  1. General question: Why would the booster not functioning make the pedal soft? Wouldn't the problem be the master since the booster is there to soften the pedal? Topic: If you pump your brakes does the pedal get harder? IMHO you should check the master and re-bleed the brakes IAW the forum. If you're convinced its the booster you could always test it: Vacuum Leak Test Operate the engine at idle without touching the brake pedal for at least one minute. Turn off the engine and wait one minute. Test for the presence of assist vacuum by depressing the brake pedal and releasing it several times. If vacuum is present in the system, light application will produce less and less pedal travel. If there is no vacuum, air is leaking into the system. System Operation Test With the engine OFF, pump the brake pedal until the supply vacuum is entirely gone. Put light, steady pressure on the brake pedal. Start the engine and let it idle. If the system is operating correctly, the brake pedal should fall toward the floor if the constant pressure is maintained. Power brake systems may be tested for hydraulic leaks just as ordinary systems are tested.
  2. Did you ever get your radio straightened out?
  3. Thanks, the brakes are going to be this weekend. I'll have to remember to switch that while I'm at it.
  4. 1 )Did the CAD switch. Easy, painted red so I wouldn't forget I did it. 2 )Pulled the fuel tank and the fuel pump, order a new one, engine will turn over but not start. Pulling the fuel pump out. All the rubber in the tank had turned to goop and was just nasty sticky. That's what happens when you leave rubber submerged in the same gasoline for 10+ years. 3 )Switched dash out. Was super easy to do, only problem I broke the cancel cam shaft by sitting on it. Its only 20 year old plastic... Maybe I can fusion weld it. 4 )Got dumped on in 100+ degree rain storm. 5 )Pulled off the old lights on the light bar, can't figure out what they're wired to since there's no switch in the cab. 6 )Pulled off the retro bolted on flimsy brush guard bar thing on the front bumper. 7 )Pulled the radio and went over the wiring. I think its a newer radio that the original. Wrote down the wire locations and looking into something a little more modern. 8 )Inspected, poked, prodded, investigated everything done to the truck. Not a fan of the smithybuild bumper on the back from the early 90s. Seems some of the wiring is a little bubba'd, but not too bad. Not bad for a few hours.... now to wait a week and do it again. Reference axle photos front Rear Dash complete for now. Center lines and 33s for the FJ40 Needs to be cleaned and repainted. 5. http://www.diyfiero.com/dropspot/Jazzma ... ebuild.pdf Here's some info on it. Go to page 51. I think you probably installed the sensor with the key in? It sounds like its doing the reverse of how it should operate.
  6. Just wanted to add a picture for reference. On the tilt column, the black torq head screw(its directly above the silver torq) holds the cylinder in. Be careful pulling out the key presence sensor, it is tricky to put back in correctly. All the other steps are the same.
  7. Thanks for that. I picked up the new sending units today. I made sure they weren't the switches and were the actual gauge ones.
  8. Great thanks, found one on ebay because its hard to get to the jy's here in LA. Figured 38 bucks and free shipping is decent. Just going to swap the speedo and the plastic lens.
  9. I'm going to say no just going off the looks of the paint. I definitely love the look it gives though.
  10. Tom have the highway nazi's gotten you for not having front flares? Just curious where is that guy out of for the rear bumper? Nice to see another tanker on here by the way....
  11. Just wanted to say hi because I'm tired of lurking. Picked this up last weekend at my aunt's house with 88000 miles. Hasn't been run in a few years so I'm not even sure how well it runs. Its had some work done to it but I haven't taken the time to completely go over everything yet. From power spraying it on Sunday, it's rust free. I've a Chevy guy so having something like this is a little different for me. Plans as of now: Get it running decent as a backup daily driver/work truck. Possibly rebuild trans. Dump the front bumper bar along with the rear pipe bumper and make something new. Touch up the paint a little I think. I love the 80s look its sporting. Dump the lights on the light bar for now. Switch the bench seat with some Corbeau Baja seats I have laying around. Fix the passenger door which is locked shut. Tach in the dash mod. Can't believe this came without a tach. Replace the tires I only have the weekends to work on this thing. Its at my mom's house, with a 1500 sq ft garage with all the goodies(pipe benders, tig welders, plasma cutter, etc) compared to my little mig welder and hand tools at my house. First question of many: Where is the easiest place to get the tach for the dash? I don't have access to a decent jy here in SoCal. Home with all the mud blown off. As I found it.
