I've been thinking about getting one on and off. I don't have big rocks to move tho.
-
Haha that's a great use of a wrench. Think I would have gone for one larger than 11/16" though.

I like this thread. There are pictures here I haven't seen in my race truck searches.

I was doing some work in the yard today and my garden rake broke so I welded it back together. This got me thinking, what is a tool you bought thinking you'd only use it once, but you've now used it many times? First is my welder I bought to do some sheet metal work. It's just a cheap gasless MIG welder I got off Amazon but it gets the job done. I've used it for body work on the MJ, exhaust work on the MJ, replacing floors in the XJ, making a replacement seat bracket for the XJ, making brackets for some "Ghostbusters" proton packs, and now fixing my garden rake. It's a tool I don't think I could live without and since I've only got about $225 total in the setup I have, I would say it's a must have for anyone who does diy work. The other tool is my puller tool. I bought it to replace the clock spring in the blue truck. I've now used it to replace the clock spring twice and also have used it to replace the ignition cylinder in the 92 MJ. I've also got a 4.0 engine block out at the farm that I want to tear apart and clean up and will be using this puller to remove the balancer. It's one of those tools I could have rented from the auto parts store for free, but the many times I've used it has already payed for itself in the gas savings driving to the store multiple times and I would certainly buy it again. What about you guys?

2001 Dodge Daytona? Or?
Dzimm replied to MJXJjeepguy's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
I've always wanted a 69 charger on a 4x4 frame/drivetrain. This thing is cool. Interesting choice on the front clip but it actually fits it fairly well. -
Oh boy, if he's working out a price I'd be prepared for a high asking. If it's that rotted out I wouldn't pay more than $2000 for it. There is plenty of running and driving ones with very little rust for around $6000 it's just a matter of how close to you they are.
-
These don't exist in central Iowa, at least aren't ever for sale, but a Wagoneer in similar condition or worse usually goes up for around $2000 - $3000. They all usually disappear pretty quickly so I imagine they sell quick. If a J10 popped up close to me I would go look right away if it we're in my price range. I see some rust on the frame in your pictures so I'd be looking over every square inch of it to make sure it's not rotten. Bring a screwdriver and poke around. You say the box is rotten but honestly that looks pretty clean to me. What are they asking for it?

very nice work

If you are just swapping in the 8.8 you will be fine welding the perches on without worry. Stitch the welds like stated above and you'll have no issues. If you plan on adding a truss kit or something that will weld to the diff, it's a different story. I swapped a C8.25 into my truck and just welded half the bead at a time and swapped ends of the axle between passes and it turned out similar to Jeep Driver's picture above.

how many miles on your truck's factory engine?
Dzimm replied to Pete M's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Didn't realize you could select more than one. I also have a unknown mileage engine swap truck. -
Replacement Leaf Spring Bushings
Dzimm replied to Dzimm's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I would have never imagined a new truck's springs would be so close in size so it never crossed my mind but it's good to know. As far as bushings, I know they are going to suck to replace but I've already got the rears so I'm only buying fronts at $8 each and I'm not on any sort of time crunch. $16 for some bushings vs a couple hundred for new springs is a huge difference. I definitely could have used better or newer than old XJ springs but I knew it would work and cost is a huge factor in this build as I'm trying to do it as cheap as possible. I got a used set of 3.5" lift coils to cut down as well so I will only be in the springs front and rear just under $150. If it doesn't work, I'll try something else (probably those Nissan springs you talk about) but for the price I had to at least try. That's really all this build is about is seeing how cheaply I can do it. I'd be interested in seeing the spring rate and body roll info you have. I don't know a ton about it but I do know stiffer springs are going to reduce body roll and help with cornering. -
Replacement Leaf Spring Bushings
Dzimm replied to Dzimm's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
What are the chances the XJ rear bushing is the same size? I just realized my XJ shackles kit I've had forever has bushings in it. Edit: rock Auto shows the same part number for a 98XJ and a 92MJ so I've only got to buy the front ones! -
Replacement Leaf Spring Bushings
Dzimm replied to Dzimm's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It appears these only come in poly so that's not going to work. Rock Auto has regular rubber ones for a good price. I'll get these on order. Thanks! -
So I'm looking at the options for replacement leaf spring bushings and I keep seeing these Energy suspension kits for considerably cheaper than buying the individual bushings. Does anyone know anything about them? I can't find much info other than people saying they fit.
-
Went on a road trip today and picked up XJ leaves (thanks for finding these Pete!). They aren't in the best shape but were cheap and will work. The yard didn't even attempt to remove the bolts, just torched the mounts off the XJ lol. I will be getting the packs separated and cleaned up soon.
-
That completely depends on how old the lift is, what brand it is, and what kind of shape it's in overall. I have a 4.5" Rusty's lift that I'm happy with. It's gets a little bouncy on the highway at speed due to the stiffer springs and the uneven pavement (feels like mini dirt track whoops on really uneven pavement) but it's very minor and as expected from stiffer springs. Problems you have right off the bat, the rear leaves won't work on the MJ as the XJ leaves are too short. Rear shocks will also be different. You also shouldn't need the tcase drop since the MJ is longer. At most you'll need axle shims. Good news is that everything up front will transfer over.

Welcome! After seeing the truck reveal I wondered if you guys would find the club. Great looking truck and can't wait to see what you do with it.

Is the roof rack included?? Unless that thing is 30' across that's a rediculous price. Pete, you should start packaging tarps, poles and zipties. Add a CC logo to the tarp and sell them as a budget rooftop canopy.

Exhaust manifold suggestions
Dzimm replied to Tamadrummer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
No, the O2 sensor is below the manifold on mine. Probably changed for HO as it seems the Renix manifolds have the bung on them. -
Exhaust manifold suggestions
Dzimm replied to Tamadrummer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes that is the style I have. Amazon has them for $70, I got mine as open box for like $60. Same exact manifold just different vendor. That extra pipe on the manifold in your picture is a preheater tube for the Renix models I believe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. -
They pop up in the classifieds here occasionally. Sometimes eBay or Craigslist. That's about the only places you'll find them aside from getting extremely lucky at a junkyard.

I'd love the M-715 before it became the "5 quarter". I wouldn't mind taking home any of the last three. Give it 30 years and I'll be able to afford them.
-
Never seen that stripe before. Likely a dealer specific option. The vast majority of stripes on these trucks were dealer stripes, not Chrysler stripes so it will be hard to track down if not impossible.
