Chunk, A 1984 XJ
eaglescout526 replied to eaglescout526's topic in Member Projects: Other Cool Stuff
Heres where the sensor on the D35 goes. I put it in too high, whoops but thats ok, it is still reading the fluid. But now I need to find a washer like gasket like how an oil pan drain bolt uses on all these sensors to stop the leaks. I also found a t-case skid plate in my parts. I think I got it from the same person who sent me the system sentry but I do not remember anymore haha. Now to figure out how to install it, or where it goes for that matter and if my XJ can take it. -
So I decided to tackle my bizarre issue with my front sway bar. Replaced the links and decided to ditch the poly greasable bushings in favor of just regular ole rubber bushings. So these are not the original mounts by any means. These are newer style from Chrysler that actually cradle the whole bushing which is pretty nice. Whats odd is I remember fighting to put the poly bushings on but these hardly fought me at all other than aligning the bolt holes to tighten the bracket down. As for the links, well I put them on first then the bar and it is all lined up pretty well so I have no idea why I had any issues with the links. Probably the poly bushings but we shall see how she drives.

Thats scary that the ECU failed. -
Ok. I walked into oreillys. Grabbed the cheapest sunshade they had and cut the thing to fit. I do not, absolutely do not regret doing that at all.

This one looks like one of the first 4 doors ever done. -
The Renix system can compensate based on two sensors. TPS and O2. If you adjust the TPS to put out less fuel or more fuel at idle which is voltage, it would be fine. But honestly it doesn’t matter for the PSI since the fuel is regulated down to 15psi into the injector. Course I don’t know much about those ratings unless they’re based on either how much pressure they can handle or how much pressure they’re outputting the fuel to. I can’t see there being a huge difference, but I’ve never known this till now so I do want to test this.

Good luck finding cheaper. The only ones who used that injector was AMC and GM. Maybe GM might yield ya a cheaper injector but that injector is a costly one regardless. I might have one or two, can’t guarantee they pulse like they should. What ya ought to do is hit a junkyard with a bunch of older Chevys from the 80’s and 90’s, the V6’s and 8’s used the TBI set up.

About the parking brake cable
eaglescout526 replied to Spinnakerblue89's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Socket that is the same inner diameter as the pin. Or flat head and push them in one at a time till it comes out. That one requires some patience to do. -
Idle air control and idle speed control
eaglescout526 replied to joeCor's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Do you know any other history? Something like that with it having an issue while driving points me to a bad head gasket and not sensors if the head gasket has never been serviced and if it’s sat for a few years with coolant in it that would destroy the head gasket. I only say such cause mine checked out with all the sensors but the head gasket caused my problems with driving. The absolute only other thing that can give driving issues is the O2 sensor not being read properly by the ECU which is a result of bad/dirty pins in the connector on the harness side and would fault the system to remain in open loop vs closed loop. -
Idle air control and idle speed control
eaglescout526 replied to joeCor's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It’s actually called an ISA or an idle speed actuator. They can be found on GM cars and yeah the YJ but not many places have it listed to fit the XJ and MJ due to the XJ and MJ getting the 4.0L more commonly than the YJ until 91. That being said, they rarely go bad and usually are misadjusted due to shade tree mechanics or techs who have never worked with or understand the Renix 2.5L to set it correctly. It’s possible for them to have swapped motors but that wouldn’t make a difference unless they swapped the engine management which they haven’t done at all and still has the Renix TBI. This all being said, is your engine behaving funny or have drivability issues? -

Rear axle has its sensor now. Thats when I found the transfercase low. It really wasnt but the oil that came out looked like a strawberry milkshake. Guess a drain and refill for that is in the future. I also found the axle to have been really low on oil too. That was a scary discovery when I had drill the hole for the sensor. -

AMC 2.5 to GM 2.5 swap
eaglescout526 replied to TFGgarage's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
No. Don’t even bother my friend. Your gonna lose so much horsepower and torque that you’ll regret it in the end. The 2.5L was designed specifically by AMC for the Jeep and Eagle lines for the off-roading and capabilities. Now if you’re really hating on the Renix TBI that much, you can get carb manifold and such from the CJ, Eagle and early XJ and swap stuff in and get it to run or set up a carb HEI combo and run that too but you’ll also lose horsepower and torque. But only a small amount compared to that engine swap you want to do. Most techs don’t even know how to work on these Renix systems. It’s before their time. Cruisers tips are mostly geared towards the 4.0L. Hows the coolant look? Exhaust fumes clear or some slight cloud? Does it stumble and act like it loses power while driving? To me it dying while driving or at idle would make me think the CPS is getting heat soaked or on the way out. That needs to be tested by seeing how many VAC it is outputting. Oh and a carbed 2.5L is garbage. I swapped it out on my XJ for the Renix TBI. -
