December 2021-The 4th Generation Project
89 MJ replied to 89 MJ's topic in Comanche of the Month (MJOTM)
The family and long-time owner Jeeps are my favorite. I agree. I normally re-read a build thread before posting, and when I saw that picture, it was a must for this. It was absolutely deserved! You've done a good job preserving this truck and making it suit your needs, all while doing the dirty work by yourself and learning along the way. For me, its not about the truck, its about the story. Thank you. -
mini beast Project: Stock To Beast!!!

I'm liking where this is going! -
I've seen on the KeyParts FB page that the new lenses are going to be coming out in January. Now, here's hoping that they are priced reasonable. Jesse, if you aren't opposed to JK taillights, Dzimm makes housings for them. They look pretty darn good, IMHO.

Holy crap you’re right! That axle is probably pretty desirable. -
With snow tires. It's always a minivan with snow tires. You never know when it is going to snow in GA.

December 2021- @rylee144's 4th Generation Project Build Thread- MODEL AND YEAR 88 SWB Pioneer, 4.0 5spd 2wd converted to 4.0 5spd 4wd. ENGINE & PERFORMANCE: 4.0L Renix pretty much bone stock SUSPENSION & DRIVETRAIN: Non CAD Dana 30 4.56 gears with a locker Ford 8.8 rear end 4.56 gears with a locker 3" Rough Country lift with a 1.5" lift puck and 2" shackle lift in the rear AX15 5speed trans 231j transfer case COOLING: Coverted to an open cooling system ELECTRICAL & IGNITION: Stock STEERING: 1 ton steering with heim joints BODY & EXTERIOR: Custom faded dark blue with peeling clear coat Vent windows replaced with fixed ones Windshield replaced with newer rubber gasket sliding rear window Winch bumper, still don't have a winch installed though. INTERIOR: Newer bench seat installed to get the head rests New carpet New head liner from SMS New sun visors BRAKES: Pretty much stock except the 8.8 has disc brakes. LIGHTING: Fog lights added to front and rear bumpers. H4 wiring harness WHEELS/TIRES: 31 X 10.5 X 15 Wheels are a stock Jeep wheel Tires are a low end all terrain nothing fancy Future Plans Truck still needs a ton of work. Water seeps in through a seem on the floor board so new pans are going to have to happen sooner or later. The fan clutch went out so that'll need address before summer. I'd like to upgrade the brake booster and fix the e-brake too. I need door locks and interior lights as well. I fine with peeling paint but man do these trucks pop all shined up with new paint. This truck has been in the family for a long time and I'd like to keep it that way. I drive it often and it's my kids' favorite rig to ride in which makes me happy. It does everything I need it to. What owner loves best about CC The knowledge found here is amazing. I have on numerous occasions needed help fast and get it. I could not have done my 4x4 swap with out CC members. This has been a very cool thread to follow along with. Congrats, Rylee!

Putting these in an easy to find spot. These are from the FSM, but I know that we do not all have access to an FSM. Thank you to @cruiser54 for posting these in tech.

Try autotempest.com. It lets you search across the whole country on Craigslist, eBay, and Cars and Bids. It will mostly be private party sellers on that one though. Are you looking for another Durango? Otherwise, I believe that both cargurus and autotrader have Nationwide radii. There was recently a Hellcat Durango listed for sale near me. That would have plenty of power to tow your beds around.

Crank Position Sensor Bad or Not?

You may want to read through this thread. A guy with the same year truck seems to be having a similar issue. -

I don't know how tall you are (I seem to remember you mentioning it somewhere in this thread, I just don't remember), but are you going to be able to have your seat back far enough and still have enough legroom with the cage where it is? It looks kinda far away from the back of the cab.- 798 replies

Not at this point. Most of the paint is still there. I might buff it out some because I tried it on a small spot, and it shined up really well. Plus, the wheel paint is a direct-to-metal paint, which I would not do on the body.
-
I just saw it. That is weird.

IIRC, it might be possible to put that connector in upside down. I think having the thermostat removed might be part of the issue. 2.5s only have a mechanical fan, yes? If it does and if it has a clutch, I’d bet that is worn out and then the coolant is circulating too quickly for that worn out clutch on the fan to cool the water. To me, that explains why it increases when revved, but will cool down later.

The new rear tires are in, so I had to sandblast the wheels to make them pretty. Now I just need to get paint for them.
-
Thank you! That was exactly what I was looking for. That definitely was a good looking rig!

I have done some looking online on this question and I never found what I was looking for. Has anyone trimmed their front fender flares so that the bottom of the flare was even with the bottom of an OEM front bumper? You seem to see a lot of trucks missing the air dam, and this seems like it would be an alternative to replacing it and making it less likely to catch on things off road.
-
I definitely think that would be a good idea, along with Mini's living on a budget idea.

4x4 Conversion.. Is it worth it?
89 MJ replied to Eriko5000's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
IMHO, for your spring-fall driving, you would be fine with an LSD and a set of all terrains. I have never put myself in a situation that I have ever really needed 4 wheel drive in my truck, even with the suspension at full flex. Just keep it out of the mud and you should be fine. -
Golly, that's a pretty rig.
-
You will be able to give your paint jobber your color code and they will be able to mix it up for you. To get your truck as straight as possible, you should hand block it out. I like blocks that are 12+”.

Thanks for the tag, you said pretty much what I would have. I’d recommend PPG products too.
