Those would be the ones. Standard motor mounts are pretty cheap. Poly ones would probably last longer, but they’d also shake the truck.

I think I went with the stock replacement Anchor brand mounts on mine when I changed my engine maybe 18k miles ago. I’m happy with them.

Back way to Mt. Lemmon completed! Just over 1500 miles on the Jeep too and this was the first time that 4 low was used. Probably wasn’t needed, but it helped a lot.

June 2026 - @Porquer's 1st MJ Build Thread- More of a maintenance thread at this point: Year/Model - 1987 Sportruck Drivetrain- Stock: 2.5L, AX4, 2WD, D35. One day I hope to convert it to 4WD. Sometimes I have trouble making it up my friends driveway. Cooling- Stock: radiator and fan clutch replaced this year. Electrical/Ignition- Stockish: lots of mess to clean up from previous “improvements”. Still rocking the C101. Suspension/Steering- Stock manual steering. The steering box is shot. I’m collecting parts to install power steering. 3” Rough Country lift. Interior- Recently reupholstered bench seat, door cards and headliner. Vinyl floor that I’d like to replace with carpet in the future. Some plastic is cracked, but over all it’s in good shape! I like the maroon interior with the white exterior. Brakes- Stock. Rotors and front bearings replaced last month. Lighting- Stock. All working, except the hazards. Exterior- Recently repainted by the previous owner. From what I understand, the truck was rolled over leading to the repainting and the replacement of the passenger door. Wheel & Tires- Rally wheels and Toyo Open Country ATII tires. Misc- I first saw a Comanche when I lived in East Texas. At that point, I owned an 05 LJ and my wife owned an 06 TJ. I thought it was neat and that someday I might like to own one. That was probably 6 years ago. Last year, I was driving on a country road and saw one rotting away in someone’s front yard. I was looking for a small truck, but wasn’t excited about any of the current offerings. I found my Comanche listed on marketplace in Spokane Washington. I had a friend check it out, bought it, and had it trucked to my home in Ohio. It’s generally rust free (haven’t lifted the floor yet, but the driver’s floorboard was replaced by the PO. Currently, it’s my summer DD. My wife grows flowers, and we plan to sell them out the back of the truck. It won’t get much more than good maintenance until I finish up another project with my dad (1945 Aeronca Champ) Best MJ Story: My kids love this truck and love to go for Comanche rides. My wife, kids (4 and 2 years old) pile in, roll the windows down, and drive on slow farm roads. CC is Awesome! Why? There’s a wealth of knowledge here, and everyone wants to help keep these trucks on the road. I appreciate the humility that everyone has, and the willingness to re-answer simple questions.

I’d get the 4L60e rebuilt completely. As long as you change the fluid in it fairly regularly, it should live a long life. My parents had one in an 04 Suburban they bought new. The thing towed greater than its towing capacity a few times and had 190k miles on it when it got totaled by a hailstorm. Never needed any transmission work. -
Filler neck leak at an angle

There’s a vent on the fuel filler neck, right? Is it possible that the truck was slightly overfilled and it was leaking out of that? -
Best part was driving it in the winter. Never got stuck and the carburetor never cared about the cold. It struggled less than lots of new cars. The CJs are great, but man, that Elco would’ve been such a cool rig. My Dad had one with a V8 and a 4 speed as a first car, but someone pulled out of a parking lot at night with no lights and the it got wrecked. I think the ergonomics of a G body are darn near perfect.

In the order that they appeared in the school lot, my Dad’s 2000 Silverado 2500 plow truck, my 89 MJ, and my 86 Eagle. No pics handy of the 2500 and we’re all familiar with the other two I feel.

Everything will swap over. Biggest difference is the engine management. The header panel also changed. Unless the body is much nicer, I think I’d keep trying to fix the existing Jeep. -
Where at in SW WI? I’m from the La Crosse area. In fact, my MJ is still up there for now.

No shame in used parts! Might as well save a buck where you can. The general rule of thumb is that your thread engagement must be equal to the diameter of the stud/bolt. If the diameter is 1/2” (which IIRC, the wheel studs are), then you need to make sure that the threads on the stud are engaged on at least 1/2” of the nut.

I don’t think the battery cables will make much difference in the headlights. You will see the difference in starting the truck.

I would go with the heaviest cables you can afford. Have you added a headlight relay harness yet? That’s the common fix for our headlights.

It desperately needs sway bar disconnects. It was flexed out enough there that the little street tires lost traction and it needed 4wd. I’m pretty sure my MJ flexes more

I did an 8.8 in my truck. The Explorer ones are too narrow. I’d recommend one from an Explorer Sport Trac. It’s much closer to the width of an MJ rear. I’d also recommend checking out a Liberty 8.25 swap.
