Trading my XJ for a MJ...need help
eaglescout526 replied to 717jeepin's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hmm. I feel the weak thing comes from running larger than 235 tires. We’re you running stock set up at the time it broke? -
No problem. Wish we could but just way more 4.0L’s than our 2.5L’s

Trading my XJ for a MJ...need help
eaglescout526 replied to 717jeepin's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Why do we keep bad mouthing the D35? If AMC had known it was gonna be a bad axle, they would have never used it on any of their vehicles. The D35 will last anyone a long time as long as you give it care and maintenance and don’t put giant tires on it. If Chrysler knew it was a bad axle they wouldn’t have used it when they acquired AMC. Sure they changed it up after what? Five years or so years when they ran the XJ. If you don’t want to dump money or time into an axle swap that is meant for putting larger than stock tires and rims on it then don’t swap. The D35 will last you a life time until it tells you it wants to be a boat anchor. -
Actually. Pete might be right about that. Might take three Cherokees.
-
Well since you have the 2.5L I can look through my pictures and show you what I’m talking about. I have an 86 control deck harness I can give you. I gotta find it.
-
Looks like the important salvageable bits are good.
-
You will need a AC control deck wiring harness from an AC Jeep of the same year. There should be a plug in the engine bay that is empty. That should be the AC wiring on the engine side.

new Jeep truck spotted! not sure about those taillights...

When you don't out grow your Legos. -

Can of electronics cleaner wouldn’t hurt it either. It’s designed to clean electronics like an alternator. Stuff is like pure isopropyl. Might choke you out. I know the MoPar stuff does that to me.

Potential overheating
eaglescout526 replied to Dammerung's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
No. The air bubble should go to the highest point in the engine to get out. Right now that bubble could be right be the thermostat housing. -
Potential overheating
eaglescout526 replied to Dammerung's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You can unscrew the temp sender at the rear of the head just a little until air comes out of the system. I believe you need to do it facing down a hill for beat results. -
You would honestly be surprised what is priced very cheaply and what is priced very expensively.
-
Here. I know anyone and everyone will probably look for this. Perhaps older AMC family vehicles can be tried for the dust cap. According to Chrysler this cap went into service for the '72 model years and ended in '92. Yes Chrysler was apparently charging a fortune for this thing.(No there aren't any more around)

Interior colors/paint
eaglescout526 replied to eaglescout526's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
Well here is the final results. I like it. It’s been a battle just to find the right color but I don’t like how dark the SEM graphite is, felt like that color fit better with the 97-01 interior, so I went with what I did like and thought it fit best. I can see that it is a little lighter but honestly I like it and it’s been a month of color searching to where I didn’t want to go fork over a fortune to have a color match(probably should have for how much I spent). I feel the AZ sun and heat didn’t contribute to keeping the interior color in the best of shape. For now this color will hang around. -
Interior colors/paint
eaglescout526 replied to eaglescout526's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
Could be. It been tough for me to tell as the entirety of the dark pieces of my interior are several different shades of the dark grey. Even the dash that is the dark grey color is the same on what's at the bottom of the console -
That thing looks awesome. Be a perfect pair for anyone who has a street Comanche.
