I'd definitely consider it. Either way, it will hold its value better than the Accord, tranny issues or not so it would be a trade in your favor IMO assuming everything checks out okay on it.

There is no way they have $22k in this truck, maybe they paid a shop to do all the work or waaayyyy overpaid for the MJ and XJ they started with. I've got around $5k-$6k in mine and have done quite a few expensive 'extras' to it that aren't done to this truck. Even adding new tires and fresh bed liner in the bed, I'd be at like $7k-$8k and have a very similar looking truck.

Will the Aries 1043 Brush Guard fit on an 89 Manche?
Dzimm replied to BoxoKnox's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The only things I can think of would be factory fog lights or those black protrusions on the front of the bumper, either way those could easily be removed and there are holes on this guard to mount lights so the fogs could have gone there. Sounds good! -
Will the Aries 1043 Brush Guard fit on an 89 Manche?
Dzimm replied to BoxoKnox's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Looks like it mounts to the same spot as the bumper in which case, it should bolt right up to the MJ. I find most autoparts stores have no idea what fits what, especially between MJs and XJs, I agree with BeatCJ, I'm guessing they just didn't test with an MJ or have no idea how similar they are. You should have no issue fitting that to your truck. The limited XJ may have had another accessory on the front that caused it not to work. -

Wow you have brass cased ammo on the shelves!?!? I got lucky at Bass Pro a few weeks ago, I walked up to the ammo as the lady was stocking 9mm. Within two minutes the shelf was empty again. All the brass is now completely gone (even the weird/uncommon calibers) and we are down to only 7-1/2, 8, and 9 shot shells. No game loads anymore. Even fishing leads have been unobtainable, I assume to people casting their own bullets. I'm really hurting on my supply, am about to go use up the last box of game loads I've got on some pheasant today and have very little brass left. For black friday we bought a RuffLand kennel for the van. My wife does dog sports with our three dogs and does a ton of driving so we wanted to get something safer for the dogs than the wire cages. These kennels are super expensive so I told her we can get one now and have to buy them one at a time. I secretly bought 3 of them so she will be getting her Christmas present early!

Does it count if I just go put a Little Tree car freshener in it? We don't even have a tree for the house yet lol.

Good info here, thanks! I may message you when I get to my clock project to tap into your knowledge a little deeper.

After doing extensive sheet metal work on these trucks, I'd recommend just using body filler on it over cutting and replacing. As mentioned the metal is super thin and VERY easy to blow through. Regardless you will have to use body filler to cleanup the welds so might as well skip that entirely as long as there is no structural damage associated with those dents. You may actually make the B-pillar weaker by cutting and replacing that piece as well if you can't get good welds on the entire perimeter of the patch. Something to consider.

I loved the 2dr! It was definitely a pain if someone needed to get in the backseat but I rarely had anyone back there. Was great having the bigger doors and the cab just felt more spacious than the 4dr.

I grew up with my dad owning older vehicles, specifically a Toyota pickup, Bronco, F-150, then finally buying a 98 2dr XJ from his dad/my gpa. I then drove that XJ in highschool and eventually bought it from him (sold it to buy my red truck, wish I still had it). I loved it and just started to get into Jeeps. I couldn't afford a Wrangler or anything else so I decided to stick to the XJ platform. I eventually found out about the MJ, likely from CC while looking for info on something XJ related. Quickly decided I wanted to do a 97+ swap MJ and a few years later I was able to make that happen. The rest has been documented here for the most part. There are too many things I like about the XJ/MJ platform to list here but the more I learn, the more I love it and I don't see myself not owning an MJ or XJ for a long time. I wish I could afford more because there are so many builds I want to do with them, I'll just never get to in my lifetime.

Oil pressure fluctuations, mechanical gauge
Dzimm replied to Cheapamanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Have you ever run a synthetic oil in it? Strait synthetic will cause your leaks to be worse due to them being thinner and easier flowing. -
I would absolutely take it off your hands!

I know how full you can pack a trailer Pete, I'm sure you could have made the bed fit on that rack. good score, wish they had MJs in yards around here. I want to make a tailgate bench!

That's just crazy to me. What's it cost to maintain a dealer license? can't imagine it's cheap. Pretty dang cool tho!

I built a chain link fence... Twice. Little different than wood but similar concept. I'd recommend you rent the auger unless you really think you'll need it later. I got mine from Ace hardware for somewhere around $40/day and had the holes done in about 2 hours. Also HIGHLY recommend you rent a small cement mixer. Rental place in Des Moines had one for iirc $25/day and holy crap was it a huge time saver. Had the whole fence built in 2 days, would have been 1 day if the cement would dry faster. And after the Derecho came through and flattened 150ft of the fence, I had to rebuild. I pulled the concreted posts out and reused the holes. Its totally up to you if you want to pull the existing posts but it's actually pretty easy to do using stuff you probably have laying around. Make a lever using 2x4, 2x6, 2 bolts, and a length of chain. Dig a few inches around the concrete and wrap the chain around the concrete, then push the lever down and out it comes. Here is the one I made. Used lumber I had laying around, about 10ft of lever arm is plenty to pull the post.

You guys aren't the only ones. Had some LED headlights for about a week thinking they would be better, they sucked and definitely looked weird. Those stupid ebay crazy taillight housings look dumb too. Don't get me started on the new trucks with tall fancy wheels and skinny tires...

Yes comes with the bulbs. Its a straight plug in and go setup.

I've got the Rampage H4 kit in 2 of my Jeeps. So much better than the stock halogens. Relatively cheap too.

I don't think it would be an issue. I'm pretty sure there are separate sensors for the computer and the gauges. No reason for the gauge cluster to send any signals to the computer. My 98 XJ gauge cluster would sometimes jostle loose or somehow lose connection and the gauges would completely quit working while driving. Didn't seem to affect anything.

Great catch, definitely correct be careful with those lines.

Driving on the street to street truck
Dzimm replied to 70barracuda's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
Does that 8.8 have an LSD in it?? Now that you have some seat time with the V8 how's it drive with that much power? I've always been curious what it'd feel like. -
Awesome, good to hear you got it in place!

I had the same issue installing mine. It's best to have a helper. Leave the spring and control arm off on one side while installing the other. Then for the other side, it's a wrestling match or jacking the axle up and down and prying on stuff. You have the right idea of ratchet strapping to something, just be careful not to pull the truck off the jack stands. Once it's in, your axle will sit slightly further back in the wheel well.

Both bought and remain in central Iowa. Bought in Sep 2016 - 1990 Eliminator 4.0 4X4 rusty floors and rear wheel wells, no rust anywhere else. Couple small dents. Had a bad spray paint job over factory paint. Was stripped down to a roller with a mostly complete engine in it, trans/tcase delivered separately. Came with almost all the parts for a 97+ swap crammed in the cab and bed. Prior salvage title. Bought and delivered to my house for $1,000. Bought in Aug 2018 - 1992 Sportruck 4.0 AX15 2WD. PO had replaced floors, had rusted out bedsides and cab corners, faded paint, faded trim, and cracked windshield. Otherwise was in good shape. Clean title. Paid $1,300. Currently I'd value both in the $6k-$8k range in the local market.
