Last night our plant was shutdown early (7:30PMish) due to the weather. My drive was twice as long down I35 and I80. Went 25-30mph the whole way home because of freezing rain/snow/wind. Lost count at around 30 vehicles wrecked then. Today the stretch of I35 I travel on had so many wrecked cars, it's impossible to count and it ended up getting shut down for snow drifts over 8 feet deep going across the interstate. Rediculous! It's Iowa and this stuff happens but come on, this year has sucked so far! This video is the same stretch of road I drove home on. https://m.facebook.com/kcci8/posts/10155922922110079

found a distruaght 86 MJ, what should I do

How much do you want for them? -
Thank you but I've got one on the way from Goose_XJ88

Biggest question is, do you get snow or freezing temps? Then don't even bother with LED because you won't see jack when they don't produce enough heat to melt it. Ask me how I know. High powered light conversions like H4s are brighter than the available LEDs anyway and aren't that expensive. Google how to aim headlights. Its extremely easy and takes all of 5 minutes. No need to go driving around. Honestly even if the lights aren't DOT approved, it doesn't matter because no cop will ever check that. Only an inspection center would.

The truck is a 4cyl so he'd need to source a bunch of other parts to retain Renix and use the 6cyl. Agree with this completely. To get the truck back on the road for $300 it's a pretty good option though, and honestly selling the extra parts and scrapping the carcass that money can easily be recovered. The OP just needs to be aware the electrical will be a pain sometimes.

In that case, you will need to swap everything over from the XJ.
-
This is a good recommendation for sure. 96' is a mixed year of stuff because of the conversion to OBD2. It can be hard to determine what is what due to so many changes and randomness in parts that were used buy Jeep in that year as they tried to use up stock of old parts and transition to new. By no means will it be impossible to swap stuff over but it will be more difficult.
-
Ok so the problem you are going to run into is you have a Renix electrical system in your MJ and an HO electrical system in your XJ. Whats wrong with the drivetrain in the MJ? You'll have to do some research on the two electrical systems and decide which one you want to use. The HO is considered a superior system but many people will argue that Renix is better.

changing engines, 88 4.0 to 89 4.0?
Dzimm replied to Submariner's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you are that far into it, you might as well do a full rebuild. Wouldn't cost much more. Perfect opportunity to build a stroker. -
Broken TBI screw(solved)
Dzimm replied to eaglescout526's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You could use a Dremel and cut a slot in it to get a flathead on it maybe. Otherwise it looks like a drill and tap scenario if you are going to fix it. -
How bad could the tailgate be? Beat up Jeep tailgates make great wall art. Been looking for one myself but don't want to pay to ship. Clean up the handle and hinges someone would want them.

I'm looking for a parking brake lever from an XJ. Prefer 96- but will take a 97+. Shipping would be to 50054.

What does your lift consist of? Did you use coil spacers or swap springs? If you went SOA then you have at least 5"-5.5" of lift in the rear already. Assuming you don't have coil spacers already, you could add them to get to 6.5" up front and some longer shackles in the rear. Iirc Chevy drop shackles will lift our trucks some.
-
This is a valid question. What are you planning on using the truck for? Mall crawler or actual off-road use?
-
There are a few companies that sell 6.5" kits (rough country, Rusty's, ECT). 8" kits are getting into long arm and I know Rusty's has one. I have a Rusty's 4.5" kit and like it, other people will tell you to not waste money on the "budget" kits and just build your own. You will need to go spring over axle in the rear to get that high no matter what you do, I think all the kits come with the perches to do that. You can build your own lift from junkyard parts, there was an old thread brought back up about that recently. I can't remember if that had info for that much of a lift though. For the Comanche, and most vehicles, there aren't really kits that come with everything you need. They all seem to lack something.

Yeah I don't like that. The drainage on the edge of town isn't capable of taking the heavy rain anymore so my yard and shop floods in a decent rain. Get about 5" of water all the way around the house. Had one day last year it touched the foundation of the house. As soon as it stops raining, it all is gone in about an hour. Yeah that is crazy. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we start to see more crazy and unusual weather moving forward.

Inverted double flare.

Wish I had a 10 acre lot full of Jeeps... That's a cool find. Ya think the duct tape tail light fix was in their shop manual?
-
We've got a foot or two you can have if you'd like. You come get it tho. I'm hoping this winter isn't an indication of how much rain we will get this year.
-
Absolutely. You won't get a clean cut without one.

Anyone Have an Electric Fan Setup?
Dzimm replied to Dzimm's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
This is all great info. I think I'm going to try and find some stock fans for cheap and see how that goes. I will keep Spal in mind and do some research on that. I didn't come across any info on that in my initial browsing. -
I ended up switching the solution out after 4 hours because it was very nasty, I'm guessing because I used such a small container. I then left it overnight so it soaked for about 12 hours total. The bolts look much better than before but still have some rust on them. I set them out to dry but got busy doing other stuff so haven't tried taking the nuts off yet. I go back to work tomorrow but I will try to make time in the next few days to either get those nuts off or let the electrolisys thing work another night and report back. I did however order a bunch of parts since the pocket book was a little fatter this week. I got a new radiator, water pump, thermostat, exhaust manifold, valve cover gasket, and freeze plugs on the way!

I'm looking for a working 97+ electric fan for cheap. Cheapest new one I can find is still $50 and the junkyards around here want the same for a used one. I'd prefer the 99+ fan but will do a 97+ if someone has one laying around they will let go for cheap.
