Went out of my way a few days ago out to the CarQuest where my GF works at to bring her some breakfast, and buy a few parts from her store. Bought this little sucker with the intent to replace my crappy one on the passenger side of the cab that only works 25% of the time. Problem with the new one is that it isn't a single spade like the old one; it's a plastic wedge piece. Removed the old one, and left the wiring sitting out of the hole enough to grab it with a pair of needlenose, and just as luck would have it, it got bumped into back into the depths of the inside of the cab. What exactly do I need to remove to gain access to be able to run it though the proper hole and screw in a new DJS? Also, anybody got a lead on a new DJS? The one from CQ doesn't fit at all; Exact fitting my @$$. :shake: Hopefully it wasn't one of those rare, "AMC ONLY" dealer parts I hear about from time to time. :ack:  I'm making a P&P run with a buddy of mine Tuesday morning to Orlando and Daytona Beach; and there's at least 10 Cherokees in each I can pull at least 4 out of. Inquiring minds want to know in case of premature failure of the junk ones...

AFAIK the last pair of NOS MJ taillights ended up being bought for over $400. Not bad for the guy who sold the 2 hunks of red plastic. Shoulda snagged yourself a nice J10, just to tide you over and possibly bring home the MJ with.

Drove it over to my friend's house to celebrate his 20th birthday with him and another buddy. Then we went out for breakfast, and then gave his car a wash. So much for being the birthday boy. I thought you were supposed to make everyone do everything else for you? :shake: Not so, apparently. I guess it'll be worth it when he gets it paid off in 2 years. ;)

Made the mistake of looking at this while drinking my morning brew. My brew is now all over my computer desk; oh well :rotfl2: :clapping: I agree with all of the above here. I personally don't go to a Dr. unless I happen to break one of my many appendages; but it couldn't hurt. I usually take what they say with a grain of salt anyway. Most of 'em are half hype, and half truth. I'm sure that your GF could find you a good one around though. It'd be a real shame to not hear about you picking up Jeeps for a few sticks of gum and a $.50 candy bar  Besides who else could I buy a gas guage from and get a cool cigar box to boot? That cigar box has a nice place in the centerfold of the game case I'm working on.

First of all, a very nice truck to start out with. I don't know what it is, but that int/ext color combo is one of my all-time favorites on an MJ ;) You also lucked out getting it with only 135k on the clock  Secondly, Oh? People actually like them? I have them on mine atm. Untill i get 33's & swap them out for some nicer rims. I personally love the turbines. :chillin: Just picked up a set myself and got 'em put on. If you decide to ever give 'em the proverbial "boot" I'd be more than willing to send a few clams your way for the center-caps. Can't ever seem to find any down here that are worth buying; either that, or people want an arm and a leg for them.

"Unicorn" Update.....The current state of the 4-92 built MJ.
Zenobian_84 replied to ComancheKid45's topic in The Pub
I'm not afraid to say I'd drive something like the Unicorn. Hell, my truck is Yellow with blue and black stripes running down the sides of it! I personally think the paint-job is a real head turner. It definitely makes it more unique than the color it used to be. ;) Your uncle did a fantastic job! That's my own opinion though. I really don't understand why some are down in the dumps over the original color deal. Yes, it's flaming bright neon orange instead of "Hunter Green Metallic".... so what? The concept of "Every vehicle on the planet can be stripped down and repainted to the color it originally was, with the original decal stickers replaced." seems to have been lost here. :dunno: Seriously. Just saying; it's not worth being miffed about. Just be glad this thing is still getting cared for instead of rusting away in some junkyard like most of the other 92's out there probably are. -
Awesome truck; good to see she cleans up nice! As soon as I saw it, it reminded me of this; spent a lot of time playing this when I was a kid.

More storms decided to roll in today, so I got an early start on the bumper. Covered up that ugly Jeep butt with some newspaper. :rotfl2: Spent 15 minutes sanding down 25 years of grime and caked on dirt. First coat of primer. Second coat. First coat of glossy black  Second coat. Got it in 15 minutes before the rain set in for the day. You can see the water beading on the bottom lip. Everything buttoned up. Spent 10 minutes fixing some gerry-rigged wiring I did last year when I broke down on the side of the road one night. I'm surprised it's lasted as long as it did. :wrench: Sexy truck :brows: I'll probably put a final top coat of the gloss black on it within the next few days. Looks almost like a new Fey bumper. ;) Not bad for a $10 job. -
Sexy truck! :brows: Great find man; I take it that it was either garage kept, or from the south?

Decided to investigate why the little cotter pin keeps popping up in between the hinges on the drivers side door. I thought it was just worn out, but I also discovered that the assembly is missing a bolt entirely, and that the dumb $#!& PO ripped through the metal trying to "fix it"; instead, he gave up and left it hanging on by a bolt. Here's what I'm talking about; At first, I thought I would just go get a couple of these pins... But upon further investigating, I found this. You can see the bottom hole is completely destroyed, why, I have no idea. Is there a way to repair the bottom hole so I can get this thing to stop poppin' and creakin'? Or am I going to have to get a new door that isn't mangled? It seems that the more I investigate into things, the more I find that I have to replace or fix :ack: It's hasn't ever really bothered me, especially since I threw on some WL Grease on it; and every now and then I just hammer the pin back down. I was thinking about just replacing the pin with a nut and bolt setup anyway, but I figured I'd see if it was worth repairing.

