It looks like you could potentially pull that axle bolt out but is there enough clearance to pull it out completely on the left side? Would it be possible to weld it without taking the assembly out at all or is it too tight?

Yeah I would have loved to see it in person. It was on absolutely everything, they had like 10hrs straight of freezing rain.

Yes Matt has some interesting content. They are kind of Corvair aficionados. They have tons of Corvair parts and full Corvairs in their yard. Some videos show this better than others. They are currently building a Corvair to be a replacement for the yellow XJ. Sifting through the Corvair build videos may lead to some answers on your question. I feel like I've even heard him mention the hood louvers in one of the XJ modification videos. IIRC it was one where they were putting a bigger trackbar in or something with the front end.

Looks like you've got 98 on both lists, I'm assuming that should be 99 in the missing section. Honestly 19% isn't terribly bad for a 30 year old special edition truck. I'm guessing there is probably only about another 15-20 trucks still out there we don't know about, the rest unfortunately are lost forever. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I would also agree that XJ is definitely mostly gray. I've personally seen more tan than gray MJs but both are pretty darn common. I'm wondering if we see more of the other colors in MJs because there are so much fewer of them than XJs so it's more likely we will see the less common colors. Statistically we would see more of the uncommon colors when there are less total to see. Just a theory, no way to know for sure what the actual distribution numbers were.

In Iowa I've never had the DMV ask for any proof of insurance for anything, I'm guessing it would be the same for you. I believe all 50 states require insurance by law so if you drive it make sure it's at least got liability. Make sure to at least meet your states minimum coverage as well. As stated, just take the title to the DMV and ask for registration. If it's not printed in your name yet, make sure it's filled out correctly but they should be able to help you with any questions.

89 MJ is correct, just easier to differentiate the trucks that way. The 97+ swap is something you have to do yourself or buy a truck that it's already been done to.

This would be ideal but the startup cost is too high for me personally and I presume for most of us here.

Yeah that's one of the big reasons I'm reluctant personally with the JL/JT style lights is that they stick out so far. I have been putting more thought into the tail lights and wonder if they would work being at a slight angle even? I wish I had the money to buy a bunch of lights to do a bunch of testing and making adapters for all kind of different light options.

I'm running the Rusty's kit on my 97+ MJ. It's got everything you need included in the kit. I upgraded the shocks the brushed aluminum ones with orange caps, RX200 in the drop down maybe? I also got the standard steering stabilizer with mine as my stock one was shot. You won't need the T-case drop spacers so just put those on the shelf but youll need to use the shims to correct the angle. The only thing I noticed that this kit could do better is have longer or adjustable lower control arms as once installed the included ones pull the front axle backwards just enough to be noticable, it doesn't affect the ride quality or cause major issues, it's a visual thing. If you run massive tires I suppose it could cause some rubbing. It's an overall great kit to get you started for sure. I would also recommend you look at swapping your rear axle if you are still running the D35 as it doesn't have the best reputation with larger tires. The "Axle type" drop down for this lift kit is only referencing the u-bolts size so don't worry about being locked into an axle with this kit. If you swap axles later you just need to order different size U-bolts.

You haven't experienced a rust belt Jeep have you? When there is no metal left the carpet decides to start rusting away as well.

I can definitely understand that for sure, unfortunately they wouldn't do that. Really the student loan issue or "bubble" is the education system's own fault from my point of view. I can't speak for everyone's experience but with my generation we got pushed so hard that college was the only answer to having a life. Basically saying you will live under a bridge if you don't go. They even required us to have meetings with the counselor to help setup our college plans, which included exclusively 4 year schools because "community colleges are a waste of time and money and you can't do anything with those degrees" obviously knowing nothing about college at the time you trust what you hear. I was lucky and the government wouldn't give me a loan for the second year at Iowa State because I didn't have an income. They would happily give my parents a loan to pay for my school but they weren't about that so I dropped out and got a real job. Make just as much now as I would had I finished school and I'm in the field I went for anyway. Sorry I just get really frustrated with how the schools don't teach people real life skills and really just set people up for failure when they get into the real world... RANT OVER.

Both of ours are going to paying existing bills. Although I've got a good chunk saved to hopefully buy myself a nice new welder and doing some work on the shop. I'm really hoping somehow someone passes the student loan forgiveness thing and we end up with no student loans. It's been quite nice not having to pay on those this year, allowed us to catch up on other stuff. Starting out 2021 with our very own medial insurance so already losing my student loan payment to that... Man being an adult is expensive.

I believe the 97+ XJ light is too tall for the opening. I recall seeing someone had to cut the bedside to get a 97 tail to fit, which isn't ideal.

XJ could work, if the 97+ XJ lenses fit without cutting that would be ideal since they are rounded. I believe the older XJ ones fit within the cutout but that 90* corner is kind of a bummer. May look fine though if it's not sticking out past the body. I should pick up a set of Dakota tail lights and see just how far off they are. Those are still available on the aftermarket and are fairly cheap. Maybe I could make an adapter to fit those.

At first I thought you were over exaggerating a bit but the first picture I saw was this.... I'm happy to see and support others that are recreating things for the MJ but I would recommend steering clear of this one unfortunately..

I wouldn't be opposed to doing some sort of tail light adapter for the MJ. I am not sure though if my printer is large enough, would be a real tight fit. If I did it, I would probably design it to fit something other than a Wrangler tail light, would use something that looked more like it belonged on the MJ. Unless there is that much demand for Wrangler lights. Isn't there somewhere that sells just the MJ lenses? Maybe I could make a reproduction back to fit those lenses?
