I say hit the starter with a hammer. If it frees the bendix, then you know the starter will be a problem again in the future. But for just getting the MJ going again, I would hit it and replace the starter when the truck is road ready.

I have a price in mind but it’s not set in stone. This is more of how many folks are interested type deal. But the price I’ve been tossing around is $200. It accounts for the kit+time+assembly(vac hoses)and shipping.

Cruiser54’s tips is the absolute best place to start with these Jeeps. Revival or improving, steps 1-5 will help you with grounds and any other issues that may be present before getting the MJ going. Also the battery cables could absolutely be trashed and corroded depending on your location.

Here is a list of parts that happen to be 84-86 specific for parts that are shared between the two Jeeps. I will also list unique XJ oddities that should be snagged as well. MJ specific 86 oddities Spare tire winch adaptor Tail lamps with the silver and black trim set 86 only early style step bumper that mimics the J-truck XJ(and or MJ) 84-86 oddities System sentry. This is a big one. Even if the market is limited I am always in the market for spare parts for this. 84 only A-pillar panels. No screw plug covers 84 only selec-trac bezel with pull knob selec-trac shift bezel 84-85 black 3 spoke steering wheel(with matching interior color) 84 only Small Jeep nameplate on the tail gate 21 slot grill 84-85 waggy header panel. These use a unique set up that can only be found for these years. The parts inside the bell are stupid rare but also very reliable. Perfect and easy drop in for the 87-90 2.5L and a worthwhile upgrade to do over the later 91-96 external slave where you have to change the bell. Color matched dash bezels

Max capacity for an XJ tank is 20 gallons. Not worth it. Get an MJ 23.5.

Very rare and only on the limited XJs which always had gold letters. They even have those gold wire rims.

Yes. You can swap the two piece in with no problems. You’ll just need to replace the clips on the back of the upper piece if applicable.

It’s not. Just 84-86. the catalog lists it as with vehicles with factory air. My 79 firebird has the same resistor to our Jeeps funny enough but i don't think it’s a 5 prong resistor.

Maybe I might have to redact my statement. The more I look at it the more I see it being during the 97-01 XJ era. It strikes me more the Chrysler LLC era but I could be wrong.

No they can be the GM cans. I don't know about the HO since they’re single port.

Fuel Injection nameplate is missing. 86-87 the 2.5L was the first years for it to be fuel injected so they put a badge under the 2.5L to distinguish that from the 84-85 carb variant.

I would stick to the Renix era to be on the safe side when dealing with the hoses.

Yeah they are not easy to find. You might get lucky using 4.0L hoses.
