. I've never had to mess with the tank before and am a little nervous about that.
  16. I am selling my 88 swb 4.0 and had my son take it to get smogged for the buyer (CA law requires seller to smog). He called me at work to tell me it failed. The smog tech told me the fuel pressure test showed a leak in the system and it could be simple (cheap) or difficult (expensive) to locate the leak. If this is going to cost more than $100 or so, I will either cannibalize and/or part out the truck or relinquish the truck to the State for $1000. Starting with the most common and simplest sources of leak, where do I start and how do I re-test? Thanks

That is a real beauty. I can't believe some 20 year old didn't get hold of it and pimp it out. Nice find!
  18. PM sent.
  19. About a week ago, I had the exact same reaction as Gus except I was watching The Hooter's Dreamgirl 2012 competition. :brows: I got in trouble because apparently there is a very strong possibility that I'm going to run off with one of the contestants. :dunno:
  20. It might be the driver's seatbelt chime. Check the hump mounted end of your seatbelt and see if it is disconnected.
  21. What is the main purpose of the pistol? Concealed carry, home protection, or target? For CCW I would go with a Glock 27 (40 cal) or Colt Defender (45 cal). For home protection, go with something that has maximum stopping power but is simple to operate. Under extreme stress, you don't want anything complicated. For plinking, get a 9mm since ammo is cheap and it can be used for protection if you don't mind having to put multiple rounds into the bad guy in order to stop them. Whatever you decide, get very proficient with the weapon and go shooting every few months to stay that way.
  22. I bought a new Canyon in '05 for the crew cab and overall looks of the truck. I soon had trouble with it stalling on deceleration and/or turns and also felt it was underpowered when accelerating onto the freeways. That was the inline 5cyl motor. I sold it within a year. In '08 they came out with a 5.3 V8 (LH8) engine and I have not heard whether or not if this set-up had any issues.
  23. I'm guessing just the bellhousing.
  24. If you get the 4x4 with a cheap TC you can use it without hooking up the front and just leave it in 2wd for the rear shaft.
  25. Here's a AX5 in Hesperia, CA about 2 hours from Vegas... $175. 2000 XJ 2wd http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/pts/2818832664.html
