  1. I believe so. I think that may be right, but its tough to find any info for the manual trans set ups. So we will roll with that.
  2. That’s a tricky question as it seems all of our trucks can use either auto or manual cruise set ups. The manual set up uses a switch/valve that is used in conjunction to the brake switch. I believe in the DIY Blaine D has a picture of one that has both a valve and plug. AMC and GM used the same switch as Chrysler references the GM number for the Chrysler part. So yes there is a switch/dump valve that the set up needs but an auto set up works just as well Hopefully I answered that well enough for ya Ohm.
  3. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Cruise...it works! I really had my doubts any of it would freaking work but it does! After fighting with the clutch and the master cylinder(helps to rebuild it properly.) and it still giving some slight trouble after taking it out and re-rebuilding it, it no longer leaks inside now, so I'm looking at replacing the slave. Anyways that's not what this is about, it is this: As we all know the 2.5Litre has been shadowed by its younger sibling the 4.0L. So finding pictures of this engine bay with cruise control is not fun. I don't think I found a single one. The cable is so damn long though that I decided to fill the empty space by the blower motor and not puncture the fire wall. Looks factory in that location, had to modify the original mounting bracket for the firewall but I did not have the right cable at the time....so I really didn't need to butcher the mounting bracket. Oh well. Still looks good. Now I'm sure you are all wondering, how does it perform? Well surprisingly for how old it all is, it only drops a couple miles under what you set the speed at. I'll have to play with the adjustments later. I'm just happy to be done with this thing already. Oh and Thank you Will for the cruise vacuum tank.
  4. Awesome! Side note. I did replace my slip yoke prior to the trans blowing up and it fit really snug with new case, bushing and seal and still does to this day.
  5. Lol. Don’t get me wrong though it is still a nice truck.
  6. Did someone throw up on the carpet?
  7. I can almost swear Chrysler still has plenty available. I think I got every piece to the splash shields as I had to remove every brittle piece of plastic that was still attached. At least when I did mine Chrysler still has a bunch left. Probably to do at most 100 MJ/XJ’s
  8. All that comes to mind is the Hummer limo when looking at this...… Thing.
  9. The splash shield? I can’t imagine Chrysler would’ve changed the design of those during the XJ life. I don’t see why not. It seems Chrysler has different part numbers over the years but they supersede. So they should work
  10. When you can’t afford a Jeep so you snatch a junk yard front clip and throw it on your vehicle.
  11. It was a combo of some things. Poly bushings, not changing the oil in the tranny after first owning it, but some of it was due to the bushing and case being worn out and was causing the rumbling. It wasn’t noticeable for me when I had vibrations galore but if IIRC I would occasionally hear and feel a drone or rumble from fifth, but that was a while ago. That transmission grenaded itself. But do do inspect the fifth gear as a precaution since you’ll be in there
  12. I say replace the seal and bushing first. Then test for your rumbling. I had that issue before and the extension got too hot and wore out both the bushing and case to where you could not put a bushing in and have it stay in place. Course that was due to no oil in the rear extension. But you may have found your problem with the wobbling yoke
  13. I have honestly contemplated buying parts for the 4.2Litre AC system minus the core, lines and compressor as the part numbers for both engines are the same. Orrrrrr I hunt down the H.O. brackets but I do not know how well those will line up with the rest of the pulleys.
  14. I'm looking for every piece to the AC system and the 2.5L specifics like the mounting bracket, hoses and wiring harness.
  15. Figured as much. Thanks Jeep Driver.
  16. Hey guys, Question. Since the 2.5L and 4.0L share similar mounting bolt hole locations for the accessories like the alt and power steering. Is it at all even possible to snag everything AC from a 4.0L Renix and mount and use on a 2.5L? I have not seen anything that discusses this and 2.5L anything is getting rare, especially in AZ. Figured id ask this before I go asking for parts.
  17. Had a poly set for a couple years. Awful ride for just daily driving. Lost a transmission to poly bushings. If it's a rubber set then you should be good.
  18. Check the bulbs and sockets. If the sockets are corroded and or rusted it is recommended to upgrade and replace then old sockets with the new style found on XJs after '90
  19. I agree with Ohm. it should be emissions timer
  20. Dr. Frankenstein called. He wants his car back.
  21. Will I totally forgot and didn’t think to ask! Course I should’ve done more searching for it. I’ll send you a PM Thanks Jeremy! That radio will be next up soon.
  22. Quick little update; Cruise control has been way to far into the works but it is moving along and hopefully should be ready soon. What I have acquired after getting the whole cruise control: NOS throttle cable for the 2.5L, NOS vacuum harness for cruise, brake switch, NOS speedo cables and Crown cables both upper and lowers. I figured out a couple things for this project that has taken so long: Renix vacuum reservoirs that is shaped like the football is next to near impossible and the automatic trans bracket for the vacuum dump valve for cruise will fit and work on the manual set up, it just won't be connected to the clutch but that's ok. The manual bracket mounts on a bracket in front of where the connecting rod connects to the clutch pedal. If this was known to anyone on where the clutch dump valve mounts for a manual, awesome! If not it will be here for the future. As for the vacuum reservoir situation, well I think this idea should work as its the same concept but it put into one part and not two like how they did it in 84-86. I have a second "softball" vacuum reservoir that should act as the other half of the "football" reservoir and should control the servo. That was a pain to get the screw to thread and go in. A lot of planning and time has gone into this but it was just my luck to find CC from an 86 XJ and not an 87-90. Once this is done, I'll be replacing the clutch master cylinder. I think and believe the one I replaced the stock one has failed and its obnoxious to keep my foot on the pedal just to hold pressure in the line. So the stock one has been rebuilt and will go back in. So much for pristine floors in a desert.
  23. Unfortunately you won't be able to swap anything since your 86 cluster is idiot lights and the other is from an H.O. XJ. The idiot light cluster has no way for it to house the gauge versions due to the light sockets. You will need a Renix era gauge cluster. I had the same thought when I had my idiot light cluster.
