Was: Stroker 4.6L swap, Now: 4.0L swap... apparently...
ejndssn replied to Pete M's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
They may have blue printed this 4.0l. are your plans for the rebuild going to be a home brew version like that of the bryce. and keep us posted on the heavy weight yes -

thanks for the up load whats the trick. :dunno: I do hope that the performance doc comes in handy you may already have it. should you stroke the 4.0l i recommend lite version, for others the heavy are the one of choice, this sounds like a beer commercial  (less filling /taste great). the differences is that lite is a plug and play & 4 cw . the heavy requires a trim at the snout & 12 cw. -

Pete first want to say sorry for the out come. Any way at the bottom of this shot you will see a CW http://www.printroom.com/ViewAlbumPhoto.asp?shopperid=NBD19WSC2EJ98KS1LP61H7T968RCERP8&userid=Lancia1&album_id=48070&image_id=1 also the Dinos site has a good picture of the AP stroker without obstructions that is a 4 CW one on each end and two in the center you stated that he was adamant that it was a stroker he could have been tooked and didnt know it and may be he's just as  or in denial :???: -
:agree: with CW I've have 2 XJ's(89,96) and 1 MJ(89) Almost had an YJ but the wife x'nade and even with the MJ stroked just learn to live with it and monitor for any additional noise. :brows:
-
the hats got my vote and i'll take 2 of them just let me know if camo is an option cause i may want an extra for hunting trips... as for the cozie well i loose too many of them :brows:
-
keep the 2.5 or convert????
ejndssn replied to bhorocks's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
why not drop a small v8 like the 265ci i know that some gm cars had them like the buick century  go get the cyclone 4.3l that gm produced believe that v6 had 24v and turbo charged as well  -
need to determine if a lifter is a suspect since they are hydraulic… this may be one of the causes that you hear after the initial start up . Try to isolate the source of the noise if its at the top of the engine or on the bottom. Leaky lifter or spun bearing could be a possibility. and if you decide to change out the eng have it stroke you will not regret it.

now we need to see a dually :brows: which i have not seen yet that is very cool

Update from the stroke site by Greg I was wrong in stating 8 cw for the 4.2l  only the 4.0l had 8 cw and i do believe that the Dino's web site will provide additional help as well. here is an response by Dino from the stroker's site keeping my fingers crossed that there is 4 cw or 12 cw -

Pete look at the counter weights the 4.2L had two types if there is 12 cw then for sure it has been stroked. If there are 8cw then you will have to measure the stroke which it appears to be difficult at the moment. I was hoping that you had some time to look at the links that i have provided. The first link may be of great value to us all since its the jeep performance book. I will check with the stroker site and see what they have to offer and post my findings from the stroke site shortly -

DirtyComanche :agree: with that and there where two types one called the heavy weight which i believe is the 70's vintage crank(12cw) and the light weight was in the mid 80"s vintage crank (8cw) like that of the 4.0 and i do believe that bryce was one of the first pioneer's in this arena. here are some links that i have found that may help http://www.yankeeinfluences.com/jeep/JeepEngines.pdf http://www.jeep4.0performance.4mg.com/tech_specs.html http://www.bc4x4.com/tech/bryce/stroker/assembly.cfm I also do agree with Pete's assessment hope this helps -

Pete did you look at the distributor and see if the retainer ear's have been removed that is a tell tail sign of a stroker. most guys on the stroker web site states that this has to be done to get it properly tuned :brows:. and of course the injectors as well are another source. i have the 5.2l from a GC and she starts very quickly. -
yep :agree: with that... if you happened to obtain another you can get a better gm engine than the weak 2.8 or do like another member did here on site and made the 4.0 fit into 86 eng compartment.
