I distinguish between entertainers and musicians. Entertainers churn out pre-canned crap. Musicians actually put effort into making good music.

Headlight harness relay upgrade... with DRLs?
derf replied to gogmorgo's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Would this be a workable design to block the 5v to the relay but let the 12v through? https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/160460/shut-off-circuit-when-under-a-certain-voltage -
Headlight harness relay upgrade... with DRLs?

Maybe a cheap little arduino could read the incoming voltages and trigger relays for the lights... -
Headlight harness relay upgrade... with DRLs?
derf replied to gogmorgo's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ok, I can see that. Is it possible to tap a "hot in run" trigger somewhere? You could use that to drive a DRL relay that switches a 5v supply to the headlight (maybe integrate a step down circuit tapped to battery+ to supply to the light). Add in a second (normally closed) relay that would cut power when the low beams are turned on. You'd have a self contained harness that just has one extra wire you have to route somewhere else and tap it in. -
Mystery Plug in taillight harness ?

Did you double check all of your grounds? Also, double check your splice. You need to keep the existing wires together and add the extra wire at the same time. -
Headlight harness relay upgrade... with DRLs?

Is it possible to separate the DRL controller at the source and just run a different wire to the relay harness? It might take some more digging to do that but if you can isolate it so that the headlight switch just controls the normal lights and then have the DRL trigger run through a different relay, would that simplify things a bit? -
Sure. But not organized like that. I choose my playlists depending on my mood. And for things like Mozart, I don't like to shuffle in pieces of a work or listen to one part by itself. They're better played in sequence.

Mystery Plug in taillight harness ?

The blue wire is the running lights. Tie that in to the license plate lights. Black is ground. -
T/C chain wear from Np231 cad delete
derf replied to Cochise's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Same here. The chain will stretch before the tcase wears out. Remember, the front output is the lowest point in the case. The front bearing sits in an oil bath 100% of the time. It never lacks lubrication. -
You don't hear about that as much with newer music. It's cool to hear that some bands still try to do that. You used to see it a lot more back in the day. The 70s was full of "album rock" like that. I normally connect my car to my phone running Power Amp. I have several play lists set up so I can choose based on my mood. I have a wide range of tastes so "shuffle all" would be weird. Switching from Black Sabbath to Dave Brubeck to Suicidal Tendencies to Motzart to Megadeth to Joy Division to Jefferson Airplane would be... weird.

It may be stamped on the axle housing. AMC did that with the AMC20. There's a thread on tags here: I never rely on axle tags. I've had enough axles open to know that what's on the tag isn't always what's in the axle. Especially with Jeeps. Always crack the cover and double check for yourself.

AMC 20 is not a C-clip axle. I do remember seeing something about them using the same brakes as the Dana 44. If so, all the kits should bolt up. But verify that with someone who actually knows.

Going from properly adjusted drum brakes to discs in my XJ i didn't notice any significant change in the braking power. Going from rear drums in typical condition, I could see how one would notice a big improvement. Rear drums, especially after decades of neglect, aren't performing as well as they should. If you rebuild and adjust them they will show a dramatic improvement. The reason I did the swap is because rear discs are so much better at staying adjusted on their own. And they are so much easier to work on. If you just want better performance, clean and adjust your existing drums. You'll be astonished at how much difference it makes.

I want to say it was more recent than that. But not by much.

I've been running my old 5 disc changer while I am working. I had forgotten how much I like listening to whole albums. This is some of their newer stuff but I've been listening to Fates Warning since Night on Bröcken was new.

I didn't have either of those problems.

Another "rust-free" claim. Take a closer look.
derf replied to coolwind57's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
I dunno. I have thought about a snorkel on my XJ just to be a functional ram air intake. I absolutely would never go mudding or fording any significant water. Besides, a snorkel is a cosmetic mod for 99% of the people who install them. -

Need help on rear differential yoke and rear u joint
derf replied to Dave Vig's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes. Dana 44. All rear axles used the same u-joint so just get one for the rear and you're good. I would recommend Spicer brand for both. You can get them from Rock Auto I believe. Decent price and as good or better (sometimes way better) than other options. -
Dorman 610449 lug studs work perfectly. You can get them just about anywhere. I picked them up from Rock Auto.

They pipe all of that for rear AC/heat?