Tried to decide what exactly I want to do with the bumper, and had everything planned. Then it rained. :headpop: So I went for a drive to see the GF and hang out with her and one of her gal pals. :D

Lucky dog. I tried to get my dad to go in half with me on a black J10 for sale 5 miles from me. Was a pretty good looking 84 rig that the guy was desperate to get rid of (ended up selling it for practically nothing because he couldn't take it with him to South C.) but he wouldn't because it had a 360 V8. He refuses to drive anything with a 4 cylinder, not because it's "uncool" but because him and my mom used to have a Concord back in the 80s with a 258, 4 on the floor. He loves and swears by that motor being the most reliable and easily maintained motor ever made. Can't argue with him on that one. He's even seen that exact same car on the road being driven by the guy he sold it to over 25 years ago. He stopped to talk with him one day and found out that it only had 1 rebuild; and has managed to squeeze out over 425,000 miles on it! Talk about dependable. :chillin: :wrench:

On the lookout for another Jeep for my old man. He used to have a '93 Red Cherokee back in the late 90s, but he got rid of it after he started the car detailing job in '98. Seems my MJ has rekindled his interest in Jeeps; and he wants one to replace his '86 Pontiac Parisienne. I've found some decent ones down here, but a little out of our price range for the moment. I was thinking about possibly getting him one for his birthday in January, if I can spare the $. It's a shame I can't get him in on the 4 banger deal. He won't go for it.... He wants the straight 6. I wonder why..
-
I remember a buddy whose dad had the old shovel up there one time. You aren't alone! That Jeep would have been some good Jurassic Park material there. I love the 4.2, and I would the YJ... if there was such a thing as finding one under 3k here in FL. :ack:

 @#$%ing morons. I'm sorry, but that's complete bull. Even the ECO-Friendly cars can only get about 46ish IF you drive with a feather foot on the gas pedal. I'd like to see the Big Three, hell, ANY company have a complete line (4-5) cars that can get that kind of mileage and still be affordable to the consumers by 2025. Good luck with that one. The average age of cars on the road today are 8-15 years old, and that's for MOST of them. Down here, I still see a slew of cars from the early 90s and 80s! Besides, the automakers are going to have to pass down the cost of all that technology to obtain that kind of mileage to the consumer. Have fun paying for your 50k+ car  :headpop: In the meantime, I'll enjoy driving around my MJ, getting 23 on the highway and 16 in the city.

 So the rain came in early; I'll have to do everything tomorrow probably. Hit the 174k milestone though. -

Well, finally have the painting on the body done; and I'm extremely pleased. Decided to get some good pictures before the storms set in for this afternoon. Hopefully the rain stays away long enough for me to get some new paint put on that bumper ;) Along with cleaning up the passenger tail-light. And, for comparison, here's some very old pictures. It's come a long way. -
On the fence with this one really. Never seen a Chry-Co 2.5 in anything other than a YJ, so I really can't comment on it. I'm all for keeping the Renix system going, but I agree with 86FUBAR. Sometimes you just have to upgrade, instead of staying the same. I think if I could find a decent HO 2.5, I might be tempted to swap it in. That won't be for a while though. My Renix just hit 174k and is still going strong; plenty of pep left in that old AMC block.

Felt like doing a few nagging things today after I got off work :ack: First on the list: Fix the driver's top taillight bulb. I didn't know you had to push down and screw in the bulb; those guys at AMC were clever.... :fool: Decided to put the original driver's light on backup duty; 25 years of steady service. Replaced it for another one I got a year ago out at one of the Fruitland Park P&Ps. A bit shinier (thanks to an hour hand-wash), and in better shape overall. No cracks or chips either  While I was at it, I replaced both reverse light bulbs. Now I have a fully functional rear-end :rotfl2: Then started in on the paint again. Angling the top stripe on the driver's fender. Filling in the passenger rear of the bed with blue... And finally finishing the black stripe down the bed / cab. Still have to add 2 more coats all 'round to the stripings. I also went back and painted out some of those mishaps along the driver's side of the cabin (nice, even striping now :brows:) The Next coats can wait until tomorrow, probably. Gotta catch some Z's for work later. -

Welcome to the South, my friend. At least you have a decent garage though :brows: I got no trees, and no garage. Just a pile of dirt and some stumpy grass to lay and wrench on. :wrench: Better than concrete though. -
EDIT: Decided to use this as a posting for whomever may come across another MJ out there in the vast world. It might help to keep note of such things, as it's another way to see how many are on the road still.  :wrench: -------------- Saw a metallic grey, LWB Pioneer at the Suntrust bank / 441 crossing in Eustis (next to Publix and the Mobil station) with a matching grey topper on the back. If you're on here, you have one nice looking rig  At least, the passenger side anyways. Was gonna see if I could catch up to you, but an F150 and 2 Dakota's cut me off from getting in the turn lane. It's a conspiracy I tell 'ya! :fs1:  And with this, AFAIK, there are only myself, and ExGrayXJ (NOT Whowey, my apologies; don't know how I goofed that one up. :dunno:  )that are around this immediate area with Comanches. :( The other 3 I've seen (Grey Pioneer, 86 Maroon X, and 86 Toxic Orange XLS) were just passing through I guess.

Sorry to dredge this thread back up, but I've never heard of the "Curved Track" before. Been thinking a lot of converting over to some decent buckets. Pic of curved track? :dunno: Not sure what the difference is here (aside from what Pete mentioned). I'm about 6'4, so this would be a bit of a problem. EDIT: Nevermind. Solved my own question with a bit of searching.

Oh man... Chicken In a Biscuit with some Jalapeno cheese; that or Monterey Jack Cheezits. As Alton Brown would say.... "You're on your way to some..." That show is an entirely different topic though....

:redX: Going to be hitting up the LKQs in Daytona and Orlando within the next 2 weeks. Anybody want to meet out there? :wrench:

Enjoyed a smooth drive to the Hardware store and back to get paint and sandpaper. :chillin:
