Was it fairly reasonable to ship?

Just a photo dump. The snow picture was right after Christmas. The others are after I got the car 5 years ago. When we were rescuing it. It coming home the first time. Parked out back while finding a parts car. Different wheels and tires while waiting to find a parts car. The Eagle with our old 59 Chevy Wagon. It looks like this was during the engine swap, the hood is off as you can see the hood hinges. The parts car. The post-Christmas snow. This happened while I was at work (yes, the same place I got the car from). Whenever I go to work, this car parks about 100 feet from the spot I rescued it from 5 years ago. 4” of snow in a few hours was not fun.

I’d settle for either style, but if I had the choice, I’d go with the AMC one.
-
Thank you, after seeing that picture, I don’t think that is the style I am after now. I don’t think it would suit my truck.
-
I’ve seen that, and I do like it, but I’m not sure that is what I am after. Thank you.

We don't have a tubing bender, but I'll keep it in mind. That is crazy how much it has gone up. This Tomken one is for the Jeep bumper, you can get it both ways. Thank you for the honest review.

I wonder how it would behave in ice and snow.... it seems like it would be very easy for the tow rig to go around if it hit ice while cornering (that already is easy enough). I think this definitely could work though.

Because I am replacing my winch bumper with an OEM style one, I want to put a grille guard on my truck for some added protection. So far, I have only found two aftermarket options that work with an OEM front bumper, The Tomken piece and an Aries Automotive piece (along with some near-copies of the Aries). Tomken: https://www.quadratec.com/products/72013_850.htm#&gid=2&pid=4 Aries: https://www.morris4x4center.com/aries-automotive-grille-guard-for-86-00-jeep-xj-carbon-steel-semi-gloss-black-powdercoat.html Does anyone have any experience with either of these? I think I prefer the Tomken one, but I haven't seen any images of one on an 84-96 front end, only on the 97-01 front ends. I'm thinking that the Aries is a little too modern looking for me. I would rather run an AMC-era OEM brush guard or a Warn Trans4mer piece, but it doesn't look like I'll be able to find either for a reasonable price in decent condition (at least that I have found so far).

Heat the plastic that the rivers go through and pry on it very carefully and it’ll pop out. That’s how I swapped my VINs when I changed dashes.

Good looking truck! I visited my aunt and uncle out in Missoula once, it is a very pretty area.

I've tried joining other forums before, namely the AMC Eagle forum, but the layout just did not seem as user-friendly as CC is. Not to mention, the guys on here are all pretty good guys.

Congrats! We love that you are doing this too!

Upgrading to a Gauge Package W/ Column Shifter
89 MJ replied to Andy in Pa's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
That same era Chevy pickups and Jeep J-Trucks will work too. You can also find some of those Squarebody pickups (starting in 84 for the c10 and k10, IIRC) with an overdrive transmission, so those ones will more than likely have a slightly different indicator, but I could be wrong on that. -
I think that you are probably fine. Mine doesn't even run at 210 in the summer (it does run near there though), but I do have a bigger radiator than stock. The Eagle also sits about 180 since I have been driving it from October-present.

Can confirm, we have a 44x63 and it is pretty much full. To be fair, my dad does work out of there for one of his jobs, but we all wish it was bigger at times.

I am curious as to how it would respond to throttle and braking of the vehicle. I'm sure they would have some sort of braking system wired in, much like modern trailers (maybe regenerative braking??? That would be handy), but I would be curious as to how it would sense the throttle. Obviously the trailer would have to be "pushing" at the same speed, so maybe there would need to be another plug added and it would tell the vehicle speed. What about someone putting larger tires on the truck and that throwing the speedometer off? I assume that would just have to be recalibrated for the larger tires, much like how we have to change speedometer gears. I also cannot help but wonder how this would affect load capacity. As we know with pickups, the more the truck weighs, the less it can haul (if we are talking apples to apples trucks, model wise). I would assume that they same things applies for trailers. This seems like more people may need to be getting their CDL if they consistently haul near the max, but the weight of the trailer would put them over (though I would assume that most would already have their CDL in that case). All in all, I do think it could work though.

1988 Pioneer Long Bed Metric Ton Edition DD
89 MJ replied to EUREKA's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Looks like a good truck. Someday I want an MT LWB to go with my regular SWB truck. -
Well, in the past few months, I’ve had a couple of people asking if I’d sell the truck, and how much it would take. The most recent one was yesterday. Both times I’ve had to tell them know. Sure, could I sell it and make some money? That answer is yes, but I would then go out and buy another one and build it very similarly. Really, there is no suitable replacement for these trucks, after I have thought about it for a while.

Tire sizes, lifts and pictures
89 MJ replied to Dammerung's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My truck is on about a 3” with 31s. if you want to run an OEM Jeep wheel, you can run 31s with no lift and WJ LCAs. If I were to build one of these trucks again though, I’d build it very similarly, suspension wise. I did an AAL in the rear (from a set of XJ 4.5” lift springs, or somewhere near there), and a set of unknown brand 3” lift coils. -
Very entertaining read

Looks like it’s the week after All Breeds. Makes for a long time in the vehicle, but it would be quite an epic road trip, regardless of vehicles.

The main show will be the 30th. It is located in Kenosha. I am hoping to be able to go to this and bring both my MJ and Eagle. Details: https://facebook.com/events/s/2022-kenosha-homecoming-car-sh/297474504263495/
