No, 3.07 to 3.08 is no problem and that is way the factory put them in there. You are talking about 1/100 of a revolution differnce. The widest range I know of from the factory is 4.27:1 & 4.30:1but I have read that a much wider range than that is acceptable. IF you know someone who can weld you could probably buy an XJ 8.25 and new perches to be welded on to MJ specs for about $100.

Just about every other jeep or 4x4 made since the mid-80's and '90-newer Comanches abandoned the CAD for a reason... and there seems to be no adverse effect on mileage or wear. The CAD system still allows more parts to move than lock-out hubs anyway. As to the posi-lok: I have seen issues with them off-road in which the cable does not have enough slack and they break/mess up upon flexing. One came with the spare parts I got with the first MJ I bought but after looking into it I craigslisted that bad boy.

Besides: you may be asking on the wrong forum. Plenty of jeep-on-jeep hate goes on here.

Liberty H8'ers Got Their Wish...replacement To Be Called "cherokee"
Incommando replied to Incommando's topic in The Pub
Unfortunately with CAFE increasing to ever ridiculous levels there will be fewer and fewer vehicles being manufactured that will then be suitable for most off-road enthusiasts' needs once those vehicles get a few miles/years on them. -

Actually the XJ was hated ( at least by Jeep fans) for the first few years of production. It was a very under-powered tall Volvo 240 wagon clone with white-wall tires. So it will probably make the exact same waves it did in the fall of '83... -

Get a load of this, enjoy - think this is the hardtop cj-8??
Incommando replied to Oddmodman's topic in The Pub
That is not a (&^( Wrangler!!!! :D Yeah, the extended but still removable CJ8 hard top is not as cool as that factory hardtop that is part of the body. Cruising in one of those would be cool. -
I have had horrible luck with Goodyears and will never buy a set again. The last 3 times I had them I was very disappointed. The MT/R's I had were hands down the worst tires I have ever owned. The off-brand M/T's of the same size that I replaced them with held a balance ( the MT/R's would not), lasted 20,000 miles longer, and performed better off road in the terrain I wheeled in. The wear pattern of the MT/R's, even with 3,000 mile rotations, just plain sucked. The other two sets were also OEM installations. Junk, pure junk. I realize that Goodyear and the others make the exact same tire to different specs to satisfy the vehicle manufacturer but in the end it is their rep that gets trashed. That being said the Wranglers you purchased at Wallyworld may or may not be the same as the one's that had the good reviews. WW is notorious for forcing manufacturers to change items in order to meet their price point. :fs1:

This is not actually a CJ10A flightline tug. It COULD be a rare example of a CJ10 in this country or a pic from a market where they were sold but is most likely a project vehicle assembled from two or more vehicles. The CJ10A's pictured above are heavily modified to get to the point that they appear in those pics. The CJ10A had a tiny 88" wheelbase that was on a custom shortened wagoneer frame (109" wheelbase). The easiest way to convert one into a CJ10 clone is to swap the front cab onto an actual wagoneer frame using the waggy engine/tranny/et all. Then you custom build a bed or adapt a bed like an '80's size mini truck bed onto it. You can dump all of the tug stuff from the back of one and put a tiny bed on it but you are still stuck with a transmission that only has first gear capability and no front axle diff. The transfer case is locked into "low" permanently and is only used for gear reduction and there is of course no front drive shaft. Actual CJ10A tug: http://www.google.com/imgres?hl=en&sa=X ... 1,s:0,i:79

If you remove the cubic millions our government has given even foreign entities to subsidize this technology and then force the manufacturers to sell them at an unsubsidized price that would include all of the R/D costs they will never be economically feasible IMHO. Considering the higher average income of a hybrid buyer VS. the average buyer of a car in the same size class this means that all of the taxpayers are subsidizing the better off's so that they can clog our roads driving like idiots.

As a life-long Mopar fan I am again at a cross-roads with Chrysler. They were a German company and therefore a foreign company under Daimler-Chrysler and now that Fiat has exceeded 50% ownership they are an Italian company. To me "assembly point" doesn't make a vehicle American or whatever. Company ownership does. Honda "assembles" Accords in Ohio but do you think Honda will claim to be a Japanese or an American company? Exactly. Does anyone consider GM a German company or an Australian company because they assemble cars in each of those countries? Although neither Italy or Germany screw us on trade nearly as hard as Japan does I still have this thing about buying foreign large ticket items unless there is no option... :wall:

The Dart looks very promising. There have been issues with the "lifetime" warranty for those that pay for it. The fine print is the same that most warranties cover in that it only replaces items that failed due to “defects in workmanship and materials.” An engine that fails at 150,000 miles is going to be considered "normal wear and tear" of a part that had exceeded its design parameters and not a "“defect in workmanship and materials.” The 3.6L totally transformed the JK. Too bad the chassis/suspension still limits the trailer capacity 2,000 pounds WITH the tow package. It should be capable of much more. The MJ was rated at 5,000 pounds with the tow package.

You are absolutely right. Had you bought a Corolla wagon ( Matrix) to equal the size & standard features of the Prius to make it more of an apples to apples comparison your numbers would be comparable with my Sonic's. Other than ego or "bragging rights" at the juice bar there is no economic advantage in the hybrid proposition.

( I expected a comeback about at least having days worth a warning for a hurricane where an idiot like me lives where a tornado can drop on my head with no warning over half of the year... :D )

I have no idea who would be stupid enough to drive a "Smart" car: poor mileage for the what you give up, worse than pedestrian performance, NO room, bizarre tranny, and high price tag for what you get. So for $16,100 ( at least $8,000 less than the MSRP for a stripper Prius... they go as much as $37K or $21,000 higher) I have a loaded '12 Chevy Sonic Turbo that is a blast to drive, that gets a legitimate 42 MPG HWY, and I average 37 MPG in mixed driving while running the @$$ off of this thing ( hard acceleration and exceeding 100 MPH regularly). Honest prius owners report having trouble meeting Toy's MPG estimates in real world driving doing wild and crazy stuff like keeping up with traffic upon acclerating, driving on the highway at or near the flow of traffic, or having the audacity to go up hills or use the A/C... :D. Using $4 a gallon for gas and 20,000 miles a year of driving and the Prius actually reaching the 50 MPG estimate as a baseline shows that the $24,000 Prius "saves" $625/year in fuel. Even comparing a stripper Prius to my loaded Chevy that would mean it would take 12.8 YEARS (!!!!) to make up the difference in price in fuel savings. Add in replacing the battery pack ( Toyota lies their asses off in saying it will go 150,000 miles...again that pesky a/c usage, winter driving, hills... you know, stuff no car should be expected to have to endure... makes a difference) @$2500 plus labor a few times and the Prius buyer will NEVER save enough money on the Prius in the real world even if I replace the Sonic's engine. Now say we financed the purchase at 3.99% for 60 months while paying tax/title/etc...down. Going with the stripper Prius @ $24,000 gives us a payment of $478/ a month. A $16,100 Sonic would be $318. That is $160/month more for the Prius. Dividing that theoretical $625/yr in fuel savings of that stripper Prius over my Sonic gives us a difference of $52/month. So for the first FIVE YEARS we would lose $108/month in driving the Prius over the Sonic ($160 more a month for the payment minus $52/month fuel savings). Add in higher insurance costs and it is even worse. So adding the $108/month we lose by buying the prius X 60 ( the length of the note) to the $24,000 purchase price and the stripper Prius would be about $30,500 or $14,000 more than the Sonic! Using those corrected figure of $30,500 for a financed stripper Prius means an owner would have to drive that Prius for 24 years an 11 months to "save" enough money on fuel to make up for the the additional cost of buying the Prius ...And Hybrid owners go around congratulating themselves on how bright they are... Ever wonder why the ecoweenie hybrid drivers replace their hybrid with a conventional non-hybrid 65% of the time ( http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/business/20 ... echnology/ ) despite so many of them being obnoxious goofs on par with vegans? They abandon their soap boxes pretty often for SOME reason... And the best part: I bought an AMERICAN built vehicle ( Orion Twp, Michigan) from an AMERICAN company and did not give aid and succor to a country that has been waging economic warfare on us for decades. The fact that the economics of my purchase makes me look like Einstein to a hybrid buyer's Gump is icing on the cake.

So if you live where there are hurricanes, and have always been hurricanes, is it really shocking or news when a hurricane comes?

If you had a rod knock, what would you do?
Incommando replied to Dedaw's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Used 4.0. They are a dime a dozen compared to most other engines and WAY cheaper than the other options you list. It can be done in a day when most of the swaps, despite one's best laid plans, often stretch into a years or more or more or more... Are you SURE it is a rod knock? I have personally seen 4.0's ( and heard of several others) that the owner said had an engine knock when in fact a converter bolt had backed out and was hitting the block at every revolution. A long shot especially as you have a stick instead of the auto but worth checking....? -
Those of us old enough to have been jeep fans back then remember that the XJ was panned as a huge POS and the end of the jeep line when it was introduced. Think Volvo 240 wagon...

IIRC the factory rating is 5000#?

Nearly all of the white-bodied shocks used by about everyone are made by the same manufacturer and slapped with whatever house-brand sticker needs to go on them. IIRC it is Tenneco which is Monroe/Rancho???

Isn't that the basis of most churches? sorry guys but damn, he lost his business, now he's selling his truck I think karma took care of him. I just don't recall this much animosity towards the guy when he was active on here. I hope the CC community doesn't turn on me when I too decide to sell my truck, if and when the day comes. I by no means am defending his actions, but he did contribute to the site and information for various products. Damn I'm starting to sound like a bleeding heart. There better not be more changes like this in my life as I'm becoming a father. Most churches require that you admit your sins and then stop them. He has done neither of those things as far as anyone can see. Sell your MJ and leave? No problem. Steal money again and again from members and never make it right? Problem. There is no comparison between the two things. And remember: he left to avoid facing his victims THEN tried to sell his MJ. He did not sell his MJ and then leave. Losing his "business"??? His business has always been a front for his lies and scamming if you follow the trail. Losing it isn't the same as losing a legitimate business. Karma had better have a bigger kick then this in store for him. I would love to see something involving bars...

Meh. Boxing is and always has been about one step above wrasslin' for legitimacy. Paid dives occur far more often than anyone wants to admit throughout the many different levels of boxing. Any sport that hides the "score" until the very end to keep down crowd outrage and then they surprise you with a winner is pretty suspect. If they posted the scores after every round it would prevent some of the shenanigans...so they don't. It would be extremely easy to post scores after every round yet they refuse to do it. If a POS like Don King can thrive in the field you know it is less than pure...
